I am beginning to doubt the value of the colony rush in the recent betas. having played just about every 4x game since the original civ this came as quite a surprise. I won a game yesterday, masochist lvl, huge map i think and I started the game stuck in the top corner with only 2 systems next to me. I didnt go out of that corner till well into the game. Maybe it just was an unusually nice place to be, I built 6 economy starbases which were able to boost prod and research for AL

yeah, it happened today. I had heard of this but this was the 1st time I saw it (1.1 beta4) I suspect it might be something to do with that resoultion that grants freighters a defence bonus.

I usually wait a very long time to even research Xeno Ethics, feels kinda like cheating to research it when all the AI:s completly ignore it. I am pretty sure I saw an AI build the temple of righteousness once recently. And the 100% is still in as far as 1.1 beta 4

On higher difficulty levels it seems impossible to get ahead or even keep pace on military power until the game is virtully won, except in real terms when your well designed and placed ships beat the crap out of far larger numbers. Those early ships just dont do the trick anymore. I did however in one game on the 1.0 leap ahead as soon as I started out building small defenders. Unfortunatly it was a bug, what I designed was 2 attack small shi

It is wonderful to have 9 to 12 planets all getting boosted by 4 or more starbases. Just make sure you keep your population high to pay for all that discounted extra production and research. It works for military bases too btw, but these are way less effective and too damn costly in the latest beta (unless you are evil)

I wonder if it is one of the many in game jokes, a "political" building whose name is actually an outright lie. I guess we will find out the spin control centre is a lie too soon

In higher levels of difficulty swaping weapons can be essential. For instance to take out the enemy dreadnaught with 110 shields. My 120 beam dreadnaughst had problems with this but the missile crusiers I developed took them out a treat. Yup, it is easy to wiz along trough half a weapon tech tree late game. Jus make sure it is the last half and not the crappy end <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" bo

Just to add to the chorus... My experience in multiplayer has also been bad especially for games that take a lot of time. It is so hard to avoid timewasters and impossible to align time with freinds to play - even on my LAN. I used to run a clan for star wars rebellion, but when you get some really good players, the game gets cheesy with nasty tactics. Having said that, I do own an internet cafe and a lot of customers spend ages playin

A game where my flagship never found a single anonoly ( and this was on abundant), how unlucky can you get? 1.1 beta 4 on struggling ( I fancied a holiday from masochistic)

sometimes you just need to sell tech for cash until your population grows enough to pay a lot of taxes in the early game. Do not forget you can alter your government (at the start) to gain more cash. But when it really come to the crunch - you need lots of people to tax. Build farms, build morale to keep the plebs happy. I know they do not enduce orgasms like your 10th manufacturing center but they pay for the others. stock exchanges

i think if you get a planet like that you should not only save the game but back up to cd too. You never know when (real) life will deal you a dicky hand and you will need cheering up some day

Conquest victory is by destroying all "major" civs. The minors do not count. Trust me I saw it in a game as drengi domination. I once saw the snathi take about 6 planets off the torians btw

Also, population has nothing to do with your manufacturing or research power. Population only increases your income (taxes) and influence. The Manufacturing and Research are derived directly from the factories and labs you have I would dissagree with you there as production and research both need payi

I am playing on masochist level - my 3rd game at this levle - won one lost one. Phew it is hard. Scary as hell when you see dreadnoughts with 100+ defence and attack, worse when you actually take them sown and count your own dead. What I cannot understand is how my neighbours got so great at tech, research and industry. The whole game I have been the weakest in all 3, yet when I look at... a: their planets - all crap 1 factor

well what else can I do? Maxed out on influence tech, maxed out on all influence starbases (both types) got all the fruity achievements, the map was ALL red and still very few defections. I think in high lvl dificulty games influence cannot be relied upon.

I just finished my 2nd game on masochistic level (dengrin domination). Wow what an experience after my 1st when the torians took me to the cleaners via influence. I beat everyone one at a time but had a huge bit of luck early game when the torians who were at war with someone else surrendered to me (oh how I laughed). Strange thing was after all these "I won influence victory in 10 minutes" posts was how little gain I ever got from influence.

I think my best one was planning an advance into enemy territory against ships that really outclassed me. I intended to build a whacking great military starbase to give me the edge with a huge stack of constructors i had, but I messed up the order in which I moved ships and was not able to build the base in the safety of the same square as my largest fleet.

As I read the description, when I have a high influence on another races planet and it gets the skull & crossbones then it should flip PDQ when I built this. Doesnt seem to be the case as I have had about 20 "enemy" worlds with the red icon in my territory for over 100 turns and they still are not flipping (ok some did) What is other peoples experience with this?

Another thing about econ starbases is that they are cumulative. I have several planets in my current game that are enhanced by 4 bases. Thats a lot of plus, and you only pay 50% of the extra production cost as I recall

I got raped on masochist level with the latest beta in one game (culture defeat by torians)then really kicked ass on the next game. The AI put up some nasty fleets which inconvienienced me but what I saw most recenly from the latest beta was the ai making crap planets. To much food, no moral or tons of moral and no food.

Moo4? hey you are playing it now - it is just called galciv2 moo2 was the best space strat game for 11 years. quite an achievemnet. I do miss some things from it tho: leaders capturing ships guarded special planets fighting my own tactical combat to name a few. I guess we may see some of these in ex

I'm finding it terribly easy to win Culture Victories. Pretty much all it takes is ownership of 3 maxed-out (needs the Industry tech line) Influnce Mining bases, and a maxed-out influence tech line. I won my last game (gigantic map, 7 enemies) without firing a shot. It took me about 5 total hours to go fro
