I tried playing a game where I started fighting as soon as I got a few weapons. The AI handed my butt to me

I think they should standardize the start to mitigate the motivation for constantly restarting to get a good setup. One thing that would help is to eliminate the randomness of the bonus tiles on your home planet. In other words, your planet always gets a pre-defined set of bonus tiles.
People can do all the finger pointing they want, but that isn't going to solve the problem. We just need to get off the fossil fuel. It's an archaic system. We have the technology, but not the will. There's too many people making too much money off the current system for anything to change.
There's an "about" section around here somewhere where Brad talks about how he's been seriously ripped-off in the past by 3rd party game plublishers. He states they're a lot more of a threat than software pirates. Totally understand where Stardock is coming from after reading that. There's a hell of a lot less risk and expense involved in doing a product via download as opposed to doing all the print and distribution required to put it on store shelves. I don't really have a problem with the
Astronomers have always had a problem calling Pluto a planet. "Unusually large round asteroid" is just a lousy name for it. They finally got around to giving it a classification besides asteroid, comet, or planet. The Kuiper belt that Pluto borders actually has a lot of big asteroids, but Pluto is the only one they've discovered so far that's really too big to call one.
You'll want those points you get at the end of a game. A military conquest on a gigantic map at a higher difficulty setting is best for that. There are additional ways to improve your scores, but I'm not really focusing on that myself. I just play my game and the score I get is the score I get. Although, I would like to break 100,000.
One thing, some of those files will reappear when you load a game with active designs. Before clearing them, you need to delete all your designs in the current game or start a new one. I routinely flush those files before I start a new game. Don't like old designs clogging things up.
I've stolen the Tech Victory tech from the AI when playing games with Tech Victory off so I know they will reasearch it. That's probably what happened.
I think our whole "fossil based fuel" way of live is just going to cave-in soon. After we've all reverted back to living like we did 150 years ago, someone will come up with some new energy source to base our way of life on. Us Americans are a big part of the problem. We use most of the oil in the world and have a government that is highly unlikely to initiate any change in the system. If anything, they stifle it. Needless to say, I'm not too happy with our current government.
Man those morale resources are great. Try fully mining 3 or 4 of them and building all the morale improving trade goods (don't trade them off to anyone). You can get 100% approval with 15b population and 80% taxes without any approval buildings at all. That's a staple for me.
AMD has a lot of overlap in their product line. You can get an Athlon 64, Opteron, or X2 with virtually the same features. The main thing is to look at the specs and compare them. Things like process size, single or dual core, L2 cache size, FSB speed (aka hyper-transport), core speed, and of course price are what to look at. Processor technology advances rapidly so you always want the latest generation. Generally, the Athlon 64 is single core, the Opteron has the highest core speed, and th
Minors are good for one thing only, easy conquer of a high PQ planet. Only one time have I encountered a minor that put up much of a fight. Later in the game, I usually take their planet as soon as they show up.
Good gets lousy bonuses, but there's one thing that sells me. Half the galaxy loves you right out of the gate. It makes my game really work for me. I like going to war on *my* terms so I only have to put diplomatic efforts into maintaining relations with the evil guys.
One planet can compete against 4 others with some influence starbase help, especially if the alien populations are 5b which is probable because they don't always build farms. I've flipped groups of 3 alien planets with nothing but two maxed out influence starbases between them. Start with an influence base in the adjacent grid sector of your planet. When I say grid sector, I mean right next to it, use Ctrl-G to see what I'm talking about. After you've built it up with the 11 influe
My most dreaded event, "The leader of foo has been assasinated and foo have declared war on us." The way I play, I can't even kill a fly until a game is several years old. That's usually game-over for me.
Approval doesn't account for squat with influence. I flip alien planets with 100% approval all the time. It's not too late. If the ratio is low, it can take a long time for the planet to flip. Sometimes never.
New development on my broswer crash problem. After looking at the error in the my event log which states; Application Failure iexplore.exe 6.0.2800.1106 in pngfilt.dll 6.0.2800.1106 at offset 0 I thought I'd look into updating this pngfilt.dll file mentioned in the error. I installed the latest security fixes for IE 6 SP1 which, for Win2K, update that file to version 6.0.2800.1505. WinXP uses version 6.0.2900 something. This seems to have mitigated the problem quite a bit.
Yea, the whole free bonus thing is confusing. The first time most people see it (including me), it looks like a bug. You think, "What are these bonuses that have no check mark in the points section?" Your first instinct is to check and uncheck some points which does reset it (and shouldn't). It takes a while to realize, "Oh, those are *supposed* to be there." Some text in that box indicating when a bonus is free would eliminate a few forum posts.
The "population growth versus taxes" issue is a big debate. I'm a gouger, I go for the taxes. I keep overall approval at the bottom of the green and, when planets don't have any approval builders yet, I may lower taxes a little to keep individual planets out of the red. I work the entertainment techs and run 1 farm and 2 approval buildings initially. After I've got a few morale resources built up and some morale building trade goods, a couple stock markets is all it takes to keep approval we
I buy most of my techs so yea, reasearch is not something I place a whole lot of priority on. However, the OP is just starting out in the game. He'll get hammered trying to do that without knowing the tricks of the trade (so to speak). That's something to master down the road. There's also the option of turning off tech trading which forces everybody to obtain their techs the good ol' fashion way. I'm so stuck on buying techs, I don't think I have the nerve to play a "no tech trade" game.
The would be good if the cheat flag would notifiy you *before* starting a Metaverse game. That would really torque me to play a whole game only to find it's flagged after I submit it. Thanks for adding that.
I run a gigantic map with around 200 overall habitable planets. That works well for me. 280 would be a bit much. Sometimes I set up trade routes, sometimes I don't, just depends on the course of the game. If I do, it's often for diplomatic reasons more than economic. Trade can be useful and if nothing else, the techs provide some important special projects. I always research them as soon as I can. As far as the OP, when you say "fanning out" are you sending your colony ships off b
Perfect all the yellow cultural conquest techs and add the 11 modules to the influence bases that increase effectiveness. Put one next to your planet in an adjacent grid sector. Restaurant of Eternity helps, overall influence helps, population of the planet helps, political buildings on planet help. Increase your overall influence by seeking out influence resources and adding all 7 of the mining modules (manufacturing techs provide those). Those galactic influence resources are invaluable.<b
hat works unless they are the one to declare war and then won't end it Yea, true, but I usually put a lot of effort into diplomatic tactics so I don't have to go to war until I'm ready. There's a point in the game where it gets sketchy, but I can usually keep them at bay.
No other site that you visit, anyway. I know at least one time this month already, there's been a 'windows update' that caused IE6 on Win2k to crash under certain circumstances ... No other site causes this. Others have also posted that the forum crashes their browser so I'm not the *only* one who has this problem <a href="https://forums.galciv2.com/
