The way it works with labs and such, they don't actually pay for research or production or whatever. They just allow you to spend more money on them. So, that 20% reasearch bonus means you have 20% more in your budget for research which translates to faster tech. The catch is, you need the economy to support it. When you crank up the research slider you can hit the red sooner.

The trick is to get a super powerful economy going so you can just buy the ships instead of waiting for them to build. One thing about DL that is vastly different from DA, in DL, you can build all-factory planets that can easily pop out engine laden constructors every turn. In DA, engines are much more expensive so you have to use your economic might to help get those constructors/transports out. You'll never be able to pop out a round every turn, but with a strong enough economy, you can bui

By this... you 'don't' mean they act like the Resource Influence Starbase right??? I know those types of Starbases increase your overall influence coming from your planets = extend the range of influence for your planets. Influence resources increase your overall influence. Influence starbases amplify your existing influence within their area of effect (the circle you get when you select them). I tend to destroy my influence bases when I'm do

I think the key point is that there is no single "best build list," Yes, absolutely true. Even when trying to strictly adhere to a particular strategy, you'll find your optimal build varying from planet to planet. You really have to look at each planet individually and think about how to build it in a way that will best suit your game. I always start building markets early on. I tend to focus on production initi

The rate at which you build is based on economy. If you fill every tile on every planet right out of the gate, your economy will go bust and you will lose. I usually set up a handful of ship builders with mostly factories right away. When I come accross reasearch bonus tiles, I put labs on them as soon as I can. Eventually, all the tiles get filled, but only at the pace which my economy can support. As far as what to build, that depends on strategy. There are several including all

Don't put Drath into the game. From my experience: if Drath were in the game, there was always lots of senseless fighting. Now I make sure Drath are either absent, or constantly at war with someone else, or friendly to me. Yea, those Drath are real instigators. I don't let them play in DA. I like a good fight, but those constant war declarations early in the game are a bit rough. If I wanted to form a fleet of two or thre

You have already named all the uses of influence...except of course that if you can cover 75% of the map area with your predominant influence, you win an Influenc victory. I forgot about that. I play with all optional victory conditions disabled, military conquest all the way, kill, kill, hehe.

On the other hand ive seen something about an orbital terraformer. what is this? And how do i get one? An orbital terraformer is a galactic wonder, requiring the last tile improvement technology to be researched. It automatically upgrades all planets in your Empire (And any you capture later) to utilize all the usable tiles. Unfortunatley, the Orbital Terraformer seems to be suffering from something similar to the MCC.

I don't use influence buildings much. Population and lots of stock markets are more productive and they increase a planet's influence rating as well. When using influence starbases to flip planets or asteroids, it's necessary to add the influence modules made available through the yellow influence techs. There are 11 modules altogether, but the 5 most effective ones are all that I ever use (I don't know if it's intended behavior or a bug, but once you have all of them, you can skip the first

It's wierd, the whole social/military/research slider thing. I've never figured out exactly how the numbers work and it gives me a headache, so like the battle system, I don't worry about it. I just jockey the sliders around so build times look the way I want in the Colony Manager and in the little indicator that shows the current research project. The one trick is the shared social/military thing. You just have to realize if you're building ships, it goes a lot slower if projects are buildi

That's too bad it's not included in the standard game. I'm really stuck on the Yor for the miniaturization bonus. It would be nice to have that option for other races as well.

I actually have two buttons on my production network gear labeled: "Don't push me!!! - (my name) -->" (arrow points to the button) Hehe, I need one of those on the server in my home office. It's right next to my wife's computer and I can't tell you how many times I've reached over to shut it off and killed the server instead...oops.

I set Vertical Sync to "always on" through the nVidia control panel (I hate tearing), but I also set it to match within the game. I don't know if this is accurate, but I read somewhere that some games have problems when their video settings mismatch with driver setttings. As far as AA goes, I always set that through the game because I run different games with different settings. You can do the same thing through the nVidia control panel with the game profile options. However, I just leave AA

If it's any consolation, the battle viewer will get tiresome over time. Eventually, you'll shut if off for everything. At some point, you'll probably also find yourself doing battles in iconic mode most of the time. Although, every now and then I might zoom in on a couple heavy hitters going at it.

It crashed to desktop when I hit the turn button every time. Have you send it to the devs? I think they are always interested in reproducable crash Well, I'm kind of lazy that way. I rarely file bug reports and never do beta testing. However, I sure don

Engines are much more expensive and somewhat slower and bigger in DA. You can still build fast ships, but they become so expensive, it's not worthwhile to build them (takes too long). Although, the huge hull is bigger, but again, it becomes a cost issue. It doesn't do you much good spending all your time building huge fast fighters when the AI is coming down on you. You're much better off with slower ships that are quicker to build. Basically, when comparing ships of equal speeds, it takes 4

I always save 2 files at the same time - i.e. 'Game1' and 'Copy of Game1'. I do two saves just before I hit the turn button *every* time. Ctrl-L and Ctrl-S make it no trouble. After the game's been running a long time, it fills up all the memory. Doing a save can result in a "save aborted, not enough memory" error. Gotta have the backup save when that happens because the game wipes out the first save. I've had this problem since day 1. DA does it too.

I think what's needed is a galaxy-wide project manager. Something that can hide items from the list and can can control upgrades on all planets at the same time. What I end up doing now is finding a low class planet to get those worthless special projects off the list. The other ones I never build are just stuck there. Having no ability to control upgrades galaxy wide is a real *****. It's no fun going through several hundred planets one by one because the game went into automatic upgrade h

Hehe, in that case, I'm a genocidal maniac. I always wipe them off the face as soon as possible. Usually, superior military keeps others at bay, but I've been playing at the highest level lately and I'm heavily outgunned. I'll have to try that. Thanks for the tip.

Yea, that's handy, but watch out. Don't just click the button, sometimes the amount is incorrect or is much higher than what is actually required. I wiped out my treasury a few times doing that.
