SWEET! Yes, this is definitely a bug, but it is minor and there is a simple workaround. I was just able to get my Social up to +200%, my miltary up to +100% and my research up to +100%. Here is the bug : Create a custom race, and don't forget to choose starting techs. Whatever bonuses your starting techs give you will be added to your race when you save it. So, if you have the three starting Diplo techs (which give a total of +20% Diplomacy), then your race will be saved wi

I feel stupid but I also feel 100% better someone finally looked at it. Yep, it was the technologies. All those bonuses are from the techs. Wanna know what threw me off though? Every time I load a custom race, it tries to give me a +20% Social and +10% Military and +10% Research bonus for free, bringing me down to -5 Racial Ability points. I makes it look like the game is trying to give "free bonuses". I bet this behavior is related to the starting techs too, since they match up.
[Edit: Okay, I've gotten rid of all the confusing stuff. Read my final post below to see the real bug. This OP was simply questioning the bonuses given from starting techs.] =$= Big J Money =$=
Well, I am downloading 1.1 as we speak. I can't wait to see what this tid-bit means, but I'll go ahead and get this thread up so we can talk about it some after we've messed with it. It looks like it could be some good news! =$= Big J Money =$=
Oh come on... you think *you're* a loser? Dude, I have stayed up until 7AM one time, and 10AM another time playing this game. Hell, it's 3:30 right now, and I am posting on the forums before I hit the sack for the night. Well, actually to read some more of the Vampire: Requiem manual before I knock out. =$=
DWellsian, read Shogun's post. I think that Notepad++ might be a good way, although I won't download it until tomorrow, since I am going to bed now. Basically what we'll need is an editor that can automatically copy and gather all the proper text when we give it the instructions. I'm hoping N++ will do that. I was browsing the files myself in Notepad, and it really does not look like the changes will be too extensive. I am also thinking that we mi
Well, what I'm saying is that there is no reason there has to be a "tech trading race mini game" attached to TBS games. How a game manages to stay away from it, I don't really care. I'll admit, I haven't played Civ4 as much as I would like yet, so maybe it's not as bad as Civ3 in that regard. And don't get me wrong, because I LOVE the Civilization series. I don't like the fact, though, that you are shooting yourself in the foot if you don't immediately trade every tech you have that others d
Sorry, I kind of disappeared for a while. Yes, I know the proper spelling of the word is "grammar". I purposely spelled it "Grammer Mod" to poke harmless fun at GalCiv2. I think my sarcasm was fairly obvious, considering the secondary title I attached to this thread. I'm a a little disappointed that the mood of the thread was set by those who weren't clever enough to catch the sarcasm, but it's my fault for staying away for so long. I was a bit hard in my OP, but I'd like to make
Case #1,280,847 against multiplayer: It looks like even a $20 expansion is too steep a price for people to pay to get multiplayer functionality. I mean, why complain that you want MP if people won't put their money where their mouth is? I'd pay $20 for MP if I had some people to play it with, but I don't, so I don't really care too much. It would be cool if TBS games had a unique brand of multiplayer where someone hosts the game on their machine and everyone is allowed to "log in"
That's just stoopid phat. =$= Big J Money =$=
~bump~ Survey modules in this game are pointless, and this wouldn't be enough of a fix, but it's a nod in the right direction. Here are the oddities in the whole system: - Anomalies give very small bonuses or nothing. (occasionally cash, which is good) - By the time you research survey, the anomalies are gone - You start the game with a survey vessel The whole design just contradicts itself and pose
Of course, like Veblen said, you don't want to run into the tech trading micro-management hell that is the Civiliation games. You know, where you need to trade all your new techs with everyone immediately, because the instant you trade a tech to someone, they turn around and trade it to everyone else if they can. It makes sense, but it makes the game unreasonably tedious. One different angle solution is to make techs less rewarding to trade. Maybe
1. I'm pretty sure all the trade goods function the same as the other bonuses, IE. they apply to your whole empire and take effect universally. I recently built Xantham, and my 11 HP light patrol craft all became 12 HP, so I take that as confirmation. =$= Big J Money =$=
I don't even want to imagine what a multiplayer game against something like that would be like. Not to drag an unrelated topic in here, but that's the first thing I thought of. =$= Big J Money =$=
Badbonez, you do know that a fleet with multiple MP can attack multiple times per round, right? That means in some cases, even if there are a few crappy ships in one spot, you can still kill them all in one swoop and they didn't even get the benefit of being in a fleet. You want a realistic explanation? Sure. They split up and ran away. They were easier to kill, but it took your fleet longer because they had to hunt them all down. More
Is there a link to some info about how exactly Inf. Starbases work? I always assumed they "fed" off of local influence sources like planets, but I guess I was wrong. Do they then add their effect to whatever is already there? =$= Big J Money =$=
Super, maybe their attack on you was justified, but the message it gave was wrong? "your agression was unjust" sounds inappropriate, but can you think of other reasons why they might have wanted to attack you, like ethics or weakness? Do you have a savegame that shows their stances to you right before they attacked? =$= Big J Money =$=
I play the game on normal, and it seems that a Diplomatic win with the humans isn't *usually* too difficult. However, there are a few aspects of my game I want to work on before I increase that difficulty slider. One thing that always bothers me is how I'm always the person with the lowest amount of votes. My population and influence are always hurting. Will this affect me at higher levels? I have not figured out how to ever win the colonization r
I know we don't get charged for the military production we don't use, but why not allow unused Miltary production Xfer to Social production? This would reduce the amount of time spent at the economic screen manning the sliders. It's already nice that the game dumps unused Social into Military, so why not have the convenience go both ways? If anything, this way seems more useful, because it's more common to have social projects present on planets whi
Very, very good journal entry. I am glad to see that Stardock has such open and honest employees. Honest companies are the only ones worth being loyal to. =$= Big J Money =$=
I read through the thread about how poor the game's textual presentation is. I'd like to one-up that statement. I think it's not only poorly written, I think it's completely uninspired/uninspiring. I can't recall right now, but I believe the description of the scout vessel is something like "I look for things; it's what I do." So, why don't some of us get together, portion out the game's text (as much as can be edited) and revamp it? I don't have the slightest clue where to star
Yes, the text in the game is spotty and unprofessional. We all notice it, and we've all already gotten over it. I think it was fair to make a post, though. This way the developers can see that it does make a difference, and it is noticeable, but we still want to play their game. No reason to hate the OP. Kalin is right too, we could mod it. I think a mod that replaces the game's text would be a great community project, myself. I actually thought of it before I saw this post. I wonder how
I was wondering why it is that the attacker always seems to have such high advantage. I did read on the wiki that they get +5 points for air superiority. Still, sometimes I'll get a good "roll" and the odds will be like 50 v. 5, even with relatively close Soldier bonuses. Is it ever possible for the defender to get better than 1:1 odds, or is their "die roll" capped? Looking at all the info I've gathered, as long as the defender has 5 more soldieri
It's possible to get infinite Racial abilities. In fact, it's IMPOSSIBLE to create a custom race without getting all these for free, even if you remove them: +4% Logistics, +10% Defense, +20% Military. More details in another thread. Link Sorry if this is an old bug, but nobody has responded yet. =$= Big J Money =$=
Okay, so don't actually use this bug purposely, or you're lame. Also, if this has been fixed, sorry, but I searched through the changelogs and did not find it. Whenever you save and then load a Custom Race, it's logistics magically goes up by +4%, it's Military production magically increases by +20%, and it's Social production raises +10%. As it stands, it's not possible to save a custom race and not get these bonuses one time. Not horrible, considering
