Regarding the graphs, that's quite normal since you get an extra movement round after loading a game, but no production whatsoever takes place. So you and all ai opponents have 0 production, research etc. I really hope this gets fixed in 1.3.

How do you upgrade your planets over time? Say planet 'A' has four factories to start. Do you later improve only two of the factories and tear down the other two in order to build a new type of production building that wasn't available earlier? Since new technology brings auto-upgrades of factories etc. wuth it, there would be too much micro-managemen
There is no meaning in Metaverse scores how many opponents you have. For maximazing you scores use only couple opponents. This leaves you hundreds planets in gigantic maps if you are quickly enough. What makes you so sure? If you are going for military conquest (which scores most points), you'd have to vanquish all foes. And there is an in-ga
I usually obsolete the core designs anyway because they clutter up the shipyard governor list. Do they stay obsolete in new games as well then?
But that is the correct fix, in case the devs want to make this easy change in 1.3. I hope they will do. I don't have anything against some micromanagement, but this upgrading is just getting tedious and could be fixed very easily, obviously.
Congrats Btw, your character's image reminds me of old computer game Spaceward Ho!
Well I am pretty sure that won't work for metaverse games as modifying the xml files will certainly award you a cheater flag for that game. I read that modding it would be easy, but I hesitated because of the metaverse issue. Now that Peace Phoenix assured me that modding is not the way to go, an official fix would come in very handy. All those c
Very nice indeed. Does it even make a difference now in 1.2 which fleet is attacking and which is defending?
Problem : Depending on what techs you research first, the automatic upgrade of research facilities is faulty in respect to Neutrality Learning Centers. The computer might choose to upgrade to invention matrices or Discovery Spheres, although Neutrality Learning Centers are available. A huge annoyance on bigger maps since you have to do it all manually. Fix : Have the computer check for highest value in buildings, this would make sure research facilities are automatically
It's because your research points exceed the first tech, then they go over for the second tech in the same tree etc. Creativity has nothing to do with it. I wonder if creativity has any effect at all.
I'm just wondering. For me it seems to be economics and society. Technology is also okay, but my military points sucked so far.
I'm kinda surprised by the support of AoW- the game had really crappy AI, even by non-stardock standards. Never heard of Dominions- don't think I've seen it in a store ever. Not that surprising. It's an indie effort by Swedish(?) programmers. Shrapnelgames distributes the games. I've never played Dominions myself, but now that part 3
I get stolen techs ( not from conquering worlds but from espionage ). I do keep espionage spending on after reaching advanced. However it could also be related to my exploring most of the anomalies -- I get a lot of +5 to espionage from them. I very often play Drath Legion, so I have this 50%(?) bonus on espionage, but it doesn
Recently, this issue has been discussed again. I can only say that in my games I've never stolen a single tech in spite of having "advanced" espionage level with some or all the ai opponents. I've seen people report that they have stolen technologies from ai's, so it should be possible, shouldn't it? Reasons for me not stealing any technologies could be: 1. I return espionage spending to 0BC after I hit advanced level. May be you have to continue to spend money to stea
You make a good point there about realism So let us not talk about realism, but about abusing game mechanics: As long as there are exploits, they will be used (by some at least). There is a munchkin, min-maxer etc. in many of us Just trying to improve things in this regard.
Yeah, turning the tech-trading off provides a challenge, and I guess turning off the tech stealing would too, but you also wish for a more...realistic game experience? Tech trading (and stealing) IS realistic. And fun. Would I ever play a game with no tech stealing? No. Never. Don't you get excited whn you see what you've stolen is? Know what they call that feeling? Fun! W
I have the same problem and it's really annoying. While the cursor may freeze, you can still move around an invisible mouse cursor, quick save the game and quit. Most astonishing part of it is that the mouse cursor is still invisible on the desktop and I've to restart the computer to get things going again. Happened to me about 5 or 6 times by now. I'll try hardware cursor next time and see if there's no problems with that any longer.
mikeswi... I guess I'm the curious sort. To get a gigantic universe over so quickly means that something is seriously broken. My guess is that somehow they are in colonize mode for the whole game. May be that could be achieved by blocking access to one single planet with 8 ships surrounding it. If the ai does not react to that, then
I've just created my first metaverse character So I just wanted to ask if anyone knows what settings count into the final score of a game. Sure galaxy size and ai levels do count in somehow. But does turning off tech trade yield more points? Or does setting your relations with the ai to friendly/hostile yield less/more points at the end? Anyone knows about the influence of
It sure relates to the military strength of the empire you just vaporised. When their military strength vanishes, other empires become more confident and declare war. That the losing empire has only few planets left is IMO not the prime cause for the other ai's declaring war on them.
I also often choose the Drath Legion. You can also buy the manufacturing capital with them right from the start. This makes it a lot easier to produce colony ships with your homeworld. Producing a colony ship every turn in the beginning is of utmost importance. This is especially helpful when you play on maps where you do not have much space to develop. On larger maps and/or few opponents, giving the manufacturing capital to your homeworld may be seen as some kind of waste, thoug
edit : sorry, doublepost, sort of
I am not playing galciv2 that long, but I'm doing quite well: Recently, I changed to suicidal difficulty and that's really hard...but after I almost won a game (just didn't play to the end) with a bit of luck, I now turned to the same settings, but without tech trade this time: Settings: Medium galaxy, 9 opponents, everything abundant, tight clusters, normal technology rate, no tech trade. Race: Drath Legion Abilities: Racial abilities + 30 economics + 10 morale + 10 tr
Thx for helping. So I just need to run the 105kb file from "Enable Collectors Edition Content only (Windows 9x/2000/XP)" after the re-install and re-patching?
Hi all, after I got through the serial number hassle (european collector's edition) I directly patched to version number 1.2. Then I got over to the collector's edition downloads. There are three different files there, the differences between them are not easily clear to me: - Galactic Civilizations II Bonus Pack - Enable Collectors Edition Content only (Windows 9x/2000/XP) - Install Galactic Civilizations II Desktop Enable Collectors Edition (Windows XP or later)<
