If I recall correctly, once you get into the crazily difficult levels, they DO in fact cheat with more than just extra abilities. For example, I think they get a random chance to "guess" where a really good planet is. I dunno what else...
Starstriker1
Thanks for the info Drengin, though i'm with Starstriker1, shame the defense issue is not in there. Could we expect a fix for this soon? I'm not aware of the issue. This issue only recently popped into the bug tracker. People need to realize that posting on the forums alone doesn't garauntee we know about it. If it weren't for Kyro, it would still be unknown. When was this introduced? We h
Okay, yes, but thats something different entirely. Even on the tougher settings, the AI still operates on the same game rules, even if they do cheat.
...the AI plays by the same rules as the human does, remember? There might be a few places where the user interface limits the player where it isn't limiting the AI (like tech trading) but there shouldn't be a single reason why their income would be different from a human player. Also, I do believe I've seen this information posted by a dev way back.
Thats a disappointment. Not that I'm against fixing crashes, but my personal priority is that off type defense bug... its a bit of a game breaker for me.
I usually end up with Mars as a production world, actually... it'll eventually terraform to a high quality planet, but until then... it needs the factories to actually DO anything (especially if you want to use that later space), and while you're at it, why not just make it BETTER at what it does?
Really? I've found their development strategies to be far improved... they certainly aren't doing the boneheaded things they used to do, like putting a technology capital (or any other unmovable building) on a precursor mine...
i just finished my first evil game and the weapons set up is really bad. the phycohwatever beam is 12 damag and size 8 and costs 150. honestly this is way over powered. its realitivly low on the tech tree and in order to find a weapon that gave me more per space i had to rearch all the way to the very last weapons tech! PLUS theres a bug at the top of the tech tree. the 2 techs befor that very last one didnt give me a new weapons component even thought the tech said it
Sweet. Is there a changelog up yet? I haven't seen any in the journals.
If a trade route doesn't have anything to do with your empire, it isn't touched by trade starbases. You can't take advantage of the Yor's economic starbases when you're trying to trade with the Iconians, unless the Yor happen to be you!
The basic problem with them is thus: With fairly high off type defense bonuses, where the square root value is equal or higher than the attack value of each INDIVIDUAL WEAPON, this problem is fairly clear. Basically, the drain to the defense after each shot is applied to the NORMAL value, not the square root... the result is that the square rooted value will only degrade by tiny amounts in the course of a round of battle. Each weapon is fired individually, which is the root of the probl
Ethics are an interesting topic to explore in games. Perhaps even MORE interesting to explore in games than in real life, where the consequences are real and the decisions less clear cut and philosophical.
Well, keep in mind that planets of that quality tend to take a very long time to develop unless you are rush buying the terriforming techs, redirecting a HELL of a lot of asteroids, or your have a neutral alignment in xeno ethics. In other words, these planets tend to start as an economic drain and remain that way for a long time. Yeah, the AI should grab 'em... but the additional colony maintainence could catch up to you!
Nah. The ethical choices should retain their current setup where the evil choice is beneficial... if you want to add that kind of element in, do it with uncertain mini events that are tied to those choices. For example, if you crackdown on disaffected youth, you could be planting the seeds of that planet's rebellion later on. You wouldn't have an guarantee that it would happen, but there would be a chance. Likewise, if you decided to get the warring insect races to have peace, you might get an u
Making them value defensive techs like they do military techs (IE, these are top secret and extremely valuable...) would be a nice change.
It'd be nice to have more options as far as restricting trade. Being able to block a trade route entirely to choke off a civilisation without going to war (or attacking freighters) would be another tactic that could be used to put pressure on an opponent, especially as a larger percentage of the economy is based on trade in DA. It'd have the effect of lowering relations between both of the partie's you're blocking... so you'd have to be careful that your blockade isn't making the other races hat
I'd just like the off type defense bug fixed... I'm not booting up a game again until it is, because it's currently quite crippling to the game dynamics when it comes into effect.
A different question: if you use up a stock race's bonus points, will any AIs who use that race ALSO have the selected abilities, or do the points on the stock races reset?
You can't overwrite a core ship design. You will need to change the name. Its usually not a good idea to overwrite a name anyways... just save a new design with a name like "Colony Ship M2" or something like that. You lose nothing in doing so... since you used the "upgrade" button, the planets making colony ships will automatically start making "Colony Ship M2"s.
I've had AIs that formed some pretty impressive fleets... the Arceans and their fleets of medium hulled attack ships come to mind (MAN, that was a painful war), though even they would often pair inferior ships with superior ships. Unless time is at a premium (or you have a tech advantage) thats a fair amount of your military you're giving up. If you take two military powers with equal militaries (in both ships, technologies, and loadouts), the one that puts its most powerful ships only into flee
Another thing: don't be afraid to build your own ship designs. Its entirely cosmetic except for the components you put in... the rest of it is just there for your to mess about with. One of the most awesome things about this game is how you can design your own ships and see them fly around.
I haven't messed around with the new tech trading yet, but given what I've read on the forums, additional feedback from the AI would be nice. Stuff on the lines of "We aren't giving up this technology" or "There's no way we're giving this tech to YOU" would be good. Even better, if the trade is almost acceptable, why couldn't the AI make suggestions of alternate trades it would find acceptable? A civilisation that values information sharing (like I imagine the Terrans or Korx would) wou
In what way? I was not trying to be unfair, or cast an insult. Just making an observation. Pardon my crappy wording. I just meant that it wasn't quite in line with the reality... Japan makes a ton of breakthroughs, and other nations also have the same tendency to improve on the ideas of others. Rather than a single nation that takes that role, all of us do.
Thats the Drengin super ability, where they get swarms of tiny Dominator corvettes every time they declare war. It's quite useless, to be honest... they should be getting ships that scale throughout the game, not just more of the useless ones.
I don't think the comparison is entirely fair.
