Population, population, population. All they are good for is taxes. If you can get a 100% approval rate for a few turns, you will see your pop grow extremely fast. Any money you lose by lowering your tax rate will eventually be restored when your pop gets back up. Be careful during your initial rush. Sure you want all the planets you see on the map, but it just is not going to happen. (Unless it is a small map with uncommon or less colonizable planets.) Most colony ships in the beg

I have read enough gaming magazines to know that waiting is a good idea. Too many games are rushed to be out before Christmas and the ratings go down because the software is downright buggy. Stardock has a good thing going here. If you really need the game before Christmas, do a Pre-Order. I believe it will keep the gamer satisfied long enough for before the final comes out. It may have a few bugs but that is why it is labeled as a beta. For those people that don't want to pre-order, Dark
Hmmm, it seems to me that researching miniturization "enhances" the hulls quite a bit.
I usually try to check the "Military" tab now and then in the early game. If I start to see the other races graph lines start to go up, it is time to start researching more weapons, defense, and hull techs. If you are waiting until you can build medium hulls, you are waiting far too long. If you wait that long, you will be preceived as weak and will most likely be attacked soon. The cheap and easy way to make it look like you are more powerful than you really are is to build a bunch of defen
I love the classics. And if you want to go waaayyyy back, I picked up the Zork collection a few years ago. (Re-released sometime around 1994.) I remember playing that on my parents Apple IIe. Ahh, I miss the monochrome green screen. I still have the re-release and pop it in sometimes. Great text adventure game. West of house There is a Mailbox Here >_ (And if I recall, it is all open sourced now so you can probably download it from abandonware.)
Here are some problems that I see when you make this game MP. 1. If you play on anything larger than a Medium sized map, you will be waiting forever for your turn while other players take their turns. (CIV III and IV did a pretty good job overcoming this.) Next time you get to mid-game or end-game, time yourself and see how long it takes to complete 1 turn. Now multiply that by 2 or more players. There is a lot of down time until your turn comes back around. 2. What is go
I don't think that this game requires it to be multiplayer to be fun. I have been playing for a while now and reading the posts. I find it especially amusing when I read a post from another player about how well the AI reacts to different strategies. Sure, the AI will never replace a human, but it can come reeaallll close.
Another possiblility is try a file sharing server like fileshack.com. I usually go there when I want to play an old game that I need a patch for and the company has gone out of business. Usually, I can find all the versions that were created on that site. Just a suggestion you might want to try.
Ahh, my error finally got fixed in 1.3. I love it when I'm right! Oh wait, let me quote the fix from the fix log. I am all smiles! + fixed first turn after load zero production behavior!
Oh and don't forget, until we get into Season 10, (Starts soon right?) the Ori ships can't be defeated.
Short Answer: No.
If I recall, Dune: Battle for Arrakis on Sega Genesis did pretty well. I was hooked on it for hours. I think they had Civilization (one of them) for Playstation once. It did not do well at all. I just remember seeing an advert for it once. I think turn based strategy is a PC only genre.
Here are some screenshots.
Hmmm, that was a lot of help. Thanks
If someone would tell me how to do a screenshot and find the corresponding file on my computer, I will be happy to post what I have found.

Ok, I am usually very careful when using the word "bug." It seems that anytime anything goes wrong, it is a "bug." Well, I think I may have found a real one. If you take a look at the industry chart at anytime in the game, you can see your civ's industry go up (or down). Whenever you save a game (I use quicksave), and reload, you get a big negative spike in the chart for one turn. After that, the chart goes back to normal. Basically, I can use this spike to let me know just how long I hav
Take a look at the Wiki site. There is a long list of hotkeys. Print it out if you feel it necessary. Link
Great job Stardock! Going back to a previous poll, I first saw the game in a Best Buy. It looked interesting so I picked up the box. Read the cover and put it back down. At this point I started recalling bad memories of other 4X Games. (Civ: Call To Power ) I still suffer from a slight twitch in my side for buying that one. I played it exactly once. The other thought was...Stardock?
For more SC 2 fun download the open source code at this site. It got me addicted again. Oh, and by the way, it's tweaked to run on modern computers. Link It is a good website and includes other fan sites.
Dang! And I could have been the first to report it if I wasn't lazy! I saw this a while ago. It was so obvious to me, I thought the devs would have caught it already. (I'll get the next one)
Ahhh, I guess I just did not get that far yet.
I am curious as about the first couple of scenarios in the Campaign. I know that the tech tree is somewhat streamlined in the beginning. How come, when my espionage says my enemy has Laser I, II, III etc., the only defense I am allowed to research is Armor? Wouldn't shields be the more logical choice? I'm not a dev or a modder. I just play because it is fun. This just does not make sense to me. I am guessing there is a perfectly logical explanation for this.
Yeah, I could go in and mod it myself but I'll let the devs take care of it. I'm too lazy. I hear 1.1 will be out this week anyway. (How many betas have we gone through? I lost count. Heheh)
De-commissioning the starports is something we need to get back. The AI is notorious for building them on PQ 3 and 4 planets. I don't want them there. I would rather have something that generates some bc or tp in that spot. Not something that will take 50+ turns to build a scout. I am anxiously awaiting 1.1 to see what happens. Right now in the 4b version, they are permanent no matter what. It is there to stay.
