To expand on your #5., I wouldnt say myself the problem is the weapons are "too expensive", but that at the lower and even middle end, there all pretty much useless except as stepping stones to the ones that actually matter..ie the end weapon techs. The dont scale well at all. The way the game is structured now, you can completely bypass easily over......90% of the offered weapon techs and it hardly affects gameplay at all. Even on suicidal setting I rarely, if ever b

I think you missed the point. There is nothing forceing an ally to attack another ally. The issue is how the DoW effects the ally STATUS. For us refuseing to go to war, it breaks the alliance. To repeat. Between AI players, not comeing to my aid does maintains the alliance between them...see?

Is this just another AI cheat or a bug? Situation: Whenever an AI ally gets attacked as we all know, they ask you to honor the alliance. If you dont, alliance is over-fine. I was playing a game where I was ally to 1 the remaining powers and Cool to the other. However the 2 AI empires were ALLY to each other. The cool faction did an OOB declaration of war on me. My ally did not offer to come to aid by declaring war on the aggressor. What I found anno

340 MB of misc updates and fixes?...ok. Lets just hope this fixes the crash-fest that is CGII. As for the acerans, if they werent all that good an colonizing, it was hardly a game-breaker. the other AI powers more than make up for it....

Your Galciv 2 series is spectacularly unstable fyi. Its full of memory leaks, games lock up to the point no further progess is possible, if it can go wrong, your titles do it. Even after shutting down after a rare-crash free session its almost always required to reboot windows. Even after your game shuts off it is more than capable of affecting the entires windows system preformance(yes., in a negative way). If by FTl warfare you mean > Ships travel to destination then slow down to manageable speeds, say 1-3g constant acceleration or less, thats actually how Sins combat is modeled, as well as the example I mentioned above works. Your FTL drive gets you there, then you use conventional engines to fight with, this would be by necessity (imagine trying to dogfight in the atmosphere at say, mach 12 and you see what I mean). If you mean superluminal combat in 'normal' space then no..thats off. Additional

Wormholes are not forbidden by either general relatativly or special relativity. The issues around wormholes are primarly keeping them a) stable and b) open. From E=mc^ , the positive means that space time is warped in a positive(+) manner. A wormhole would require space to have negative energy and curvature. This requiries what scientists call 'exotic matter' material with negative matter, energy and exerts a graviatinal push as opposed to pull...dark matter perhaps?. However at this point, the

Doh Sorry HF ;p One of the best examples of Non-FTL No Handwavium space warfare in my library is S.M. Stirlings , The Stone Dogs. 3rd book of the series, a number of fairly detailed examples of plausible space warfare between the 2 world superstates, The Domination of the Draka and the Western-Based Alliance for Democracy. Dont have to read the 1st 2 there set in the 1940-1950 era, unless you like the story line.

You cant argue against studied deliberate ignorance like that being displayed by Bob, hes the sort of person that probably thinks the earth is flat and 4000 years old as well. The point being made, and maybe its just far to subtle is....wait for it Homework wants to know where things stand as far as FTL Travel communications and so on goes. Since FTL travel implies time travel, that makes all of his queries well..moot. It of course follows that > FLT travel would be useless as a form of

One minor quibble over point#1. FTL travel is NOT a prerequisite for space warefare. The fact that is allready been studied by various goverments allready should put that one to rest. As for the the balance of points 1-4, the biggest single problem with FTL is not so much pratical as one particular theoretical problem that manifests itself for values greater than c. It was recognized fairly early on that Once C was exceeded, time would reverse itself and this raises all sorts of awkward probl

O nos, its the attack of the Handwavium brigade :p . Armed with the best psudeo-science the innerweb can buy!(Actually I blame Star Drek). While there is nothing wrong with space battles in the realm of fantasy, after all there is a huge industry built around it(includeing this game hehe), the thread is devoted to 'real' space combat. The old cannard of 'Future tech will make your rational and well thought out assumptions totally irrelvant is the classic retort of the psudeo-science club. But,

Yes Space fighters of the future could have multiple functions. The the small clouds of debris from all there vaporized wreckage floating near the ship that launched them could act as a form of 'chaff' (ironically) helping somewhat reduce the effectivness of any follow up laser hits. (Though the small debris clouds and frozen corpses they leave will do nothing whatsoever to mitigate Nukes or Say X-Ray lasers) Or alternately they could act as decoys for the several minutes it would take to track

If you mean by theory, conjecture speculation guess etc, well, then you are most likely wrong. There is nothing even at this point 'theoretical' about Lasers, masers Particle beam weapons, Fusion weapons, Rail Guns, missles, superconductive materials, etc. Our scientists and tecnichians at this point understand the principles behind pretty much all the underlying concepts needed to make space warfare possbile. Many of the technologies required are questions of engineering now, not of theory, and

When considering what Space warfare would actually be like as opposed to how its presented in popular fiction one has to consider a few basic concepts first 1) What would a space navy’s primary role actually be? The answer to this should be quite obvious; the only objects of any 'true' value are habitable planets. Oxygen, water worlds (are) of immense value and any space navies primary strategic priority would be to defend said worlds from orbital bombardment invasion etc. Seco

Ah yes, I see now that there basically 'npc' factions. At this point im still learning how the game plays out. I Imagine the AI has to clear these 'npc' AI just like I have to, however I will freely admit I am(at least for the time being), not able to expand anywhere near as rapidly as the AI does. Or to put another way, Im sure the AI spreads more efficently than I do, and I suspect the advantages pretty much every 4x game gives the AI means the npcs are much less of an impediment for them tha

Can anyone here explain what gameplay purpose is served in this game by haveing (some) units AI *always* camping out in every.....single..... unclaimed star system when you start a new game?. Now, im pretty sure every single 4X game ive ever owned or played does NOT have a random assortment of hostile enemies camped out right next door to your starting base. ATM I am playing maps with no pirates, yet every star has (Always Hostile) enemies in large or small #'s that have to be cleared o

Meathead is no better with his....gee did you load an previous saved game? No retard, there all current from start to finish. Here , why dont we try this with you. Well, this may not be exactly what your going through, but I love it when One race declares war on *me*, when Im mostly neutral or luke warm to most civ's. Next thing you know, they all start issuseing chain DoW's on your *** becasue im at 'war' with there friend.......the....agressor. Now of course it makes perfect sense for 1/2 the galaxy to declare war on me just because one of them attacks me for no good reason and im the 'bad' guy. Its hard to make seperate peace with the original agressors

I havent seen this one yet, Atm I have rather the opposite problem, right now the Drengrin's Heavy fighters and Frigate class ships are easily destroying squadrons of my Top-of the Line Dreadnaughts, 125+ Weapons 30-40 on all 3 defences. There ships use Black-Hole Eruptors(of course). My equivalent to there frigate is the Flanker-X, which is weapons in the 80ish range 20 to all 3 defences, they are usually to first to go, and my dreads might last a little longer, There dreadnaughts seem to be ab

3 things I noticed 1) Graphics Glitch in ship design. Was building a Medium class ship and when I saved it-it changed into a Large Hull graphic and pretty much stayed that way. When one of them was destroyed, you could see the original medium class base graphic fly apart-odd. 2) The current game Im playing had the dengrins somehow end up with pretty much the entire tech tree fairly early on, probably got it all from one of the minor races. Anyhow-despite being at war with me th

What is it about you that breeds such massive ignorance citizen? Do you understand that opinions without facts are even less than worthless? Thats where you lie in the grand scheme of things. IE less than worthless. For your feelble mind to digest Fact Game hung [email protected] still doing it [email protected] . Not exactly Sure if this qualifies as a 'bug' or not-But here it is. In the Battle of the Gods Scenario The AI tends to build, ok WAY overbuild Tech improvements on its planets. Up to 30% or even higher in fact. The AI has not be programed to dis-regard tech improvments, which would make some sort of sense since they are absolutely of no value in this senario, yet they practically fill there tiles with them(much like a regular game) And in case the above doesnt 100% qualify as a 'real'
