ISTR that there is a minimum value (as a percentage of the old value) a score can reduce to by 'aging.' I believe each month's scores are added and weighted averaged seperately, then the net score for the month takes a 5% loss per month of age, to a minimum of 10% of the original value, for computing the total Metaverse score (which is a simple sum of the adjusted monthly averages). ~SDC~
I think I remember someone saying something about the space sharks surrendering to them.
This used to happen in very early versions, but I thought they had that and the pirates surredering fixed before the corresponding release (which my memory wants to say was the GM release). ~SDC~
This was not true until AP. Although I hear of some bug fixes in AP which have not come out for GalCiv. I find that trend very disturbing, but it's too early to say that they won't be released for GalCiv as well.
As far as I know, the bug fixes in the AP beta that relate to base GalCiv will be part of CG 1.14. ~SDC~
2) When you load a game, your influence power does not reflect the power you had when you saved the game. Whole sections of the map come up as 'no overall control'. It isn't until several turns later than you regain your full influence
This is by design. The influence formula is heavily recursive and it would take to long to save an exact state. The main problem with the Death Lords is that they start just like any other minor, except with more ability bonuses and more technology researched. If you can find them quickly, or they wage a large scale invasion early on, they can be eliminated by taking their one planet quickly. OTOH, if you are forced into a waiting game, you can quickly outstrip you in power unless your survey ship is near-godly, in which case you have a time advantage, if only because there a limit to ho
Both Galciv.exe's are at version 1.0.0.1
Don't bother checking the version string Windows returns. That always reads 1.0.0.1 unless explicitly set, and GalCiv doesn't do so. That said, the differences between the two aren't obvious except on the first game setup screen, where you should have seen two extra options on the right, one of them greyed out. The working option should have been to load a custom rules file. ~SDC~
Haven't I seen something like this in a movie a few years ago?
You might be thinking of Total Recall, but that's about twelve years old. That said, Mars does have the gravity to maintain a breathable atmosphere, and there's plenty of oxygen. The problem is that it's all trapped in two places: the iron oxides in the soil, and the water in the polar ice caps. The first would take a long time to release in significant quantity. The second could be done quickly,
The 'Kyoto Protocol' was a hopeful step in the right direction. All it asked was that all nations reduce greenhouse gas emitions by 5%. The USA and Australia didn't come along for the ride because they have industrial projects (which they're banking on) scheduled over the next 30 years that will increase emissions by an estimated 12-16%. So everyone has to pay the price of thier coninued prosperity (and that of the other 30 odd nations that gave signing the protocol a miss
<br
Thanks for the responses, my game CTD evry time I click on the diplomatic screen on Minor Races, but if they are visible in the map I can click in their plantes and speak with them without CTD, why???
Question: Does using "mods" make you ineligible for the Metaverse?
Most don't, but some unusual mods do, and certain combinations of mods may cause problems that any one individually would not. As a general guide, if you're mods don't exceed the ranges in the standard files, yoú'll probably be safe. (As an added note, only PQ mods are known to be problematic. Almost all other mods in the Library are safe, and most of the PQ ones are good too. The +1%P

Originally there was intended to be a system where, if your treasury was really large, or your income really high, you'd lose money to graft (governors not reporting all taxes, government officials tapping the treasury for pet projects, and such). Crime was intended to offset that effect slightly. I don't know if either part of this is actually implimented. ~SDC~
(Top - Richard Rahl) anyone know how to shut off the annoying graphics that appear between race selection screen and starting the game?
Delete or rename the BNK files in the GalCiv root and gfx directories with the word 'intro' in the name. That should remove the opening videos and the start of game video. The others will be unaffected. (And incidentally, I used to use the name Nathan Rahl in a MUD, and later, when I became an admin, Drefan Rahl. We also

DDHelp is part of DirectX. Most crashes there are driver issues. Check for newer version of your sound and video card drivers, and for newer versions of DirectX. Other drivers or system components could be causing conflicts with GalCiv or the video/sound/DirectX drivers, as well, so upgrading everything else you can without expense may be a good idea for a Step 2, if the first suggestion fails. ~SDC~

The minors will only spread so much unless someone give them more planets. Just colonize everything else and you should beable to simply overwhelm the minor later. The only minor races that are really trouble except under the most unusual circumstances are the Dark Arnor, Dreginol, Calor, Venge, and the I-League. ~SDC~
