The vast majority of my female friends are gamers, actually, so I have a hard time identifying with the sentiment that female gamers are rare. In certain genres? Perhaps. Not in general, though. As for Halo 3: holy shit, that game is awesome. 8 vs 8 on Sandtrap is a hoot.

I'd love it if it were as simple as changing an XML file... alas.
I imagine the quick building is more about quickly aquiring and retrofitting an existing property. Private factories get augumented into large public ones, a mercenary ship is bought and brought up to spec....
Metroid is a great example of what it can be for single player games, actually. That game is GOOD.
Actually, missile weapon defenses are generally cheaper to construct and research than other weapon defenses. If the AI's aren't fielding them, it's because the opponent they're most worried about is probably wielding lasers and guns.
There are specific game scenarios you can start that have a constant war (Drengin-human wars, I believe, is one of them). As for the game not being warlike enough... well, playing on Normal is going to cut that down a bit. The AIs have significant economic penalties at that level and aren't running their best algorithms. However, I find that up to a certain point in the game, everyone's attention is mostly focused inwards. Colonization, infrastructure, having enough people for a healthy
I don't think the wait is going to hurt brawl's popularity at all. With the announcement of Sonic as a playable character, it set the intertubes aflame. I'm really hoping that the third party offerings will start picking up in the next year or so. Publishers have HAD a year to see how popular the system is. I believe that the new Crystal Chronicles game is due for 2008?
I imagine that it would, since it would be producing production units. Also, you can buy or steal entertainment related techs, if I understand correctly.
If I remember correctly, the Altarians are going to be built along the lines of high research costs with large payoffs...
Ouch. I guess it's a bit much to hope for, then, given all the other stuff that's likely to have everyone's attention...
I recall that he was playing around with animated hulls, and got those working. He WANTED to do stuff with animated components, but that would require code changes to work.
Wow these are some great Ideas. So why dosn't anyone make a mod to make these changes? this dosn't look like it would be a difficult thing to do. Not moddable, unfortunately. As for reputation hits for raiding freighters... I don't see why it would. You'd be at war with the civ anyways, after all.
Don't confuse an antimatter weapon with a "total conversion" weapon. An antimatter weapon combines a small amount of antimatter with matter for a nice big exothermic reaction (A gram of the stuff with a gram og matter will give the same yield as a 43 kiloton nuclear bomb), while a conversion weapon turns the target itself into energy (which promises an absolutely absurd blast). I don't think any weapon in Gal Civ actually converts the target to energy, except for the doom ray, which does it piec
It's asking a bit much, but I'd love to see the battle system become moddable. Me, I'd just love to see the effects of random targeting and a round cutoff on the current battle system. All ships getting hammered at once, with the possibility of both fleets limping away afterwards!
Here's a thought: After fleet battles, there's a chance of the site of the battle having a new anomaly. Basically, you can initiate salvage operations with a survey modules, and get some of that cash back. Not nearly the values of the ships destroyed, certainly, but enough to make survey enabled ships an important addition to a war machine.
I was watching titan a.e last night and I was thinking if you guys are going to have terror stars for evil civs why not make a tech that creates a ship that can change dead planets into high pq planets for good civs like the titan in the movie. Terror stars are for everyone. Idealism always takes a back seat when mutually assured destruction is on the table!
I was under the impression that the AI was built not to require hard coding where possible, so they'd evaluate the building based on its stats. Not sure, though.
Hmm... I'm kinda curious how this will work for other races. I mean, I can easily see uses for this kind of device in interrogation and such, but the research bonus seems to be a Drengin/Korath biological'ish thing. Hmm... Who says that you can't use Drengin researchers after you conquer?
Not so. I've seen the Korath put them on their warships in the game I'm playing. They were wiped out, but it's an interesting way to make use of it.
Okay. This completely seals the deal. I'm preordering to get in on the beta.
Not to my knowledge. Large ships barely look bigger than medium hulls. Medium hulls barely beat small hulls for size, etc.
Interesting. I wish i knew more about codeing so i can mod this game. Hint: coding knowledge is irrelevant. Galactic Civilisations is not particularily moddable. You can tweak values in the XML files, you can replace sound and art.... and that's about it.
2 defense? That's useless. All you need is a basic Mk 1 Railgun, and this way, each Tiny would cost only 41 MP. There are not enough defense-assist starbase modules available to protect the tiny swarms from self-destruction at the hands of larger, more conventional ships, so both the swarm and the normal fleet will destroy each other. But the swarm will still win, due to the tie rule. A maximum-tech all-attack Dreadnought fleet will only be packing an attack rating of
I presume that the beta is open to those who haven't preordered yet? I'll be buying it online anyways, but it'd be nice to know.
Yeah, I do not like the individual ship proportions at all. I've had instances of battleships being smaller than enemy frigates, which really takes the fun out of crushing their fleets with my bigger ships. The idea of having the larger ships move slower is a good one. Even if they ultimately move at a comparable pace to the smaller ships, they need to have more inertia to feel big.
