The spies are just one more thing thrown into the mix to keep it interesting and never the same twice. It gives the player another way to change the strategy they decide to play the game with. I like that its simple and not something i have to give too much thought to. i dont want to spend 20 minutes working my spies. I agree with this and it is always good to see the devs throw something else in to spice it up. You might have been a little bit 'extreme
Evil Stormbringer
Are you guys serious? When saving a game let's assume you let the computer name it... new... now play a turn and save the game again. This time click your mouse in front of the 'new' name and press delete until all the letters are gone (delete acts like the backspace button in this game, at least for me). Now you should be able to name it anything you want and then hit save. You will now see your 'original', 'new' named game AND your 'renamed' game save. I might not have described the process p
I've never really commented on the spy system used in DA since it didn't mean much to me. Never planned on using them and never have used them... until I played a few games with the Mega-Events turned on. The event that places spies all over the place really, really sucks bad. My first time, being new to the event, I sat back and wondered WTF!?! Once I realized what was going on and how to 'fix' it I was off to espionage land. Let me tell you, this event is a pure joke. Wasted my time and my re
I just found it. Thanks, Evil Stormbringer. Glad to help. Now I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
How are we forcing our culture on them? I guess I should have chosen my words a little better, or at least collected my thoughts enough to comment with some intelligence. What I think I should be saying instead of 'culture' is 'capitalism', or what I like to plainly classify as 'Reaganomics' since it was during the 'reign of Ronnie' that corporate and pri
To me, they are crazy people who hold very little value on life. What has formed this opinion for you? Media coverage perhaps? You do of course realize that they may actually hold life very near and dear to their little hearts, just like you and I, right? I believe that 'some', not all, of these so called 'crazy' people have just resorted to all that they have left. They do not wish to be oppressed. They do not wish to have another culture thrust upon t
I noticed that contrary to the games description, there are actually LESS ship components to choose from. Example, even the ship's lights are not available anymore, as well as a whole bunch of stuff. Maybe I'm just crazy (LOL) or maybe this design bit is actually a regression in Dark Avatar. Does anyone have any explainations or tricks in tinkering with the games system to change this? What the devil are you talking about? DA added tons of new stuff to
When making a ship with 100+ pieces of jewelry it gets really annoying to place a piece on your ship and then scroll through all the stuff you put on so that you can get to the piece you just added so you can tweak its alignment. I know you can technically just click on the piece, but in complicated designs this is still quite frustrating. All I have to say to this is, YEAH! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Congrats.gif" border=
I had my page file on a physically different drive than my system drive, my D: drive, and hard set to 3072Mb. So I am assuming that you have more than one hard drive, correct? If not, then how the heck did the virtual memory go to a 'different' drive? Just have to ask since I'm pulling out my hair trying to get a stable running game.
Try getting a 256mb video card, and bumping your virtual memory up. [Lieutenant] [Second Place Empire] [Over 5 Battles] [Neutral] [Tough] Ummmmm, I don't think this is going to fix the issues here. One GB of physical RAM, a page file set to 4096, and a 7600GT graphics card should be more than enough. Maybe it's like Cari says, about the planet surfaces. But enough from the "raise your virtual memory and get a better graphics card" crowd. The help i
After thinking about this a bit (and about seven technician's and their parts later), could it be that the Muslim faith is more or less 'fighting' our attempts to bring the western way of life, i.e. video games, Starbuck's, designer clothing, Hollywood, et cetera, et cetera... Capitalism. Is this what they are fighting against? If so, then by all means, we should stop trying to introduce our 'culture' (more like lack thereof, but that's my opinion) to them. I give the Islamic faith credit
Yes it is apparant that the Islamic faith causes considerable intollerance of other faiths and ways of life, however most other religions are not like that today Here is the part that I guess I am 'missing' in a global scope. If the Islamic faith is so 'intolerant' of other religious practices, okay and so what. Are they truly trying to spread Islamic beliefs all across the world? My perception of these events was that it was 'contained' to the areas w
Maybe we should present that to the UN, and let the blue-helmet peacekeepers keep score. You realize of course that you would get about the same action (or lack thereof) that we get from the UP in this game if we did that. I know, it sounds harsh to say, "let them all kill themselves", but what else can one do? Diplomacy gets us nowhere fast, especially with our country's lack of skill when attempting to do so. Sending in the troops pretty much alie
Yea i know the media and the democrats keep telling us how unsafe we are now, and how a BIG attack is just around the corner, been hearing that for years now. Well, the powers that be are busy trying to decide what type of 'event' they would like to unleash on us. I myself believe they're going to use the old 'dirty nuke' scenario, most likely in a shipping port. For you see, once this happens then the inevitable 'police state' will most likely go
By contract, Evil effectively doesn't have a weapons bonus when all the techs are researched. True, but evil does get some decent weaponry early to mid game, thus allowing you to get the edge on your enemies with less research effort.
Good essentially gets the shaft. Which of these you prefer is up to you. Well let's hope people prefer the first two vs. the third option! Yes, as Mumblefratz pointed out, evil is the way to go. I myself have never played as anything but custom race/evil alignment. So many weapons, so many bonuses... would it make sense to be anything else but evil
Haven't you gotten a broadband connection at home or is that still a problem for you? [If you could only see me sticking out my tongue at the computer... ] No, I finally broke down and actually got a 'paid' sub for online service at home (seems AOL finally caught on to my little 'free trials'... after a two year cat and mouse game of course! )but it's still
The difference is, Israel gets away with it, because it's political suicide for any politician to say anything about it. The politicians may not want to, anyway--every rookie Congressman gets a free trip to the Holy Land where they get to meet with politicians there, on Israel's dime (~$50,000 per trip). In turn, Congress votes in a $6 billion-a-year "aid package" in free taxpayer money we give them every year, and the cycle continues. What the media does NOT
I tried the cachmanXP remedy with GC2, it seemed okay for a while then went back to crashing out of memory, so all it did was give me a small reprieve. Sorry to hear this. I personally 'endorse' FreeRAM XP which has a better look and feel to it than cacheman XP, and it it totally free, no trial versions with this one (although they do ask that you 'donate' but that's as far as it goes). I will admit that I still had one or two crashes on larger games to
raq is not the product of either the Democrats or the Republicans. It is the product of the Israeli lobby, who is pulling the strings on both parties and all the presidential candidates. Now you're talking my language! Bravo to you for being a voice of reason... but now you might be able to be considered a conspiracy nut yourself for voicing that one!
But, see, here is the opportunity that we have, as did the Romans and the British Empire. If we are the only superpower, then can we shape the world into and enlightened, peaceful society? I think that is what we are trying to do in Iraq, even though we are failing. Maybe this is an impossible task, but I think it is worth attempting. The problem, of course, is that we are imposing our vision and our will on the rest of the world and that doesn't go over well.
So, in a sense, Vietnam lead to a American victory. ...Oh, I can just hear Stormbringer's keyboard clacking away... I understand that logic completely. Doesn't mean I condone the action, but I do understand the reason you say what you say. Believe it or not, my actual mindset leans towards violence and brutality, in a way, and I do not say that to boast as it is actually sad that I think that way. However, I try every day to think 'in a good wa
Couldnt we have accomplished this without losing most of our Paciffic Battleships? why were they left in port? And dont tell me thats why out carriers were out on maneuvers. Beacuse, at that time, before the war, The abattle ship was still seen as the main offensive weapon. You pose a good point with that and I will 'attempt' to answer with my opinion on why that would have been. Losing Battle Ships, although costly, I believe would have been the '
Very well said. Why not just opress the people? Thats alot easier than being all covert, and blowing up our OWN buildings. And like you said, it is indeed very absurd. Have you ever heard of the saying "Nero fiddled while Rome burned"? If not, Google it. If so, then you should know what it is all about. How about the Reichstag fire? Have you ever heard of that one? If not, search for it as well. Both events were political attempts to sway public opinion
You guys utterly amaze me at times... Marcus, nice post.
