Does the AI do leases? I play my games at the tough level. At the end of the game summary screens come up that recap the game. One of the items shown is how much has been spent on leases. In my games, I've never seen the AI having spent anything on leases.

1) Sent the SmartException log - was not aware that anything beyond that was needed. 3) Debug.err is long gone - Will send it next time if the problem occurs again altough I expect that this is a rare event.

Since downloading the latest version of DA --- 1) After playing game for a while, went to the Diplomacy Screen and right clicked on a Dhrengin ship to see the Intelligence Screen - program threw an exception - dump info was sent to Stardock. 2) After loading a saved game, noticed that the Timeline Charts no longer go to the right edge - they only go about 2/3 of the way. 3) Was playing a little while ago and while the AI was taking its turn, a grey bar came up in the b

Some thoughts on tech trading --- In addition to taking differences in diplomacy levels into account, it seems that the game could fairly easily take into account the relationship level of each race as well. It seems odd that I can often get a better deal for a tech with a race that's hostile towards me than one that's friendly towards me when the diplomacy level differences are about the same for both. Also, the game should also take into consideration how much research effort

I usually play on the larger size galaxies with abundant anomalies. I've been using cargo hulled survey ships for a long time. I usually build 3 or 4 as soon as I can and just let them go. When a ship closes in on a star system I am interested in, I will take it out of auto survey mode to see what habitable planets are in that system and, when done, put it back into auto survey. I am not hurting for colony ships since I can usually find enough money to build them in a single turn.

I play at the tough level and in my games my diplomacy level is usually at or near the top. And, I usually play with slow or very slow research rate settings. With the most recent patches however, I have seen my trading ability really take a big, big drop, even with races over which I have "an incredible advantage". I now often can't even get a tech from them that would only cost me one or two weeks research! It makes me think that in setting up a new game, I should move my optional points away

When I bring up the Treaties Screen and click on the various race logos, I am shown a list of the state of the relationships the selected race has with all the other races - EXCEPT when I click on MY logo - then I am shown nothing.

Am playing my first game on the recently released DA. 1) What happened to the planet tile bonuses? I am playing on a gigantic map and not one of my 30-40 planets have any tile bonuses. The Beta had plenty. 2) There is a pointer on the map that shows to which tile ships will exit from a planet. Is there a way to change to which tile the ship will exit? 3) This one was previously reported in the forums but is worth mentioning again. A launched ship does not get the focus

A quick question --- in all the DA games I've played, once I make an alliance with an AI race, I've NEVER had them break it (unless you don't come to their aid if they are attacked). Are there other conditions that will make them break the alliance? Also, I've never had the AI offer me an alliance (or a treaty for that matter).

1) When running DA, from time to time the program collapses to the taskbar for no apparent reason. I've never seen this happen with GalCiv2. When I click on the taskbar, the program resumes. Anyone else seen this behavior? 2) In the current game I am playing, Medium size galaxy, 3 tough opponents, late in the game, I am getting periodic hangups. This happens after I press the TURN key while the game is playing out the turn. The turn never finishes - there is no crash. I can press the ES

Set up a game yesterday where I used white as my interface color choice. Whenever I settle a new planet a screen comes up allowing me to change the planet name. In this screen both the text and its background are white, so I am typing blind. Also, in the past, I have selected colors which, on the minimap, turned out to be the same as that of one of the random AI players - making it impossible to distinguish our boundaries since our two races happened to be adjacent. Any way to prevent t

A comment or two on using or not using scout ships --- The AI seems to like using a lot of them. If you set up your games using abundant planets and abundant habitable planets there is less need to use scouts (or even stellar cartography) - most every star you go to is likely to have a good planet to settle on. I like to use uncommon habitable planets to make the game more interesting for me - and that's why I hate to see the AI go right to the plum planets. Instead of

Survey ship was cruising through picking up resources - was not parked. Terran survey ship was off on the other side - don't know about their scouts. It was still pretty early in the game - everyone only had about 3 planets at the time. Scout ships could do it for them but with uncommon habital planets they would need about a 800% luck factor.

Started a new DA Beta game yesterday - huge galaxy, abundant planets, uncommon habitable planets, 5 random AI, all tough. Had a survey ship just outside the Terran's territory. Saw a group of 3 Terran colony ships heading away from Earth. They went through a cluster of class 8/9 planets completely ignoring them and disappeared into the void. Later found that all 3 had settled on class 10+ planets at what would have been near the extent of their range. What does the AI know that I don't

Was playing last night and the (large galaxy, five AI - all tough, slow tech) and the event happened to me, too. They took 26 planets in all - 8 from me - 4 of them above PQ10, one of them a PQ 26 that was building the Eyes of the Universe - also a smaller planet that was an economic powerhouse (fully built with every square a trade building pumping out a lot of cash). And, up to that point in the game no one was building up a military - everyone just expanding and developing. Can anyone top tha

I see from the change list for Beta 2 that Range is no longer unlimited. However, the descriptions shown for this special ability when setting up a new game still say unlimited range - both specific race and custom race. (Just a reminder to not forget about the descriptions when tweaking the special abilities.)

When you are putting defenses on a ship try to maximize their efficiency, too. For example when defending against beams with shields, put 1 (or 4, or 9) units on the ship. Then they will give you 1 (or 2, or 3) units of defense against guns & missles (according to the manual pg. 46). I've seen the AI ships do this.

Being a former programmer, now retired, I can sympathize with your sense of frustration. On the flip side, however, I see the task of successfully tracking down some elusive program bug as representing a win in what is the ULTIMATE computer game. Personally satisfying, yes, but you get very little in the way of high fives, back slaps, or applause.

I understand your comments about the story parts of the game - that's why randomization/elimination of the abilities would be an option - you do not have to use them and can thereby preserve the story line. For me, replayability is the key. Once I've played the game a few times, I know what to expect when I first encounter a race in a new game - something which was not true the first time I played the game. On subsequent games, one tends to alter strategy/tactics when first meeting a ra

"C" doesn't do it - it goes to whatever happens to be the last selected item when you press that key - and most times this will not be the planet. Centering via the colony list is what I use now - but it's an extra step and annoying when you are already on the planet screen and want to view the main screen with the planet centered. By the way, on my original post, I said STATS screen when I meant COLONIES screen. I LIKE being able to jump back and forth between the COLONIES and

A couple of extra clicks and a separate screen, but it works. Thanks! I don't often go into the planet DETAILS screen so I missed it. Too bad Stardock didn't implement the rename function on the planet screen the same way they do it on the MAIN screen (just mouse over the name and click to do the rename). It's a cleaner and more intuitive way to do it.
