Thanks for the tips guys, I started a new game and once again one of the AI players was head and shoulders above everyone else when it came to might. Luckily I managed to survive long enough to see that the reason for their high power rating was that they had boatloads of weak troops with heaps of armies running around with 800+ strength. I remember some guy earlier talking about "glass cannons" so I designed a very heavy unit with 25 attack and 18 defence, I only managed to make two

I got this game a couple of days ago and I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I've read the manual, I've read through that dev's AAR and even watched those tutorial videos but I'm still getting caned by the AI even on the lower difficulties. So hopefully you guys don't mind me asking a few questions, Even on the easy difficulty levels, the AI always seems to have a huge income (20-30+ gilder a turn) and also has huge armies. What am I doing wrong which is making me trail so

I've had this a couple of times now and it seems completely random. When I go to attack an enemy unit in tactical my unit will line up and prepare to attack but then nothing happens. And because the attack hasn't finished yet I can't end turn or do anything. If I force my PC to go to the desktop, there's an error message and once I dismiss it the game crashes. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. I've uploaded my debug.err file <a href="http://www.2shared.com/file/SwsDRl46/debug.html

Its pretty obvious Kyro your quite new to both rational thought and the 4x Genre, so ill take a few moments out of my day to help you out. If there is anyone that does not understand how bases work, take a long look in a mirror. No 4x game has ever made static bases or planetary defences truly effective, or even moderatley effective. Galciv is no exception-got that?

Öffnen Sie Stardock Central und auch öffnen Sie den "Freies Zeug/Free Stuff" Lappen. Downloaden Sie Smart Exception und starten Sie es wenn Sie Galactic Civilisations II spielen. Hopefully my German is understandable. But I'll have to continue on in English. (A good chance to practise it) If that doesn't make any sense, then just go into Stardock Central, download Smart Exception in the "Free stuff" tab and run it whenever you play Galactic Civilisations II, and when the ga

What I'd love is if the player had the chance to try and ease tensions and avoid war somehow. It doesn't make total sense that two races that have been allies for years and friends for even longer to suddenly forget all about their historial friendship and throw all their weight into attacking their former ally. It'd be great to offer appeasement or compromise in order to calm the new leader down or even better, if it depended on the popularity of the previous leader. Maybe if their a

Can you please post your debug.err file for us to see and also try getting the program SmartException from Stardock Central. Run that and if you can reproduce the crash the Stardock team would find it helpful so it's resolved.

I love the music in this game and in particular the music in the movie when people are protesting against your cultural influence growing. I was wondering if you guys made it yourself, licensed it from somewhere or whatever. 'cause I'd love to get a full-length copy of that.

Also being neutral won't help things with the Altarians and Torians if you're trying to stay out of war with them. If you're good then the other good races will be a bit more reluctant to attack you.

think that each race should have its own background music... like the Dregien should get Raffie playing, while the Altarians should have something like G&R or Joy Division playing.... what do you think, sounds tracks for everyone??? Dregin with Raffi!!! I can imagine it now. The Dregin demand 1200 bc of tribute or they'll attack. While this is

I just found something even more curious. It seems the Sparrow crash only happens in that one particular saved game. If I start a new game using the Altarian ship style or any others, it's absolutely fine. Here's the saved game if you want to check it out yourself and see if it crashes. And yes I know I didn't build up my homeworld very well, I was feeling lazy. <a href="http://www.fi

I have a funny story for you all. I was making a ship as the Altarians to counter the Dregin scum and I couldn't think of a good name. So I gave the ship the first name that came to mind which was Sparrow. Upon completing the design and trying to save it, the game crashed. I thought that it was a bit unusual so I went back in and tried to do the exact same thing again, and it crashed once more. Initially I thought it was something to do with the ship jewellery so I changed that but still it cras

Go into the foreign relations screen and where you set the slider for espionage, there is a little check-box beneath the slider saying "Break Alliance" or something like that, just check the box and the alliance is over.

Sometimes you need the relations between you and the AI to be "close", other times you can ally when relations are at "friendly", all depends. EDIT: Oh and the other AI doesn't need the Alliance tech, you can ally with them if they don't have it just so long as your relations are high enough.

If the difficulty is below intelligent then the AI will be handicapped economically and/or strategically. When they talk about that overall difficulty slider overriding your intelligence settings, that means when you change that slider then it will adjust all the difficulties of the individual races. You can still fine-tune each race's intelligence if you want by selecting them and picking an intelligence level.

Try this, go into "My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2" and find the file called "Prefs.ini". Open that and look for the following line "SkipIntro=0", change the zero to a one and let me know if it still crashes.
