It sounds like you are too much in a hury. I spend most of my early time researching - first the research acadamies, then Xeno econ and industry, then planet defenses, and last of all weapons tech. Once you get the research up to par the weapons tech goees really fast. And by then I have money rolling in and industry that can crank out huge ships very fast. In fact, I usuallky wait until war is declard on me before I even start to desig

I just replaced my mouse wth a Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse. Nice mouse, but I lost the rotating function of the right mouse button. I can reassign any button except for number 1 and 2, and I figure the second mouse button's default function works to rotate in GalCiv. So, why did mine stop working? The zoom functions work fine, as does scrolling, just not the rotate. Never mind - it's working now.

The most powerfull tool in the Neutral arsenal is the Neutrality Learning Center. Plop down a couple dozen of those and you will research the Doom Ray (and defenses like Zero Point Armor) in no time. They are cheaper than the other research facilities, and they give a higher return - 22 vs. 18-20.

9. Same issue for the Neutrality Learning Center and the Research Academy (for example), though this is a bit of a different case. However, shouldn't the latter automatically upgrade to the former? Nope. The NLC is a completely different line of tech. It is a class by itself. That is why both lines are still present to build after it is researched. The Research Acadamies will upgrade to the Invention Matrix then to t

My way is this. I build no military - period. I research. And as soon as I can I get Xeno Ethics so I can align with Neutrality, then research the Neutrality Learning Centers in the Research branch. Those give the highest research return, and soon I have the most powerful weapons and defenses. As they are building ships, which usually only have one type of weapon, I research the defense for their weapons and my own weapons that they are not d

I just got a new video card - an eVGA GeForce 6800 GS CO SE, 256MB - a few days ago. I also just got Galactic Civilizations II a few days ago as well. Cool game. I'll probably spend as much time on it as I spent on SimCity over the years. Well, the game would crash after playing for 10-15 minutes. Not a BSOD which might tell me something;; but the video would turn into several columns of greenish yellow lines - totally locking the c
