Seems apart from custom your top scores are from either Krynn or Korath. Well, I think they are two of the most powerful now. I still prefer custom over all the stock races. But, I do often get high scores with both of them, which is exactly why I wanted to run a tournament between the two, and see who won out. There is no "title" however. Individual players don't win, just one of the two races. Matthew Girard - I've added you

Anybody else ever used this tactic? Yes. Not just with the Yor though. On smaller maps military starbases can be a little more feasible. I like to put up four military starbases only upgraded 3-4 times, each with -2 enemy speed, and also each with a +2 speed to my ships. In their range enemies are -8 speed, and I'm +8. I especially do this if facing the Korath. Defenders of the two key sectors or so you are protecting now don't need engines, and y

Certainly you would agree the ability doesn't even come close to something like Super Annihilator or Super Breeder. Certainly I would. It is an ability that takes work to get the most out of, like Super Organizer. Theses are both powerful in their own right, but take skill and planning to use to full effect. Super Hive or Super Annihilator don't really take manipulating the situation to get the most out of them, so they are much more powerful. <br

Is there some trick to using it right? Lots of offense, speed and miniturization. Pick +2 speed and +20% weapons, and then put no engines and cram lots of weapons onto every ship. Any turn a super warrior ship attacks, any ships it destroys in the first round do not fire back. This makes the dreaded cargo hull killers viable, you don't need any hitpoints, just guns. The weakness of the super warrior ability is that it only works when they at

Spore ships do give a significant advantage, but personally I like that for when I fight against the Korath. Actually taking worlds and good pop management has always been a... weaker element of the AI IME, and finally with the Korath we get an AI that is aggressive and actually takes worlds. The AI is bad at colonizing after the colony rush is over (see the mega event that turns all planets in 5 sectors into class 10s. For me, that has always been loads of free planets for the player

Thanks Neilo, for both posts I just assume he's young. He will learn how to play. First time I ever got accused of cheating though, I only have one cheat flagged game even, and that was from a patch bug. I try to get along with people here, flame wars are destructive and typically a waste of time and energy. Good luck on your game. I have my second Korath on the way as well, but it is

Altarians Super Organizer - yes. All other civs that share your alignment (note, they don't need Xeno Ethics, just to be leaning your direction) will automatically decalre war on anyone who declares war on you. They will do this no matter how recently you traded with them, and they will break treaties and alliances to follow this rule. Arceans Super Warrior - only the first round of combat. Build fleets with huge attack numbers. Drengin Super Dominator - this ability is a wa

We aren't really talking about colony rush strategies, but what the AI does during a colony rush. Is it behaving as intended? Whether it's behavior is fair or not, makes them game harder or easier, etc. is really a secondary point. If the AI is working as intended (i.e. not "cheating") or whether it is somehow getting sensor information it shouldn't have.

And you know, I just noticed. I always play Dark Avatar, and yet the text on that metaverse page says Dread Lords. Stardock must have forgotten to update the graphics on that page.

No, I'm not impatient, I had just never entered a suggestion before. I guess my point with getting an in game link is that it is hard to tell anyone the Altmeta exists unless they visit this website. If they are only playing the game, they would never know something else existed. Adding a button with a link to an external site would represent like a five minute programming resource dedication, so it isn't going to be labor intensive. Of course, I'm not asking stardock myself, just suggesting

Oh, screenshots were a good idea, pictures saying a thousand words and all. Also, yeah, the whole forum seems to update slowly and unreliably, as per mumblefratz above. Not sure why, and sometimes it catches changes right away.

Well, I have a few suggestions. As has been stated elsewhere, one of your goals is to increase interaction and activity among the "metaverse community". To do this, you need to drive users to place which supports this interaction. Stardock doesn't do an especially good job of this currently - the metaverse manager links to a page that is an insular list of your accomplishments. Even if you join an empire, you only get interaction with other players if there is an independant empire w

IMO there's an (unwanted) glitch in the code, that alows the AI to see what I've revealed. If that's true it explains a lot. And I didn't want to get in an argument with the devs just because the tests I run seem to come up with different results than them. I really don't care if the AI "cheats" in this way, but I was able to isolate the behavior. Perhaps the problem with my test was those dozen sensor range 15 cargo hulls. They revealed t

On the galciv2 home page, along the left hand side is a box for "Recent Posts". This usually had the 10 most recent posts listed. For the last week or so, this box is always blank. To get a lit of the posts I have to click on "Everything" under Forum links. Is this a known problem, or just an error for me with my browser settings?

Not a new bug for sure. And it is often much more than one ship. Sometimes near the end of a game there will be a whole stack of ships sitting there, many of them for races that were already destroyed. I would get this almost every game in 1.5x.072sih. But it is only cosmetic. And it is always in the same corner.

Purge, For what it is worth, I've also had problems with the ship build notification (though not the autopilot, but I also play on much smaller maps than you). When I build 100-150 ships in one turn, I only seem to get the ship build icon along the right of the screen for the first couple of dozen. Hope that helps.

Sir, Please don't try and hijack this thread. It is for the tournament. If I was cheating, my games would get a cheat flag. I'm not giving away cash prizes or anything, so no one is at a disadvantage if I play. I'm even splitting my games between the races, so in theory I should cancel myself out. There is plenty of advice on these boards to help you improve your game. My scores are possible. There are people who have gotten scores of over half a million. Good lu

I was playing with an 85% tax rate to test it out, once I overcame my lease deficit. All planets but 3 were filled with markets. And I had the Mind Control Center already built (had a +220% economy bonus total by this point)

Get yourself set to make lots of money, but throw yourself in an economic tailspin by over leasing early. Then, you just have to wait weeks (months) of population breeding while you just bleed money and wait for your income to finally overcome your lease deficit. It sounds more dangerous than it is, sometimes, even though this strategy might knock you out for 20 turns, when you finally turn it around you have such an infrastructure built that nothing can ever stop you. (For instance, I have b

Well, it does help. It means your attack was really facing 55 off type defense. The enemies will go for your mediums first, your largers second. Your attack of 117 should average (before defense) about 58 damage in the first round, (all three mediums should be destroyed after the first round), and then about 27 damage in the second round. The medium hull you are targetting should only have 7 defense against you. So in round one, you would expect to destroy the medium fight
