Generally I reserve my 'super-planets' to those that are PQ22+. PQ7-21 get only 1 farm with a bank thrown in (capitols get an additional morale building.) At PQ22 you have the tiles to crank up the population and build the morale buildings that are needed to keep them happy. Below that for me though its just not worth it.

Started playing Very Slow Research when 1.1 came out. Normal felt to fast. After a half dozen games at very slow, normal seems like a rush with techs appearing constantly. I suppose it also hurts that I've always tended to concentrate on tech any way. So for me, very slow is the only way to go.

Play Crippling difficulty, tech trading turned off, and tech learning set to very slow. Generally I need to set tech research to 0% to stop from winning a tech vicotry. Don't like turning it off as that would stop the AI from being able to accomplish it. Have never seen the AI even get close though. Since v1.1 patch I've been playing neutral. Staying out of wars is very easy. Only once has in 5 games has a faction declared war on me. 2 other factions declared war on them for attacking

While it varies depending on what bonus tiles the planet might have, the basic cuurently is Factory, Starport, Factory, Research, Farm, Commerce and buying the initial factory. Beyond that initial list, it varies depending on available tiles, bonuses, and what I need. I'm only on my second game since 1.1 so that might get changed but it's what I'm currently using.

While I agree, and was one of the many complaining, that it was way to easy/cheap in 1.0x to buy the starbases from the AI, I have to question the grounds of why the AI said no to the following trade: AI Offer - 1 5 module Influence Mining Starbase My Offer - 47,000 credits - 1 10 module Influnce Mining Starbase - 2 10 module Military Mining Starbase - 1 10 module Morale Mining Starbase - 1 10 module Economy Mining Starbase - 1 10 module R

Just tried it. Asking Thorians for mining starbase (Influence). Offered all my cash, 47K and got a no. Added all my ships (about 100) and still no. Threw in all my mining starbases (6 of em fully loaded) and still no. Finally decided to throw in all my planets but my capitol (23 planets) and still no. And the Thorians are at Friendly. I'm thinking its broken at the moment. While it was to cheap before, now there doesn't seem to be any price that they will sell at.

AI generally gives cash if you are powerful. Kinda like a 'please don't hurt me, see I give you money to be my friend' type of thing (Ok, I play evilly so thats what goes through my head when they are giving money.) They give ships (or starbases) if the AI thinks you are losing a war with a faction they hate.

Which to go after depends on if the starbases that the Iconians have are worthwhile. Are they economic/morale/research? Useful but probably not game winning. Influence? Very nice if you are currently having problems with planets threatening to flip to the Dregins, but if not then better than the first three but not by a lot. Military? Well, if you're looking at being out gunned by the Dregin then these would be worth gold by making a much smaller fleet

If you are getting that message and not recieving any ships, check around (or use the ship pop-up display) to see if you have any new mining starbases. The AI just loves to give me their mining starbases for some reason. Personally I find it annoying because it makes the game to easy. Bas enough I can usually buy the bases for 5-10K, but to have the AI give them to me? Oh well.

Have gotten this one 3 times. PQ increase has been 11, 9, and 8 so apparenly there is a decent size random range. In current game it I got 2 parsecs and PQ8. That meant 80 planets are now colonizable. Biggest problem I've seen is that while that AI will colonize them, it doesn't place a priority on them like it does at the beginning of the game. Therefor I generally get most of the planets. In the cuurent game that meant I got 64 of the 80 planets. Pre

Perhaps I'm missing something (very possible as I'm fairly new to the game), but how do you keep a population of 100 happy? From what I've been able to determine, unhappiness from population is farily linear. Problem is that happiness from buildings is not. Its multiplied by the percentage of happy folks you got. So if you have 100% unhappiness due to population size, the number of happiness buildings you build makes no difference, +50% morale * 0 =
