seriously? wow, thanks. i haven't even contributed in a long time... sig101: yeah that's my site. one of em anyways. how'd ya know?
Vanilla Ice
better idea. use netscape with an anonymous proxy and change it whenever i go past the limit. problem solved... i just will hafta sign up for a new account or simply not use one.
i got this message trying to d/l something: "Thank you for trying out WinCustomize.com! We hope you have enjoyed the skins, themes, and wallpapers available here. As an active user of WinCustomize.com who has downloaded over 50 megabytes of content from our site, we ask that you help support WinCustomize through the purchase of either a WinCustomize Subscription or registering a Stardock product. ya, i'll be sure to BUY themes... can't really tell by the small-ass preview, but to me looks kinda like the Simplicity visual styles.
"VI, I kind of suspect you haven't used DesktopX recentlyif you think it's heavy on resources and is convoluted. DesktopX 2 is totally different from DesktopX 1." actually, i used DX2. maybe it's just my system (doubtful) but it does run slow. and i still do not like the object properties dialog and all that. another thing i dislike is i haven't seen any good themes. i mean there's a LOT of themes, but not many are USEFUL. having a good looking theme is one thing, having a useful GUI is
I think it's a good idea. by that i mean for stardock, i don't think it's too practical. personally I stay away form DesktopX because of the devolopment/object editing environment. I just don't like it. It's too convulted (i think that's the word I want...). i find another destop replacement program much easier to create with. i won't name names tho... plus desktop x is too slow to load and heavy on resources. I've been thinking of whipping up some performance meters and whatnot in .NET
oh and as for the backlog of themes, you should never not advance something forward because it leaves old things behind. but if it was really wanted you could have an option for users to classify old themes they see, or for authors to set those themselves.
well if youur theme is too many colors to be catergorized you simply don't fill in this option or put it down as "misc" or something. but most themes have 2 main colors. in fact i could classify all my WB and VS themes like that. but either way it's more practical than a "schools" catergory.... i mean who actually uses those ridiculous catergories?...
oh and you should be able to set primary and seconday colors, cause like my cursor theme is silver with blue whereas everything else is blue with silver.
heh, yeah but i'm no artist. my themes suck....
well, i've done that before i think and usually you just come up with crap themes that people make like 10 editions of of different colors. and most of the best artists use more original names for their themes that don't include the color. in fact i don't think any theme i have includes the color in the name.
i have a suggestion. like, right now i'm using blue wallpaper so i want a blue WB theme to match it. i've got one, but i wanna see what else there is. or let's say i have a WB theme that's black and wanna find a matching CursorXP theme. i think when you submit a theme you should be able to pick the main color scheme from a list, so people could search for what they're looking for. because the "places", "people", "schools", etc catergories are pretty worthless.
the main page is wrong: "LIGHTTEK has realease Talisman Desktop 2.7 B3"
i use boot screens, just replacement kernels (applied myself with boot.ini, not some crappy program), but i have no worries of getting a virus or anything. first, i don't think there's been one case of a virus being put in a bootscreen on one of those sites, and second any file you download could be a virus... someone could just as easily make a virus screensaver or anything else you may have used. but anyways, this sounds cool. i was just thinking 5 minutes ago when i turned on my
i think rainlender is a weather thingy.
BootXP sucks. if the screen has the progress bar in another place thna usual, it won't show up correctly. you can move it to where it should be, but it doesn't get saved or something. what i do is just download them as kernels and edit the boot.ini to point to the new file. i just alternate filenames boot1.exe and boot2.exe so you can change it without going into safe mode or anything. i'm not worried about viruses or anything cause for one it'd add to the filesize and you could see the differen
well, as t says lots of sites have em, i get em form themexp.com, so i don't care if they're added here too. but with so many sites doing it, big popular sites, i don't think ms will try to stop it all. it's not worth the effort and it only makes people like xp more. but anywasy, if we all bought xp (or at least have it...) then we all have the files anyway so it's not like we're stealing files we don't already have.
hmm, thanks for the tips. maybe i'll re-install 4.0. but really with visual styles i don't have much use for WB. tho Cursor XP is a must...
i'd use windowblinds sometimes if it didn't freakin replace my skin selection in the display properties... cause i just use a dll patch to use xp visual styles (no need for that styleXP crap), but when i found one good WB theme to use and installed WB it replaced the whole list of visual styles with WB themes. how gay... so i just uninstalled it...
so can the new skinstudio convert windowblinds to msstyle?
two questions: 1. can the new skinstudio convert windowblinds to msstyle? 2. how new is that new version of skinstudio cause on object desktop the newest one i have listed is from march 18th.
anyone know if the beta is a demo version or not?
I think Talisman is awesome and had been using it for a while, but when 2.5 beta 4 came out it was really buggy so i switched to ObjectBar for now. i'm gonna hafta give 2.5 another try.
Lightteck isn't actually leeching cause they aren't linking to individual files, just the page for that theme (if my memory is right). paxx: be sure to d/l the 2.5beta instead of the 2.31 version cause if you look at the themes section, most of the new ones require 2.5.
