Insurance is a bit of a scam. They're like mobsters but instead of threatening you directly they just hope that you'll never need to use it - and the odds are in their favor. If you and your wife are healthy and have no children, drop the insurance and put that money in savings. Make sure you correctly fill out your W4 so the least amount is taken out and put even more in savings. Instead of letting the state borrow it, you'll have more control over your income and are able to generate

When I run DA, start a new game and check the personality tabs I can modify the CPU usage as if the Max CPU box is not checked. When I go into options, then start a new game, I cannot modify the CPU usage. It always reverts to 100%.

In my options I have the Force Max CPU box ticked. If I run the game, start new game, choose opponents and go to thier personality tab, the CPU slider is at 0% for every opponent. If I back out and go to options, then click main menu/new game and check the personality tabs, the CPU sliders will be at 100%. Is the Force Max CPU box or Options broken?

Elasticity: Ya, my idea involves civilization having ups and downs. That's my biggest problem with most TBSs. I only ever go up, with speed bumps, or go crashing down. The effect of this situation is that it's hard for a player to swallow a loss. I think most players put most of their forces into the important battles, unlike the dumb AI. Therefore, after losing a major battle (or two) you know the AI(s) are just going to crush you from

When you conquer a civ, the race should remain the same, with mixed in population. Age of Wonders works a bit like that. When you take over a city, the native race remains and they can revolt if you don't leave troops there to keep them down. You can build that race's units or migrate your own race (or a friendly race if I recall correctly).

I like asteroids just fine. The mining ship is free and I can usually trade for mining tech. I've never researched mining or extreme colonization techs, if the AI gets it I'll get it eventually.

I too would like to see individual espionage sliders work like they did in Dread Lords (by race) while your total espionage spending is used for buying agents. This seems like a straight forward solution that would please everyone.

1) DA will find your current installation and update it. You can even revert to Dread Lords by clicking the 'Switch Chapter' button on the DA frontend. 2) CE jewelry is now standard, it's all there. 3) There will be a new GC2DarkAvatar folder under \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Games. Copy your old ship designs from My Games\GalCiv2\ships and put them in My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\ships. The few that I transfered work fine. Did you know you can get a $10

you can prevent the AI from reacting strongly enough to your attempt at a victory simply by allying with it. An alliance should slow the reaction, sure, but when you're ally's trying to screw you and win the game without you it's time to react. My allies are winning with me, on the way to a diplomatic victory! <br

I'm perpetually surprised at how willing the AI to simply let me win a research or culture victory, despite having a superior economy and military. Under those circumstances, I just don't understand why it doesn't come after me, guns blazing, as soon as it sees that I'm trying to win. That's exactly what happened to me yesterday. I thought I had a research win in the bag but the Drengin and Yor got togethe

Check their stats pages in the foreign policy screen, and see what all of their intelligences say they are set to in-game. This reminds me of something. When I start a new game and go to race personality, the CPU slider is all the way down despite having checked Force Max CPU. If I back out and go to options to confirm that Force Max CPU is checked, return to new game/personality tab, the slide

In my current game, tiny fighters with phasors let me put some early hurt on the Drengins. No one has researched any defenses yet and I traded for all my military tech. As another poster mentioned, I also use tiny empty hulls as decoys.

I have a space station built on an influence resource. 1) I accidentally hit enter while the name field was blank and now I can't rename the station. 2) Every time you click on the station it grows jewelry.

I haven't upgraded to DA yet but I like the following: Gigantic galaxy Rare stars Occasional planets Uncommon habitable planets (that might be common planets/occasional habitable, can't remember) Rare anomalies Tough or higher difficulty Minor races on Normal tech all 9 races OR 5-6 chosen randomly with blind exploration on
