For Advent the Trade Ports in Refinery Mode do not affect adjacent grav wells, or do they? Anyway Volt_Cruelerz is right, Advent Refineries do pay off only for colonies with high allegiance, many extractors (at least 3) and with the additional research in Resource Focus and Enhanced Focus to match the alternative income of 1 cred/sec in trade mode.

One more thing about economy and colonization: I would suggest not blindly to colonize each planet in the galaxy because colonizing costs resources for extractors, infrastructure upgrades, defense and such. The more colonies you have the harder to defend. And allegiance from HW is another subject. The farther away a colony is the less effective its production of creds and resources. And therefore the longer it will take to pay off your investments. I do not remember exactly

okay I give you that one, this would most likely lead to "scout rushs only". Another idea to create a different counter to LRFs (in order to increase survival rate of LFs) could be to change the damage type of one cruiser class from anti heavy to anti light (either support or disable/repair cruisers). these cruisers deal not so much damage anyway so the damage might be more efficient vs LRFs than vs cruisers. And it would be nice to watch Hoshikos hunting down Ilums [e

Actually I think if unit A counters unit B, then unit B should not be the counter for unit A. So since LRFs are the counter for LF I see no sense in using LFs to counter LRFs. In my eyes the problem is that LRFs are massed because there is only one viable counter (fighters). And this counter is easily nullified with flags and fighters. So adding another viable counter to LRFs could lead to broader fleet compositions. I think increasing the damage of scouts from 3dps to maybe 5

Once the Marza hits level 6 it is a good advice to turn off autocast of all abilities anyway. that way the owner has it in its own hands to have enough AM in reserve when the cooldown of MB expires. I don't play online, but I am pretty sure it is only a "help me win"-button against "i don't care losing"-players [e classic];)[/e]

When I read the subject I was thinking "oh no, not another 'nerf the damn marza'- thread". But now... there is actually someone who likes the Missile Barrage just as much as I do [e digicons][/e] I like it even more then the Vasari Starbase or the Advent Ilum. So thumbs up for you and every other thread not nagging about this and that [e classic]:congrat:[/e]

1. Okay LFs get crushed by LRMs but have no real other enemy except the LRMs, right? So if: a ) the other player does not build so much LRMs or b ) I somehow manage (e.g. with fighters) to take out the enemy LRMs as fast as possible, my LFs are free to roam the well and crush enemy support cruisers and carriers Right? Wrong? That leads me to another question: How intelligent is the AI battle control? I usually don't micro battles except f

I usually play Vasari using the Space Egg as my first Cap with maxed out Nanos, lots of Kanraks and Carriers as soon as I have the research. Used flak only sparsely (until now) because my impression was that flak is not worth the money (read similar things in this forum). Okay, it takes a lot of damage before it goes boom and does a huge amount of damage vs fighter. But vs Bomber, Structures (Hangar Defense) and everything else flak is pretty much screwed. So I assumed carriers would be the w

[e digicons]k1[/e] for Raging Amish. 2) Yes I was referring to turrets. I'm only playing on LAN with friends and your proposal (bring in flak, kill SC, then bring in LRMs) is just too much micro for me, I am too old for that kind of stuff [e digicons][/e] Anyway most of my friends are playing Advent and massing out CapShips and Carriers mixed with very few Ilums and Guardians (don't ask me why, I know they underestimate

Servus guys, as we use to say in goG (good old Germany). I am silently wandering these forums for quite a while now, always looking for new strats and tips. And I am aware of the reference spreadsheet, the combat mechanics guide and many other topics but came across a few questions that the search function couldn't answer, so I post them here: 1. Which armor class have structures? Very heavy? Thus HC, Bombers and Cap Ships are the
Except that: - Capital ships are over 5 times as durable, depending on the type and level. - Capital ships can contribute to fleet control of the planet, which siege frigates can not do. - One capital ship replaces 4 siege frigates in fleet supply, not 5. - Some ship powers flatten planets better than going for pure siege ships. Raze planet and drain planet are cruelly powerful to planets, plus there's a few more. - Capital ships cost less for their benefits overall.[/

Addition: If you have changed the Router Password and you can't remember, you can reset the router to default settings (how to is should be in the manual) and then login with the default password as the_Monk said. Again, if you don't want to do that stuff, download hamachi and use this, it works than exactly as you where in a LAN (so you do not need to reconfigure the router or anything)
Go with the capital ships, siege frigates are easily destroyed and the AI targets them the second they enter the gravity well.
This is why you just bring in the siege frigates after defense is destroyed. In my opinion this is only a question of time and effectiveness. I think there is no good in attacking an enemy colony, bombing the defense and then just leaving the planet itself unharmed. I always try to destroy the colony and take it for myself because it hurts the enemy economy and strengthens your own. Under that condition it is simply a MUST to use siege frigates because (as you said) bombing a whole planet with only Cap Ships takes far too much time. I usually have about 10 siege frigates

Agreed. If you are additionally hooked into the internet then add an exception rule to the firewall settings. If your Laptops are not in the internet at all, turn it off.

This is in short what you need to do: 1. Hook up your Laptops in a LAN (either a cross-link cable, using a switch/hub or a WLAN adhoc network) 2. Disable firewalls (because these usually block most games even in LAN) 3. Start Sins 4. Player 1 Selects Multiplayer->LAN->Create Game, selects a map and clicks "Create" 5. Player 2 Selects Mutliplayer->LAN->Join Game, clicks on Refresh and the game should appear in the list. If it does, select it and click "Join". If not, chec

The bounty put on a player's head is actually not only for pirates. That means if you destroy ships or structures of an enemy player who has bounty on his head you get a certain amount of that money. That has two effects: 1. You earn money destroying ships and structures 2. The bounty on that player decreases and thus the pirate threat against that player decreases as well. The vasari tech then simply gives you x% more money than you would actually earn when killing enemy ships

Oh you meant "where to download". Reading the topic I was shocked for a moment assuming someone offering an illegal download of this game. Why did you buy a download-version of this game if you only have an offline PC? However, as far as I know, you cant (legally) download the whole game without directly installing it (e.g. using Stardock Central). Nevertheless, I have read that in some cases it may work to simply copy the whole installation from one computer (e.g. where you do

I absolutely agree with you, the Vasari volcanic research does not pay off unless you have dozens of volcanic planets. But IMO a better solution would be to adjust the pop cap for the different planet types depending on the race. So if Vasari actually prefer volcanic planets, why not changing the population cap for Volcanic worlds from 70 to 160 (which would significantly increase the effects of volcanic research) and maybe reduce the pop cap for desert worlds. The same could be done fo

Although I don't like these "mission mechanics" too much, these seem to have a nice side effect: You have to adopt your diplomatic relations depending on the situation. So if your two allies seem to go to war, choose one to support and one as your new enemy. That way you can at least keep one of the two allies on your side. On the other hand that would be a good time to look for a new ally in the rest of the AI players. It's not that hard in late game because most missions are easily fulfilled.<

That's a hard lesson you've learned in that game ;) When playing vs AI the best option is to make allies (by fulfilling missions) right from the beginning of the game. I don't know the Game Mechanics but it can be that AI teams up against the weakest player (which you might have been since you've only had one planet). Anyway starting late game to try to break an AI alliance might be a little too late. Since the missions in the early game are quite easy ("give 1000 credits" and stuff l
