I think this feature is intended to give some benefit to raiding and harassing attacks that can't take over a planet, but can maybe take out some structures. It forces players to either be very sure they can protect all the structures or to build some spares unless they can accept research and production delays. The requirement for military labs to keep building cruisers can be rationalised as the labs being involved in arms production - the game reason of course is that to keep the loa

Playing against the AI the bounty game isn't too big a deal. You just put bounty on more than one AI, so that if whichever one is about to be attacked wriggles out of it by placing more bounties the cheapest option is for them to put bounty on someone other than you (at the start you just need to put 250 or 500 on two of the AI and they will then usually put bounty onto each other). I still usually end up receiving one or two pirate attacks later in the game when I'm too busy to keep go
#7 - More detailed information on what a second point into many of the techs actually does. Often there's no indication of what a second point will do (shortened cooldown, more free units? What?). Similarly for capital ship abilities where a second point doesn't change the described ability or stats at all. That number 7 is a good suggestion I think. However, with the abilities where a second point doesn't seem to chan
I had a game recently where I got a ceasefire and trade alliance with both neighbouring AI players. I don't think they were at peace with each other, because they each gave me missions to attack the other one... but they both simultaneously took big fleets to the pirate base and wiped out the pirates. I threw my ships in to help, but I think probably either AI could have cleared the pirates on their own - they were both big fleets. I was hoping they'd destroy each other afterwards, but
Well, with one of the capital ship abilities that increases enemy jump time I noticed stacking. I don't now recall whether I saw the ability stack with itself or with a fixed facility jump inhibitor.
You mention fancier diplomacy as something time consuming, but while replying to another post about diplomacy earlier on I had an idea concerning the existing AI "missions". Since the game is already keeping track of progress towards completion (X metal left to give, or X ships still to destroy) the AI could give partial credit for partial success, thus making their attitude to the player a bit more flexible. If you like the idea please also consider weighting the partial credit so that
The diplomacy is quite unlike any other game I've played, but it does work. If you look at it like a game of the ancient classic "Master of Magic" there are some similarities. The main difference is that you don't get a free choice of which AI you will court with gifts of resources. The AI will make their requests/demands and if you want an alliance you can get one if you fill the early resource demands promptly. If you aren't fast enough to start handing over resources you miss the boa
I'm enjoying the game a lot so far. I tried out worldbuilder and when I previewed the map I realised that actually meant I'd started a game... so I played it out and things went quite well. Not a great starting position, but I managed to get trade alliances with one neighbour, defeated another, got a ceasefire with the first.. then a full alliance. There was a third strong player, but I got a ceasefire and trade deal with him. The game had some oddities. There was a very large list of p
I usually try to have two in working order at all times. That's not because I really need two, although it helps get around the two-minute cooldown and the antimatter recharge time. The real reason is to make sure I don't accidentally end up without one due to enemy action just after I queue up enough new ships to use all my fleet points. That really can be a speed-bump. From time to time in a large empire I might make a third or even fourth ship if I'm expanding on two fronts or have a
The buying process was a bit complicated, but that was the only flaw. The security was of a high standard throughout the transaction and there is no requirement to let them keep the credit card number for future purchases... which might otherwise be of some concern to your father. Bottom line, it is safe for him to buy you the game with a credit card.
I struggled somewhat to get it with a totalgaming.net subscription, but I did succeed using a credit card. They'd also have accepted paypal and probably a major debit card would work too. The absolutely critical thing that no-one mentions is that the email address you use to buy a totalgaming.net subscription must match the one for the stardock.net account you want to use the game on. Changing the addresses to match once you realise the problem is not good enough - you end up needing so
My computer was in the process of installing the previous version when this update was released, and it got stuck on extracting the tutorial map (progress bar 1%, but the log showed this as the last file: Small Random Map No Pirates.galaxy_ 1 | 02/08/2008 15:58 | 808). I cancelled and restarted the installation (it had been more than an hour). I noticed the new version number, and sighed a bit at another huge download. Bandwidth caps are common in this country, and although I have an "u
Everyone who had this problem should now be fixed. There was an issue where the database was providing memberships without tokens. There still seems to be an issue when a membership is bought using a different email address from the one the account was originally opened with. Th
Health issues due to the "wifi" shirt seem very unlikely. It's just a signal strength detector and doesn't transmit at all. Whether it's a reliable indicator of whether you can get a wifi connection I can't say, but I don't see any technical reason why the shirt can't look cool. A person with chemical sensitivities should obviously take a deeper look, but really, if you have that kind of health condition you have to get used to keeping an eye on things like coloured dyes. Such condition
