The statement is true for low end missile techs, as the stinger weapons are quite large, and don't use space very efficiently. But the Stinger does 2 damage as opposed to only 1 for the other two types. So in fact it uses space more efficiently than the other two, looking at it from a damage/space ratio.

Missiles are also only useable on Large and Huge hulls, ineffective on smaller ships. Beams are effective throughout the game, on all hulls, but best used on Mediums... Rails are awesome for tiny and small ships. And where are you getting this info? I see no indication that any weapon type are better with certain hull sizes than the others. One point I hadn't really considered here. If I have two beam or gun weapons attached, to match the att

Unfortunately It doesn't sound like the devs are going to do anything about it. And how do you know that, they haven't said a word on how they feel about the new tech trading system. I think there's been enough people upset about it that they'll be willing to take a second look at it. Of course we'll have to wait until the next patch for that to happen. Sometimes it just requires a few tries in order to get things balanced out. It was definitely too eas

I just want Galciv2 dark Avatar to work good because Galciv2 performs good with no problem. Unfortunately, DA is a bit more demanding than DL was. Alot of people are commenting on it.

Yes, that just brings up the planet/colony list which was what I was talking about. The planet list does not show what type of planet it is (automatically inhabitable, aquatic, radioactive, etc.). This is particularly unhelpful for the unowned planet list. You have to click on the planet to see what kind it is. I guess they never thought about adding that info to the planet list. You should mention this in one of two threads on the go requestin

I really dislike the term "broken". Well maybe not broken, but close to it. It's certainly not balanced. I'm having to offer the same types of deals that I used to recieve from the AI pre-patch. Stardock's just taken it to the opposite extreme, and not found a good middle ground. Hopefully that will be changed in the next patch.

Those of you complaining about "different rules for humans vs AI" are misunderstanding the situation. It's not different rules for humans vs AI, it's different rules for proposing vs receiving . Well then they're freely "proposing" amongst each other and not with me. Which amounts to the same thing.

If tech trading ceased to be useful in any aspect of the game, it would be broken. And many players are finding it so, especially later in the game. You reach a point where it's pretty much pointless to even make the attempt. If I have to let go of half-a-dozen techs just to get something basic, then I'm putting myself at a serious disadvantage in the game. On the other hand the AIs seem to be trading freely amongst themselves, which in essence gives th

Some of the parts were a bit dated when I first assembled it, while others were later upgrades. So what do you think? Your video card is nothing to brag about either. If you want to stick with an ATI AGP, get yourself an X800. That's the best you can get for that format. Better yet, just replace everything and go for PCI-E. You could do with an upgrade to your CPU anyway, that's a bit underpowered too.

But it is not broken and it is not impossible. It is more subtle. If I have let go of 4-5 techs in order to just get General Life Support or better, then yes it is broken. There are good deals to be made, but they're few and far between. Most of the time you have to sell your soul in order to get anything from the AI, especially later in the game. Have you tried to trade for Trade? It's absurd! That's a tech that can actually benefit the AI if you end u

Sadly, it seems that game devs (not [just] GC devs but overal) like just better graphics, not that game can be played with any computer. (Or that a game has good playability, plot, etc.) The PC game companies are in competition with the consoles. There you have near-video quality graphics that are setting the standard. If the PC developers were to make games that can run on video cards that are hopelessly out-dated, they'd end up looking like crap and t

You should save yourself the aggravation and just go out and buy a new video card. The 5500 is bordering on an antique. GalCiv is one of the few modern games that will even let you run the game with a rig that old. It won't be long before you won't be able to play any of the new games that are coming out. You can certainly forget about titles like Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights 2.

Ah, OK, thanks, sounds like I probably need to do this, then. I was expecting something a little more like an "automatic" update to occur. No, it doesn't work that way. After you've registered the product and updated the first time, a popup window will appear showing you wah't available for updates. But it still isn't an automatic process, you'll have to tell it to proceed. BTW, you need to register your game first. You'll find the link in the botto

I have to say I have no problems with Stardock's approach to copy protection. I didn't until they started insisting that Stardock Central was required in order to get the patches. Instead of downloading a file from the public network I have access to then validating via email, I had to hand over $140 in order to get a wireless rig and tap into a network that is horrendously unreliable. It turned out to be a rather expensive game! I'm not impressed at h

Sorry MOIISKA but I think your point is moot. How did you post in this forum thread? Obviously you have a PC that IS connected to the net, just put 2 and 2 together and you'll figure it out. There's more ways than a home computer to connect to the Internet with. Every public library will allow you to post messages on forums like this, and then there's internet cafes. And some people post from work. But that doesn't mean they will allow you to insta

Hmm. I was pretty sure I have it fully patched, but maybe I don't? I thought it got updated when I first installed it, but was a little confused yesterday when I clicked on the Update button, and all it seemed to do was bring up that Stardock control panel window thingy, which didn't have anything obvious (to me) about updating or an indicator that the game did or didn't need a patch.... If you have the 1.5X patch, your game will read as 1.5X2 in the ma

I'm a new player, somewhat confused by this thread. To me, it seems like tech trading is pretty rational, with reasonable trades possible for most things, and only a few exceptions where the AI considers a particular tech to be especially vital, usually with good reason. In my current game, for example, the Drengin are the only people who have Planetary Invasion, and it seems quite reasonable that you wouldn't want to give that away carelessly. Obviously, havi

Does spy activity make the target mad at you in terms of diplomatic relations? I was thinking it might be something you'd do only during wartime (or against someone you expect to go to war with soon?) The AI will have no way of knowing who placed the spies, there's no indication as to who they belong to. The same thing happens when you get hit by spies. You have no way of knowing who placed them. Does espionage spendin

When you speak to a civilization, right below the leader's picture is a drop down menu. Change it from view screen to techs to see what they have researched. This will help you to determine which weapons tech to encourage the AI's to develop. That only tells you what techs they have in common with you, which doesn't really help much. You can pretty much tell that already just by looking at what they have available to trade.

I'm not looking for a new grapihc's card If I can aviod it, belive me this card is good for the games I use it for. You can't avoid it. That card maybe good enough for the games you have now, but anything new coming out and you probably won't be able to play it. Or at least not very well. It's pretty much reached the end of it's usefulness.

It's to be expected. Stardock Central will look at it's home database to see if your product has been registered or not. Since it can't connect to it's central computer, it has no way of verifying this, so it will act as if it's not. Besides, what's the point of even opening SDC if it's not connected to the Internet? It's sole purpose is to allow you download updates etc. If it's offline, it will do nothing at all for you.

Another one is the Spy Infiltration. All races will suddenly have spies planted all over their empires, attacking markets, factories and farms and virtually shutting down everyone's economies. You need clear them out with your own spies, but it takes quite a few. Yet another is the Jagged Knife. A band of cutthroats take possesion of up to 10 planets for each race. They start out with pretty much all the techs of all the races, but don't have any ships right away. If yuou can act quickl
