Thanks for the confirmation. I figured the game would support it, just wanted to make sure.

I'm currently on a 1280x1024 monitor and thinking about upgrading to a wide screen 1680x1050 monitor. Does the game support this resolution? Thanks.
Promote the Snathi. Long live evil squirrel power!
You need two things. Firstly, the the race must show relations as "Close" in the diplomacy screen. Secondly, both you and the other race must have perfected the yellow "Alliances" tech. You can bribe races to friendly relations, but you cannot bribe them to close. Once friendly, close relations occur on a seemingly random basis. It's important to increase your diplomacy rating by researching the yellow diplomacy techs. Build the Diplomatic Translators and Galactic Showcase specia
Speaking of the Korath, if you look at them closely, you'll see they have some pretty darn good free bonuses. Definitely can be a big advantage for the right game settings and play style. Plus, they have spores. If you can live with a standard production and population growth rate, they're actually a pretty good race to play. They're ideal for a short purely offensive game. The Yor are also good and my favorite in Dread Lords. They have strong free bonuses in production and the min
Super Hive for me. It doesn't provide an advantage right out of the gate like Super Breeder, but it sure makes production fast and cheap. It's interesting to note which races expand most quickly when playing against them. Barring a poor starting position, it's always the Torians and Thalans.
That being the case, even if 64-bit did follow that same pattern it would have a 64GB RAM limit instead of a 2GB limit (i'm guessing).
Actually, a 64 bit program can address 2 to the 64th power which translates to 16 million terabytes. Don't think addressable memory will be a limitation for 64 bit processing any time soon. For 64 bit Windows, I imagine access to physical memory would mainly be limited by the number and capacity of memory modules supported by the mo
There's a memory leak. When a big game loads, I've noticed it occupies the major part of a gigabyte. That amount only creeps up during invasions (destroying ships and taking planets). So, if you're just building and not invading, you can keep the game running without concern. During invasions, exit and reload every so often to avoid hitting the memory limit. A 32 bit program can address 4GB of memory. Since 32 bit Windows imposes a 2GB limit on any one application, it stands to rea
Aside from the obvious differences, DA does have some handy features making it perferable to DL. For example, you can use the L key to specify which direction ships launch from a planet. It's better about auto-upgrades and doesn't force you to always use the latest project. The tech tree display can be zoomed in and out. All things considered, I'd have to say it's a better game. However, it's more resource intensive so on a slower computer, big games can be a problem. I could tell the diff
I occasionally get a CTD with a reported fault when using Ctrl-N in DA as well. It happens pretty rarely so I've never reported it.
Stardock allows you to install the game for your own use on more than one computer. I switch Metaverse games back and forth between my laptop and desktop system without issue. To share a game between computers, synchronize the whole GC2 directory in "My Games". You need the ship files as well as the save game.
Yea, it's a great game. Glad you didn't miss out on it! And yes, there are lots of intelligent people posting tons of information about the game in these forums. It makes the game that much more interesting. Also, compliments on your excellent english.
I've played a lot of different types of computer games and GC2 is hands down the king of replayability, awesome value. It's also great the way they come out with expansions to keep the game fresh. I hope the pace doesn't slow down after TA. I'm hoping to see a GC3 within a year or so of TA's release.
I'm still playing, though not as much as before. Man, this game is just hard to put down.
The fantasy TBS game is up next.
Personally speaking, I tend to avoid things with "fantasy" anywhere in the description. I generally don't read fantasy titles or watch fantasy movies. Conversely, I really go for anything involving space travel making GC2's theme attractive to me. I'll be interested in a GC3, assuming it has a similar theme. I would think any feature requests or improvements made in this forum could be directly applied to a "GC3" site.
Tried to do an edit and got a new post, but I was going to add that the member number seems like useless information to me. Removing it would allow the field to be reduced in width providing more for the text. Also, a screen width of 1280 is considered rather small these days. The forum could probably be wider overall.
I'm using IE6 with a screen size of 1280x1024 if that helps. It would be nice to be able to tell the forum what default font size to use. The reduction in width of the text field is probably not the best way to go, especially with a bigger font.
The default font is a little small for me. Is that something I can change on my end? FWIW, I don't think the medals look very good with a white background.
The only game operation I've encountered that runs up memory usage is planetary invasion. During those phases of the game, I reload often to keep memory from running out. That being the case, I don't really understand why Stardock has had such a hard time finding the cause. It's been reported by several people that memory issues only occur during invasions.
Isn't the auto-focus another option you can switch off?
Yes, it can be shut off, but try playing without it on gigantic. You get lost a lot. Some things you do need the auto-focus for, survey ships finding anomolies is not one of them.
The game wants to spam you to death. I play with all notifications off that can be turned off. Some of them still insist on appearing. A few are important to me, such as who declares war on who and any special projects that build. Those I need, but too many of the notifications are unnecessary and only cause distraction. I do use auto-survey notifications in the beginning when they can have a big impact on the game, but later, I shut them off. When they're on, it's highly distracting the w
I'm definitely going to need help with new tech trees. Hehe, it took me a long time to learn just one. Any information posted about that is going to be a big help for me.
SDC opens "news" by default, but you can set it start where you want. Mine fires up on the applications page. Steam is a good example of a disribution system to avoid. SDC has little in common with that one. SDC is not required to run the game, only to install it. You could remove SDC and the game would still function. You can use archive files with SDC to install/activate the game without even connecting.
I've seen this event quite a bit. Its bark is worse than its bite and you can pretty much ignore it. What it does is progressively increase ability bonuses for the benefactor, but the rate is actually pretty slow. Unless you're playing a very long game, it's not going to have a big impact on its progression.
I was down on SDC initially, but after using it for a while, it isn't so horrible. You should try it and you'll probably like it. It's a little bit convoluted, but it's no problem once you get used to it. If it makes things easier for Stardock and the result is we get updates more often and faster, then it's certainly worth it to host a small innocuous distribution program on my system. It does offer some convenience for the user as well. You can easily archive and restore existin
