they only were the publisher for them. I wouldn't understate our role so much. We're pretty involved with Demigod especially--Cari and a number of others are busy with the CVP/NAT Reactor stuff for the Demigod multiplayer system.
Hey Kyro, since you're here, do you have any information that would answer my questions, in whole or in part?

Yeah, I've noticed that bug as well. It's very annoying when another civ just up and surrenders with no warning-those spies are just gone. Funny thing is that as you advance through the levels (low, medium, high, advanced) they will continue to report back to you as though they (and the now destroyed empire) still exist. In addition to seeing that fixed, I was also hoping to see some of the AI tweaks that have been discussed.

It appeared to me towards the end of last year that an update for the game beyond the latest 2.02 version was going to be released. Has anyone heard or does anyone know anything to confirm or contradict my impression? If my impression is believed to be correct, does anyone have any information when that new version might be released?

I believe tech costs for TOA were, in general, increased. That said, what tech tree are you playing? Has it been changed since before you noticed this effect? I ask because, for example, I believe the Arcean tech tree has relatively higher costs compared to others. This is, if I recall correctly, to play to the backstory the developers wanted which was that the Arceans were not the best of researchers.
Well the point I was thinking of was in the hopes that for GC3 they might implement the tech tree in a slightly different way to make sure the AI's actually research weapons and defenses. Or just implement a better AI researching code. Because now, in my suicidal game, the Thalans have not researched a single weapon or defense tech, and the game is 2.5 years in. I gave them laser 1 and some cheap armor piece just to help them out, but they still aren't researching anything higher, so I

Cargo hulls, which are available from the beginning of the game, only have 1 hit point. They are not intended to be used as combat ships, but instead are usually used as freighters, constructors and space miners. Tiny, small, medium, large and huge hulls are the combat platforms and have more than one hitpoint. You start the game with tiny hulls. You must research "interstellar construction" or its equivalent to get small hulls. You must research Advanced Hulls a

I choose my weapons-type by determining what the AI is using and picking the type that is not being used or is being used by the least number of the AI. Often, I find that all or the majority of the AI will pick the same weapon-type so that makes my choice rather easy. The reason I do this is that the AI will also tend to develop defenses against the most common weapon type so my choice will result in the least developed defenses. There are exceptions of course and this

I'm not sure I've had the Peacekeepers since 2.02 either so I can't answer your question. I can say that the Peackeeper event always was less common than some of the others in my experience. I see the Jagged Knife and the Dread Lords quite a bit more often than the Peacekeepers or the Mega-Pirate Event, which is somewhat similar.

I don't mean to pile on but the latest example of this just took the cake. In fact, it was so egregious that I had to check to make sure the Drengin intelligence level had not been reset to a lower level than the difficulty level I was playing. The game was set on masochistic and I ended up right next door to the Drengin. It was mid colony rush and I had already found a healthy little cluster of planets surrounding my home system. After exploring all of the immediately

That should be the latest version. I would advise sending in the appropriate files to the developers. There is a "bug reporting" sticky thread somewhere around here. Another option is to uninstall and then reinstall the game.

8 Replies 6,581 Views

I experienced several of the described problems on older versions of the game (the "disappearing turn button," out of memory crashes and the pathfinding problems), but honestly have not seen them around for a long time (since the last series of Betas). Are you (the OP) playing the latest version of the game?

I regularly have the AI donate ships to my cause I believe one of the criteria is that I am in a war and the AI against which I'm matched has a superior military (on paper) rating. Another set of criteria seems to be the donating AI either is hostile to the AI I am fighting or likes me or both. I believe I run into this because I rarely build huge fleets and thus ferequently am rated very low militarily. Still, giving me a Precursor Ranger was a first for me and then to

13 Replies 11,001 Views

Just to clarify, the Korx did not offer to sell their Ranger, they simply gave it to me without any request whatsoever. They stated it was to support my "valiant" struggle against some other player. If I recally correctly, that other player was not at war with the Korx and presented no threat to them.

I just had another game where the Drenin left a PQ 8 planet uncolonized for the whole game. The planet was in a corner sector neighboring one of their colonized planets. It was well within range of even the most short range colony ship. I didn't discover it until after I conquered the Drengin's last planet. Of course, I promptly colonized it. This was on crippling difficulty, and just to give an idea of how long this planet was left uncolonized, a

My only problem with that is that sometimes it makes for a game that just goes on too long. That's one reason I use such scarce planet settings-it helps keep the games from becoming one long mop up operation. I can see why the Altarians surrendered when they did-they had no fleet with weapons and were about to be invaded. It was just a matter of comparing their military rating to my own and the flipped. The more important question is, why did neither the Altari

Did you conquer any minor races prior to this happening? Doing that seems to be a trigger for this event in my experience.

I recently had a game where I discovered two uncolonized habitable (not extreme environment) planets in a corner system at a stage of the game where I was using Quantum Drivers and Huge Hulled Ships, i.e., the late, late game. What empire were they behind? The Drengin, of course. In fact, the Drengin were the only race even remotely in range of those two juicy (did I mention that one was a PQ 13 and the other was a PQ 9) planets for the vast majority of the game because of t
Are you sure you're playing the latest 2.02 version? Because I haven't seen any gamebreaking bugs or CTDs for quite a while. The exploitable bug I found trading influence comes darn near close, IMHO.
What patch? Let me preface by saying that I think TA is a great game. That said, here's yet another example of downright dumb behaivor on the part of the AI. I've seen other examples of this kind of behavior discussed on this forum and witnessed it myself, but not this particular series of events. (In case someone asks, the game parameters were as follows: Crippling Difficulty, Immense Galaxy, Rare Inhabitable Planets, Uncommon Planets, Rare Suns, Occasional Extreme Planet
I don't have TA yet, but in first two games DL and DA, a lot of the time I declared war on the Korx and they surrendered between one week and five weeks . My friend was playing DA, he declared war on the Korx, who were on the other side of the galaxy, and in one click, they surrendered. So, I do agree with you, the Korx suck!
I've had this odd surrender behavior in TA as well. The Korx, despite having a generally healthy empire, will just surrender

I'll agree with some of the earlier posters that the Arcean AI seems to still have problems. That said, I can play with the stock Arcean race on crippling difficulty level and still win against nine other AI. Of course, that includes having a good homeworld on which I can site the Stellar Forge. Without that advantage, it becomes very difficult. While we're discussing AI problems, I still note that on 2.02 the Drengin and the Yor are not expanding well. They are

I'm not sure they were able to implement the Cathedral to give the civilization wide soldiering bonus for some reason. I recall there was some information from the Devs that they were trying to do something different with this building, but I don't know what that was or if it was ever actually implemented.

Oh yeah, I was able to play on after I reloaded the game. Ultimately however, I did not finish the game. This was quite an odd event, but I agree that it appears some part of the file became corrupted for some reason or another. Another interesting aspect was that the small Peacekeeper ships continued to have the same number of hit points as battleship sized hulls, but were armed oly with a single laser.

Playing TOA V 2.0 (I know 2.01 is now out there) and had the Peacekeeper event. As usual, the Peacekeepers were numerous and operated relatively heavily-armed battleships. Then a strange thing happened. First, I noticed a fleet of Peacekeepers that were not battleships, but instead were small hulled ships. I thought nothing of it at the time because I figured that perhaps the Drath (they had Drath ship appearance) had sold the Peacekeepers some small ships. Sever
