Nah, games ("bumping bricks") are for fun, most people don't mind taking their time, and "bumping bricks" really doesn't change much from 2d to 3d. I have yet to hear one 3dOS idea that didn't make working with an OS (i.e. getting to the games) more of a burden.

Because no one wants to walk their user account into the "virtual room"(aka 3d environment equivalent of a window) for gaming, nor do they want to have look "around" for where they left that doc they were working on. Is that it over there? I can't tell from "here", let me take even longer to get to doing what I want to do while I zoom in. 3d is a feature/tool, not an end in and of itself.
Definitely check the sound issue first, my 8800 was stuttering along before changing from quad channel to stereo sound. Also, what processor is your machine running? 8800's aren't exactly new tech either. You can get 9800's at newegg.com for under $100, which is cheap for a card intended for gaming.
