Actually I've had a neutral AI steal my resources during several wars. Especially minors, they always seem to have constructors handy.
Couche
I guess now would be a good time to bow out of the B.C. Space Orcas... I come to the site and there are two posts from the leader showing in "recent posts". Both are flaming. Please, it's just an online scoring system for a game. EDIT: Now I completely understand Frogboy's post about considering a forum change... multi-thread arguments like this cloud what should be a fun place to gather and discuss a fun game.
Well as for bug #1 as a metaverse anti-cheating feature... I don't see how that is a valid reason to have Bug #1. I mean, people constantly restart their games to get a good starting position, and 95% of people only submit games they win. Very few of the Metaverse scores actually reflect the skill of the player. So, my vote is to do away with the bug/feature/ whatever we want to call it.
I like bad starts, they present a challenge
@ jamester2 The devs have stated that the AI does not distinguish between huma and non-human players.
I've had a few games with it enabled. It might be just chance, but both of those games were noticably harder at tough difficulty level. WIth my P4 3.0ghz I didn't notice any change in performance on a large size map
For the German part, I don't know enough to comment. However, your bashing of the example mod is unwarranted because it is just a mod to show things that can be done to the game. It isn't meant to replace the game in any way or be serious (one of the races are hamburgers.). It's just there help show modders what can be done.
I'd like to join. I was looking for an empire to join, and I like the idea of whales flying through space with Doom-Rays. I've always suspected whales were up to something. For now my plan is to beat the game with each race at Tough level on a large map. This is my first Metaverse character. I plan to post my losses though, just so I have an honest record of my Metaverse performance. Luckily, I haven't lost a game yet <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Coo
Yeah, now that you mention it, in my last game, I was the Iconians at war with the Drengin (or however it's spelled) and just as I was moving in to launch an attack, I noticed we were at peace again even though I had not initiated peace. I assumed it was just me being absent-minded, but I guess it was this bug as well. EDIT: I can't produce a save game, but here were a few conditions that might help: -I was allied with people who were also at war with the D
The AI is a lot smarter. I have still seen a few quirks, like being a few years into a game and the Drath have yet to build any ships with weapons. I still haven't lost at Tough difficulty yet, but I definately can't move up a step to where the AI gets bonuses.
I find anything besides "large" is overwhemling. I guess I'll work my way up to the next size eventually
Nice post Frogboy To be honest, I downloaded this game from a torrent site and played it for a week or so. The two things that made me decide to buy the game were: 1) I thought it was worth giving my money to encourage a game like this 2) I saw the amazing support (patches, devs posting on boards, etc) that this game gets So basically, piracy helped make a sale
Yup. Design your own ships... the first thing I do when I core ship pops up with a new technology is to click obselete and get it out of my list. Just whack together your own ships, doesn't take long to get used to. You only need to put the functional components on, not spend 6 hours fancying it up to look like a Bird of Prey as some do
I'm sure when/if there are new parties, they would come with an expansion
I think it would be interesting to let races continue the game as long as they have a troop transport/colony ship, but it would be extremely annoying having to "mop up" enemy ships when going for a military victory
You make it seem like the event happens in every game. Just chill out, I've played ~10 full games and have enver seen this event. SO don't worry, it's rare
WIth the latest beta I've had two games where, well into the game, one of the Ais had yet to build any ships with a weapon on them. I'm not talking early game, this was about 3 years into the game. The drath had lots of ships with 5 defense on them ,but not a single ship with an attack. I marched through their 8 planet empire with one ship
everyone i know who has tried it with vista (err... 2 people) haven't had errors
My guess would be there are too many polygons at once on your screen... complex ships = more polygons than the "normal" builds. You can go into the options menu and try disabling a few things, maybe turning anti-aliasing down... More RAM will definately help game performance, although the slowdown you're experiencing might be on the video card end of things
I figure this is a hint that one of the new evil races in the expansion will be a race of scantily clad amazons
Yeah I don't think it would be worth the time... it kind of confuses me that smoe developers take the time to do such a feature when running Winamp/iTunes/etc is just as good, if not better
Does anyone know if the AI gets the bonuses that the player sets for a race? For example, if I start a game with each race and reset their abilities to 0 bonuses, will the AI receive 0 bonuses if I start a new game without setting them back to normal?
Of course some see this as a disadvantage because it means the enemy can take your planet in one attack, rather than having to spend a few turns killing each ship off seperately.
If they are militarily superior to you, I would dig in and go for the tech victory. However, be aware that while you're researching the techs for the tech victory, you won't be advancing in weapons tech as fast as they are, so their military power might rise much higher than yours. To make things fun, you should try to conquer them. Make an attack plan to hit their most important planets, and the rest should fall eventually.
Yep, problem fixed in a prompt manner, thanks Stardock, let's stop whining now mmm kay?
