It's wierd, but when I was 10/10/80 on the sliders (mainly research) and focused a large planet on social production, and I replaced my factories with neutrality learning centers, my social production was actually increasing (allowing me to build them even faster). It seems that focusing actually takes a percentage from the other areas and uses it directly. For example, even if I had no factories or production, if I had 200+ research and I focused on production, it would take like 80 from resear

I've gotten out of some sticky situations by building a super-powerful ship that I can't really afford and using the resulting diplomatic advantage to ally with the civs that would have otherwise destroyed me. Apparently if you've got the tech and you build a huge maxed out ship then it can improve relations from "hostile" all the way to "friendly" over a few turns. Of course, I was -30000 BC for awhile. lol

I am aiming at giving the player lots of choices for managing resources and information in the game without having to micromanage everything. Someone who is new to the game isn't penalized really for not knowing all the game mechanics, but someone who learns them well can do things more efficiently. That's just a way of saying "easy to learn, but hard to master". As long as there are many choices for interacting with the environment, resources, and other players, I suppose it retains a lot of it

There would definitely be grouping among players. I am still thinking about whether the "normal game universe" allows players to fight each other or if it's everyone against the invading aliens. Of course, there is the option to allow diplomacy between factions of humanity and various aliens for more dynamic gameplay. GalCiv 2 benefits greatly from more complex diplomatic interactions than most games of its kind. In order to prevent disruption of the normal game, I thought about making

That's good to know. I was thinking: make some cheap ships with one weapon and one defense and they all get pumped up with the starbases. Research starbase assist techs to the max and then if you are playing defensively don't worry about all the time to get real weapons and armor until you have an advantage. Going to test this vs. the AI. Also wondering if I can have a fleet protecting a planet without the Orbital Defense upgrade (the special building)? No matter how many ships I build,

I've been trying to explore different MMOGs to discover why people put in enormous time and energy to playing these games. I've found that I get bored very quickly with them, which causes me to ask myself what makes a game fun in the first place (for me at least). My opinion is based on my own way of enjoying games, so I'm not trying to invalidate other's sense of fun. Rather, I am wondering what I would want from an MMOG to actually pay a monthly fee for it. I would say that World of W

Question: Do attack/defense bonuses stack when combat occurs under the influence of multiple military starbases, or is only the highest bonus taken? (The answer should be put in the Wiki I think under "Military Starbase").

I found in version 1.3 that the game crashes a lot when loading or starting a campaign map (almost every time when I continue to the next map without restarting). Sometimes it also happens mid-game but I can't reproduce it. I went back to 1.2 and the problem doesn't happen at all. Unfortunately, I get no error messages when it happens to help in debugging (hard crash)
