I've observed that with a research bonus, you get an increase in tech costs with every completed tech. For me with a 5% Research bonus, I had a 5% increase in research costs every time I finished one. Perhaps someone else can measure it to confirm this. I've stopped playing. This was in addition to the doubling that happens after you research selected techs. You're mileage may very.

I had the same issue with CTD but it crashed directly after the Dread Lords announcement, not the turn after.
Fleet Battle Tactics has gone from 2226 to 15495 (almost 700%). I believe I got a tripling of costs when I completed Invention Cities (Yor). Unlike the game where I had a 5% bonus and the costs increased mildly after every completion, here I get tremendous jumps after selected techs, but no increase after most techs. What's the point in reseaching the Research Tree when you get a change of magnitude in costs for an incremental change in ability? I'd like to load an autosave to
Inflation made dealing with the Pirates Event incredibly hard. It took forever to research up to their level, both in real time and game time. A lot of smashing on the turn button then waiting while the game sequences through the pirates' attacks. The AI never reached a tech level to kill a single pirate ship. It spent all effort on military production, building fighters with 10 attack no defense, then getting them wiped out while in orbit. I get a kick when the Altarians IM me to l
Inflation makes the Creativity bonus all that more important. I now plan my research to make an end-run of those branches which don't inflate costs before hitting the inflationary ones. Of course, game dynamics don't always make this strategy viable. Also, it seems without a research bonus the costs don't inflate as much. It is easy to finish a game now without needing to research beyond Medium Hulls since the AI rarely gets beyond that. I imagine all the AI races are scratc
I notice that not all tech completions result in inflation. It would be nice to know which ones do so I can research a weapons branch before it gets too expensive. It really does bog down the AI races, though.
Has anyone found a way around this problem? This is my third game and the second one that I've noticed tech inflation. Could it be related to taking a research bonus while spending your ability points? Advanced Miniaturization increases 51-52 pts each time I complete a tech. I took a 5% research bonus at the start and I see Adv Min costs 1000 pts initially. A bug associated with the bonus could account for the inflation (5% of 1000 is 50). The other game I played with research inflation wa
I can't get "critical mass" infrastructure to compete with the AI with the few low-quality planets available. How do I roll back to a previous version?
