Plus, being able to post a 50k - 70k score in 6 hours of play can be better than taking a month to grind through a 500k game. Don't count out the little scores.

Population grows a little better with 100% approval, but not much, really. It is more than it seems, and the effects are cumulative. Overall you will want a large and healthy population. They're only good for tax revenue? And as soldiers when you start invading worlds. Tax revenue is really important the more you are trying to do with your civilization; underestimate its value early on at your peril.<b

Your approach is a bit off. When aiming for Large and Huge vessels, you use Missiles, not the fight weaponry mass drivers. Um, I had the tech tree maxed, I could have built whatever I wanted. I was testing the new combat values in a real game environment... which meant using on-type weapons and defense. Off type defense bug is big, and makes matching defenses much less important, but it's not MORE powerful than match

I've already bribed every other civilization to attack them but Korath're beating the snot out of everyone and taking planets left right and center Before that happens be prepared to become a vulture: wait with lots of troop transports at the edge of the front and when enough victim's planets lose defenders, you land your transports and claim planets for yourself. You even don't need your own military, as the attacker will take care for victim's warships.</div

did it ever occur to you to use beam or missile based attack ships? Well, yes but 1)Off type defense bug. And 2)I was testing the balance of matching defense against matching weapons - some people think this is still unbalanced.

OK, just to answer a few quick questions: First, there was only one military resource in the whole galaxy, I had it, and I had it maxed. The drengin had no military starbases. That is a base stats ship with only racial bonuses applied. Second, according to my spy readout of the drengin they had a +55% weapons bonus and a +35% defense bonus. They could have gotten that just from basic racial numbers and a few anomaly bonuses, and they were war party. Those Dreads of theirs w

OK, first off the typical apologies. I play on suicidal. I play on maps with all abundant settings. I play with very fast research (and turn tech victories off). This does mean that I get into wars with everyone maxed in the tech tree with some regularity. I am used to wars at this level, and it makes up about half of my combat experience in DA. I (finally) got around to running a game where I was in some real wars, and had to work to stay alive. My main enemy was the drengin (+55

2) Draw battles favor the one with more attack. This means that fielding an invincible ship isn't always a sure thing. You have to make sure that your fleet also has enough attack to kill the enemy in 50 rounds. Yeah, Roxlimn is exactly right here. The more I field high def ships, the more I am seeing them die if I can't wipe out the entire enemy fleet in 50 rounds.

Obviously the case where a player is willing to trade Phasors 5 for Phasers 2 shows the AI shoudl probably trade that but that gets to be such a specific case that programming for that as opposed to putting time into other areas is not realistic. Yeah, I'm sorry, I don't want you to waste time. And I do like overall how the changes have improved the AI. Sometimes I feel that the AI is not taking deals it should... but at the same time overall the new t

1. It's REALLY easy to bribe them into declaring war on another AI. If you make sure that all the other AIs are involved in at least 1 war at all times they will almost never declare war on you. It's almost essential to do this on maso/suicial. Yeah, I agree. (I know, I know, this is going to sound like cheese) Typically, I try to have all AIs at war with all other AIs once they start wars on me. With nine opponents thats like 70 some wars going on at

A word of warning: the Propulsion ability bonus is NOT worth it, too expensive for too little. Those 5/8 points are better spent in Research and Economy, even Military or Social Production. I disagree, at least in part. It depends on your map settings. If you have research set to very slow, it may take years to reach hyperwarp. But in the early part of the game you can build ships loaded with weapons with no engines or just one ion drive and still ma

I wanna know if anyone can win a game beyond tough anymore Sure. Since the new trading rules I have posted 7 suicidal wins on the metaverse. Most of them with tech trading on. Now I didn't get any tech with it on, but I gave away tech to manipulate the enemies and start wars... there is still plenty you can do to try and control the enemy.

Come on, its a great penalty for ctrl-ning too many times. Just play with what you are dealt, you'll be better for it All in good fun, of course, you can play however you like

Yeah, this is a good idea if you don't mind the negative diplo hits for starting wars. I have used it myself at times, although typically only when I play evil. A similar trick is to get someone else to pay you to declare peace on someone you are at war with. Note, you can declare peace with them even though the initial 8 turns of war hostility has not passed, so you can't talk to the AI you are at war with directly. This is the best way to start and stop wars in the same turn.

Well, you don't need Harpoon II that badly. My biggest problem are trades that are just plain dumb for the AI to turn down. In my last game I tried to trade my Phasor V for the AIs Phasor II, and I had all of the diplo techs, translators, showcase... and an "incredible advantage in diplomacy". Nope, AI wouldn't trade its lower level tech from the same tree as mine. That is just frustrating. The other thing I have noticed is that now Super Diplomat AIs is a sure way to die.

Iztok - I agree, both of those races are killer under the new DA rules. The Drengin less so as the game goes on because Super Dominator Corvettes get them into wars they can't handle sometimes. These two races often start with between a +45% and +65% weapons bonus, and that is hard for any race to overcome. When you think in terms of how much higher you have to be in the tech tree to match them, well it is a huge advantage. In my experience, maxing weapons and logistics can

Well, the trick really is to balance a lot of things. Here are some very basic tips that might help you... Assuming you are starting a game on a medium map, there are, I think, four things that is helpful to focus on in the first year: Early game economy: Early in the game (the first year, as you mentioned) is the most important time to build an economy, or figure out some way to make money. Here are a few simple strategies: - Take the Super Trader Ability. Not only

In my experience, the easiest way to get a higher score is to have a much higher population and huge income than everyone else. On smaller map sizes (which I'm guessing your playing at with those scores) shoot for a population of around a trillion by the end of year 4. This is easier if you set planets to abundant, because there are more planets to get population on. Also, try to win on Dec 22 of years 1, 4 or 9, as scores seem to drop off at years 2, 5, and 10 respectively. Time is

Although, if you didn't play the first one you can get a little more story. Freelance is a sequel to Starlancer. I also hope there is a third in the series at some point.

Yeah, its possible. Remember, the Krynn get additional points in addition to their already high base stats. That they had a higher morale than you with higher taxes is to be expected. Of course, your difficulty level will change this as well. Don't forget, you don't need to do everything at once. For instance, you could just rush buy factories and put your production to 100% military and worry about research once the colony rush is over. Check the AIs stats, you will see they oft
