Whether I make the point or not, I really enjoyed the challenge of the year 0 win. It's not something I've ever tried to do before. It's difficult because you're running in the red the whole time. Every bc you spend makes a difference and you have to put thought into every expense. A lot of it comes down to how many cash anomolies your auto-survey is lucky enough to get. It was funny for me, after playing these MVL games for a few days, I went to start a Meta game and I went, "wait a minute
almost no one uses anything but minisoldiers, tidal disruption, and propaganda. And very occasionally, using mass drivers and the failure exploit to crush high populations with CI buildings.
That statement would be true for me. I use tidal disruptors the most followed by mini-soldiers followed by mass drivers. Tidal disruptors has the best advantage of the non-PQ reducing tactics, but can wipe most of the buildings of course. Mini-soldiers is probably the best all-around in
I think they're going for a "it takes as long as it takes" approach. That's fine with me because I'd rather not see big changes after the official release.
This has been a humbling experience. Just goes to show ya, getting gold in Metaverse is one thing, making a high score in MVL is something entirely different. My hat's off to you guys! In any case, I had a blast with these settings. Here's my submission;
I usually go the ignore route so I probably shouldn't even post on this thread since I'm only helping to keep it from fading into obscurity. But, I would like to comment on something mention earlier regarding the cost of ethical alignment. For the longest time I thought the cost of alignment selection was a constant, but it varies depending on your alignment at the time. Looking in the Civ Manager on Governments and Ethics, whichever you are leaning toward costs zero when selecting that align
I'm hoping that Stardock offers a combo package of DA and TA for those of us who are still playing DL.
They already do. [link="https://www.galciv2.com/Purchase.aspx"]Here it is[/link].
I just posted (not submitted) my first MVL game. I'm really enjoying it. I should have signed up at round 1 !!! Good job on putting the league together guys!
I posted (not submitted) my first game. Those settings are super fun. I was really missing out before. I'll have to try a few more and see if I can get a better one to submit.
Just posting to put this in "my replies" so I don't lose track of it. Anyway, thanks for the welcome and look forward to trying these settings!!! - Craig
I get tons of the %300 ones, but the %700 are pretty rare. Those are the ones I was talking about in the previous post.
Mumblefratz, during the colonization rush on a large or greater map with planets common or greater, do you bother researching the colonization techs?
Mumblefratz is still playing DL at this point (which doesn't have colonization techs), but if you want my input, I pick them up later when I actually start to build the planets I've conquered. Initially, I'm not colonizing extreme worlds myself.
This is getting to be a pretty interesting discussion! I have to agree there just isn't much opportunity for good to accel. However, that doesn't mean there's no reason to ever play it. Barring the score mongering, there are game scenarios where playing good can be a rewarding experience. Maybe the devs intended it to be this way and we're just assuming they could have "balanced things better".
Personally, I probably wouldn't get involved with the league if they were using the bigger maps. The reason I'm playing this round is for the motivatation to try something different and the smaller maps are less of a commitment. I wouldn't want to let my team down by failing to post a game. That could happen pretty easily with the time it takes to play a big map.
I'll give it a whirl. I sent a PM to Neilo. Should be interesting so see if I can do well on the smaller maps, might be harder than it looks.
Does the endgame save get transmitted when you post to the Metaverse? I was under the impression only a few game statistics are transmitted, as reflected by the endgame xml file in the Metaverse directory.
Could be the case, I don't know. I can only say what I've been seeing in the games I mostly play. Let me change that previous statement to "based on what I've seen".
Those of you that have been around awhile should remember the issue of editing racial bonuses to extreme levels that was used in the v1.2 timeframe. However this was quickly exposed and dealt with. In that case I think it involved editing the prefs.ini file.
That one was a pretty obvious cheat actually. All you had to do was edit the values in the race's xml file in "My Documents\My Games" with a plain ol' text editor. You could give yourself the maximum bonus in every area
Homeworld base food production has seemed to be somewhat of a moving target over the course of GC2, but I don't have a problem with 16b homeworlds per say. It would make things simpler if they just made it equivalent to a normal world with an advanced farm. In any case, I just throw a morale building on my homeworld and that takes care of it. Later in the game, when I have a lot of base approval, carrying 16b pops on homeworlds I conquer is a non-issue.
But i doubt i will ever play suicidal to the degree of success you guys do.
I don't think I'm as skilled as the other guys, but I only win about 1 out 5 game attempts at that level and I'm fishing for a good start. On Maso, I can win for sure with a good start on every attempt. The thing is, I know when I'm going to lose pretty quick so I try again. The Metaverse record doesn't reflect that.
In a gig/abun game, I ususally see around 5 or 6 libraries and 3 or 4 mines. That would be out of 700 some habitable planets. So, if you're playing a smaller game with say, 100 habitables, you may not see more than one, if any at all.
Hehe, I'll enjoy my gold while I can. I was going to say, Mumble only has to post one of his mega-scoring games to blow past me, but it's cool being #1 for a little while at least. I've taken advantage of the fact you can climb the rankings by posting a lot of shorter games. It's more fun that way because the conquest part is most enjoyable and I can do that more. I did do some score grinding on that last one and it was kind of a drag so I may stick with the lower scoring game. Though, I ma
I can't speak for everyone, but I would gladly trade some load time to improve the performance of the list. I play a lot of the game from there so any improvement is going to be greatly appreciated. Since we're on the subject of the colony list, I'd like to mention one other thing. DL would remember the previous sort and use it as a secondary sort criteria. That was actually pretty handy for me. DA doesn't seem to have any secondary sort criteria at all. Would it be possible to rei
I'd like to say 1.8g runs great for me. Super job on the fixes. Otherwise I have some minor annoyances I'd like to mention here, hope that's okay. There's a big lag opening the colony list when it's really long. Interestingly, there's no lag the first time it's opened after a game load, regardless of how long the list is. When using the ship or project quick build from within the colony list, there's a wait for the operation to complete. It makes the function time consuming
DA 1.8g works great. Haven't had any notable problems. Habitable planet counts are slightly lower than 1.61. I'm getting a little over 700 total habitables for gig/abun. 1.61 would yield around 900. Also, PQ has been shifted a little. For example, purple star planets are more common, but have lower quality. And it *is* nice running those auto surveys the entire game.
Yea, the precursor mines and libraries are real goodies. I hope they increase the occurance of those in TA. I seem to get more libraries than mines and I think the mines are more useful.
