Why bother making a custom ship? Just have the mines cleared automatically after you have control of the planet (and there are no remaining enemy forces that are not mines). Have the clearing process start slow and accelerate.
I've unchecked all the options in Stardock's mailing list management page (which is linked from the bottom of the emails) but I still get emails regarding Galatic Civilizations 2 and its expansion. What do I have to do to get off your mailing list?!
As for the locking up problem I had that too with my computer and I found that if you copy the cd's onto the hard-drive and run setup.exe it runs (although it still takes a long time to load compared to most setup programs I have run).
