What the heck does all that crap mean!!! The generic stuff is in the first 3 paragraphs, provides the system config. The rest is only meaningfull if you are a developer or have intimate knowledge of the game code. Most problems can be resolved just by inspecting the system config.

Don't think any of the non-resource starbases are worth the trouble. Takes too many modules to make them effective and way too many to defend them. I never build any. I only build mining starbases then add only the 7 mining modules to them. I defend them by putting a nice fleet of warships in the same grid sector. I might throw an influence starbase here and there to extend my range, but it's considered disposable.

I'm getting bored with these kinds of posts. I think I got great value for the $40 I paid. I certainly don't expect the developers to jump through hoops. But, they've been doing a lot of work that's great. It's easy to say, "I want, I want." It's another thing to code it. Suggesting changes to game mechanics is not reasonable and would require huge amounts of coding. It ain't gonna happen. Don't clog up the forum with that kind of nonsense. The game plays the way the game plays, accept

Well, you can set the habitable planet density in the game setup if that's a concern. I've found I need to be aware of how many habitable planets I'm generating in my universe. Any more than 200 or so makes the game unmanageable, for me at least. Being able to upgrade Class 0 planets to a habitable class would require a lot of game mechanics I doubt the game developers would feel any motivation to code. If I have the ability to upgrade unhabitable planets to habitable, then for sa

You're in for some enjoyable surprises with the AI. You won't get the full benefit of what the AI is capable of until you play on Painful difficulty or above. They do some pretty interesting things, even on lower difficulty settings, but a few things are disabled or inhibited. I've played about 20 games so far and am still discovering new ways to out-smart them. Yea, awesome game. As far as what you should do, cranking out military ships and staying on the offensive always works for

There was a problem where boxed versions of the game had missing/incorrect serial numbers. Sounds like you were one of the unlucky ones. You can email Stardock and they'll send you one. See the sticky thread regarding registration and activation problems.

Not sure about the EU version, but the USA version has two numbers, one for the collectors edition (obsolete now) and the other for the game. The one you use is on the CD jewel case. Disregard the collectors edition number when the online registration asks for it. The 1.2 update automatically enables it. Also, there are some issues using non-english settings in Windows. Set your language to english. I believe language issues will be resolved in the upcoming 1.3 update. If you are still ha

Geez, ownership changes hands so often with these tech companies, it's hard to keep up. Anyway, that's interesting and I wasn't aware ATI was making chipsets. I haven't noticed any ATI based motherboards. So, an "all AMD" system would utilize an AMD processor, ATI chipset, and an ATI GPU, cool! I'll look into going that route on the next upgrade.

I've been playing at Masochistic difficulty. I tried a game on Suicidal and didn't feel I could beat the AI. They seem to do things much sooner. On Maso, they get pretty far ahead of me out of the gate, but I'm usually able to overtake them toward the end. When comparing Masochistic to Suicidal, I think the AI are getting more than just additional bonuses in different areas. It seems to me there's a difference accross the board. At least, they do things a lot sooner.

It's nice to be able to match up the chipset and GPU makers. It gives you a warm fuzzy. This can only be done with Intel or nVidia. However, Intel doesn't make high performance GPU's so nVidia is it. But, with Intel, you can match the whole system, processor, GPU, and chipset. Though, I'm not particularly impressed with nVidia's chipset solutions. My desktop system runs an nForce 4 Ultra. The IDE bus is tempermental and the Northbridge runs very hot. In any case, manufacturers follow sta

Dude, If I had those awesome medals, I'd be showing em off. That gives you tons of credibility in the forum as someone who is an expert at the game, which you are of course BTW, I tried the upgrading of trade ships to economy starbases you mentioned in another thread. It was very cool and the economy starbases were traveling about the galaxy. Unfortunately, when one got to its destination plan

Well, I hope they felt the pain. In fact, I hope it hurt so bad they go out of business, freaking software facists. On my desktop system, I'm still running Win2K instead of WinXP becuase of the somewhat draconian activation system MS adopted with WinXP. Like I stated previously, I wouldn't mind if it was just an online activation system, but the MS method uses a checksum based on your hardware config. Major changes to your system's hardware void your activation (which I make quite a

Yea, that's a pretty nice card, worthy of getting excited about. Although, the 7950 GX2 is really something and is even faster. It runs a dual GPU so with SLI, you could run a Quad GPU graphics system. That's psycho! That would be so fast, even the most graphicaly intense games would barely load it. Right now, I'm running a 7900 GT Signature card from eVGA. It's clocked like crazy with a 600 MHz GPU stock, not quite as fast as a GTX (650 MHz), but does pretty good, 5000 points in 3Dmark 06

Normally, the game won't let you start a Metaverse game if "enable mods" is checked in the setup so that shouldn't be an issue. I believe the "cheater flag" checks if any of the stock game files have been modified. There's a file called gc2.xml in the xml directory that contains checksums and time stamps. If you've modified one or more of the game's stock files, you'll probably have to uninstall the game, remove any files left behind, and reinstall the game to stop getting f

I ended up buying just the parts at Computer Builder's Warehouse and MicroCenter and saved at least $1000, not including shipping and handling. So you're not necessarily going to save money with Dell. Interesting, I guess when it comes to higher end systems, you're not really going to save money with a builder like Dell or Alienware. If

I bought a laptop a short time ago that runs GC2 beautifully. It has an Intel Centrino Duo with an ATI X1600 video system. It has 1 GB of RAM and runs Windows Home edition. I don't think you have to worry too much about having a really high performace system to run GC2. This is more often not the case. When talking about graphicly intensive games like Battlefield 2, Doom 3, Quake 4, etc, performance is a big issue. Even so, my desktop system is fast, but it's not extreme. It run
