Hehe, this reminds of that television commercial where the lenders are lining up to pitch the borrower. Cool, well, I like The Galactic Empire. They have a great little website and forum with various discussions. M.U. is very active in the forum here and in the empire forum so it seemed like one of the best ones. Also like the Star Wars theme. Hope to see ya

Hehe, there's still a few things I can't wrap my head around either. But you don't have to know every little detail of the game to play it. Some of the stuff just isn't that important. With money, make as much as possible. If a planet isn't set up to build ships, it should be set up to make money. Running around half the planets as builders and half as money-makers works for me. I use a planet quality rule for that, lower PQ gets mostly stock markets, higher PQ gets mostly industrial sect

Repeat after me, "I do not suck, I do not suck." All kidding aside, this game can be very hard at higher difficulty levels. It took me a lot of games to learn how to play it to the fullest. You just have to learn the tricks. There are a lot of them. Keep playing and you'll find them.

Play big, play difficult, and conquer the galaxy fast. Do that 3 or 4 times and you'll be in the top 25. The trick is learing how to do it. Takes a number of games. Playing big is probably most important. I've gotten higher scores on lower difficulties with some games. Masochistic is probably the best for scoring points. I also play Suicidal not for the points, but because I can't always win and like the challenge. It's also bragging rights. Game length seems to get you only w

Very cool to see something like this. They do need to find a representative that a) really wants to go and b) is in physical shape to do it. Ol' Shat is a bit past his prime so I don't blame him for turning down the offer. Patrick Stewart is younger and in better shape so he might be able to pull it off. In any case, they need to save themselves the potential emberassment and find someone who can handle it. Space flight is pretty taxing physically. Most people would need a lot of training.

The race you pick really depends on your play style, diplomat, warmonger, etc. (except Human, that's the sucker race). For me, I play the diplomat and Custom works best. You can't beat the AI at their game on Suicidal. You have to exploit their failure to build-out which can be done around halfway through the game, if you can keep them off your back long enough that is. It's always touch and go. Though once you get over the hump, you can beat them in the stretch.

Regarding the original topic, I haven't lost a vote yet. Haven't experienced any aspect of this. I don't have a problem with the government types. They don't seem to do anything but award overall bonuses and introduce the party vote. Not a big deal.

Man this whole battle system gives me a headache. I just build the biggest hulls with the most weapons and defenses and put them in the biggest fleets my logistics allows. Works for me. And, I don't have to get a headache trying to figure all this stuff out. The only thing I do is look at my enemy's fleets to see what I need to defend against and attack with.

I've noticed a lot of wierdness regarding income reported by the economic indicators. Lots of stuff in this game is inconsistent. I like how the colony manager never agrees with build times stated on the planet screens. Or how stated planet class doesn't agree with the number of buildable tiles half the time. And then there's the ship detail screen that provides specifications which don't make sense. I can only hope that stuff has been fixed in the 1.3 update. As far an economic penalty fo

Yr kenny icon looks like a guy in a trench coat... I can see why you like that level based on *your* icon. The Daleks are pretty obscene as in the "inspiring disgust" sense of the word

Well, think about it, first we have painful, then we have crippling, then we have masochistic, then we have suicidal. Those are all levels in terms of hurt applied to you by the game. Where does "Obscene" fit. It doesn't at all. Is the game going to flash me when I take out the Drengi or something? How about a few good naked shots of Carmen Electra, now that I could go for.

I hate having my difficulty show as "Obscene". Masochistic and Suicidal are such great names for a difficulty level. I can think of lots of better names for the 2nd highest difficulty level like, insane, extreme, deathwish, etc. The current name is remeniscent of a guy in a trench coat if you know what I mean. Please change the name for the 2nd highest difficulty to something better.

I don't go out with any set building strategy. There are too many variables based on PQ and tile bonuses. Generally, I determine if a planet is going to be a "builder" or a "money maker". I then build it accordingly. I don't put a priority on research since I trade techs a lot, but planets with research bonuses or high PQ tend to get a lot of labs. Some things are required for every planet like farms and entertainment, but the need for entertainment gets redcuced as you acquire morale impro

I mainly use trade routes for diplomatic purposes. The money they make is only significant early in the game. Later in the game, when I've had a need to improve relations with a race fast, I've built trading ships packed with engines. I've built ones that can zip all the way across a gigantic map in a few turns. After a route is established, the construction of a ship has no bearing on anything. Maintenance costs are an important consideration. Big war ships can drain your income q

Don't know about the X1600, but I'm pretty sure you'd be hard pressed to find a 7800 in AGP. At that price, you could buy a new mother board (they're cheap) and a PCIe card. You'd have a much faster graphics system for the same price. Sometimes it's just not worth staving off the inevitable platform change. Anyway, sounds like the OP just has a bad card and needs a new one. I suppose if ATI will replace if for free, that's cool. The 9800 isn't a bad card. Otherwise, don't waste yo

Ah, sounds reasonable. I suppose you could strip the AI if you could get their stuff without too much expense on your part. Planets can be pretty easy to come by later in the game.

Only problem with buying everything is that you have to do some mouse clicking to make ships appear. When you have factories popping out ships, they appear on their own. If nothing else, it's less tedious to let factories build them.

Quote from the sticky thread entitled; Brad's "Did you know you could do this" thread #5 You can play a quasi-Hot seat game with someone by loading up the game as GalCiv2 cheat (use the cheat parameter). Then when you set up the game, you let the AI play out a few turns and then have your friend pick one of the races they want to control. Have them select that unit and hit CTRL-SHIFT-Z.
