I don't want to deal with Steam and I am happy to see that Galactic Civilizations 1 and 2 are available on GOG. But there are some details I need to know before deciding on a purchase. <span styl

My previous post is a threat to Stardock? No, that is just a consequence of me not upgrading to Windows Vista. DirectX 10 is only supported under Windows Vista, and since I am not going to upgrade to Windows Vista, it means that I am not going to buy the games requiring DirectX 10 (which may include future Stardock games if they also require DirectX 10) since they are useless to me. Microsoft is not going to get my money now or in the future, and it just follows that any other future software wh
Ok, I have a few questions about "activation". I just purchased a copy of the game (retail copy) and I am not happy in the least. I believe I have been "bait and switched" by deceptive marketing tactics. 1) Why do I have to "activate it online?". This is the most insidious form of DRM. It means that if I am in the mountains and my vid
Brad, Will you in the future be upgrading some of the graphics in GalCiv2 Dl & DA to take advantage of the DirectX10 features in Vista? I was reading info on Vista at the different game sites and CNet and was curious if you had any plans or if you are happy with where you are with GalCiv2 and include any new graphic features in GalCiv3
Charge you for using your computer?? Where in blazes did you find out about that? Seriously, I don't know all the fuzz about Vista being bad, wrong and whatever you say. Most of the "bad things" (WGA, Validation, DRM, etc.) from "big brother" is their attempt to secure their stuff from being pirated. Their DRM schema is basically a <
Windows Vista has come out. And I have to say, I really like it. Should you switch to it right away? No. I can't recommend it yet until the video driver situation
oh don't get me wrong. I think Windows Vista rocks. But as a game developer, I don't use technology for the sake of technology. I use technology to make a game. There's nothign in Vista I need to maek the games I want to make. Windows Vista rocks? Sorry but I cannot agree. What
Guys, why upgrade to Windows Vista now? Windows XP works fine with the game. And what I have heard is that there are a lot of software which have problems with Windows Vista (some problems probably are due to drivers not ready for Vista as well). Windows Vista (Ultimate) is very expensive, and the draconian activation and "Software Protection Platform" in Windows Vista may lock you out of the computer if it decides now or in the future that you are running a pirated version. Why risk th
As noted in 2) above, there should be a second serial in the box that can be used with the game. The Collector's Edition serial which begins with GC2- is only for unlocking the extra content. If the GC2- serial is the only one you have, try exchanging it at http://galciv2.com/paradox/index.aspx. If that doesn't work, contact [email protected].
I read through this thread and someone said the serial key should consist of 28 characters only. However, I recently purchased a copy of GalCiv 2 here in Hong Kong and the serial key consists of 29 characters (including the GC2 at the beginning). Does this mean I cannot activate the game if I install and update it (I have not do so yet)?
As hinted by Peace Phoenix, the activation server simply generates a code based on your serial key, email address, and hardware config (AFAIK SD does not keep or use your hardware info, it is merely used to bind that activation to that machine). It then stores that code in a file called sig.bin, located in the GalCiv2 folder. No risky disk muckery involved at all. <b
Ah, no comment from Stardock about the kind of activation used?
Benjamin Low says: I'm not sure about the type of activation that Stardock uses... but it should work in boot camp with no problem (if you're running XP its the same as just having a native XP machine). You can play/download the games onto multiple computers - its one of the selling points of Stardock's stuff (I've got all their software running on my
One more question. What kind of internet activation does you use? If it is the kind used by Adobe and Macromedia (from Macrovision, which writes data to the start of the hard disk, and which may interfere with Boot programs like System Commander 8 which I am using) then I am not going to purchase the game. My System Commander setup is vital to me and I cannot risk any possible interference by other softwares such as the Macrovision activation.
I intend to purchase an all new Intel MacBook later in the year and possibly also an Intel Mac mini. Will GalCiv II run on an Intel Mac (under Windows XP, using Boot Camp to install or under virtualization products such as Parallels Desktop)? I believe it can, but I thought it best to ask here first. I saw here that GalCiv II requires internet activation to play after upgrading to 1.1 or later. Does this mean I can only activate on one computer to play? (For example, if I buy the game
