Just finished a game on tough where I was neutral and had a big tech lead (but smaller military and started influence flipping the big-boy on the block. By the time he was down to 4 systems, he got pissed enough to declar war but his forces crumbled to a couple huge capital ships. I haven't noticed a tax module for my economic starbases yet though, is that new? Or is it alignment restricted? PS I don't think you can really defend a system with a military starbase...

Why do star bases need to have a logistics value? Logistics imply coordination/movement, but a starbase is just going to sit there and its everyone else that needs to be coordinated around it. I don't really see a down side to putting star bases in fleets (with regards to game breaking exploits), you can't assault a planet with it or attack shipping lanes or anything else, you just open up the possibility of using the starbase defensively as they would appear to be intended. I've finally finished my first game (wee diplo victory) and I noticed that when I went to start a new game and reused my race, I had a +6% logistics bonus. I'm a tweaked terran and don't see the logistics bonus listed anywhere in the abilities screen, and I'm 99% sure base terrans don't get it (could be wrong, don't want to risk hitting a reset and losing it). Is there a bonus from somewhere else?

Alright so.. I'm sitting here at work, reading these forums and suddenly I realize my time could much better be spent finally reading the manual that came with the game (My after work time is obviously better spent playing) Is there a place I can just download the pdf manual?

Well, balanced != the same. Having one race thats say, better at ground invasions but worse at ship defense can be balanced with a race thats better at research but worse at manufacturing... but to have one race thats average, and other races that are significantly above average seems like an odd choice. Whatever, its all good. Every race seems to have the ability to make time vanish though ... I don't think I've gone to bed before 2am in a week <img src="http://images.stardoc

Good answer, Mublefratz... but... I guess the question still stands though, ARE the races balanced out somehow that I can't see? Every race gets 10 points, it seems that the races with inherent stats are just plain *better* than the races without... the starting techs seem to be about the same for the nonhumans generally, so I don't see non-inherent-stat races getting a bigger tech advantage or anything first. Am I missing something?

I just finished the campaign as well, and... well... meh. I almost gave up on it a few times but decided to finish it just for the sake of finishing it before moving on to the sandbox games. The campaign just feels really tacked onto the game, more like the first 5 missions of any RTS (ie first mission is build 2 farms, 2nd mission is build 5 villagers, 3rd mission is kill a small camp etc). Some variety would definitely have spiced up the campaign but I can understand the be

Is there a balance though, somewhere? (new too btw) Couple questions: 1. If you select some of the civs and go to reset abilities, certain civs have innate bonuses like the human +25 diplomacy. Some civs don't have any innate bonuses though, and the custom civ seems to get an innate bonus of soldiering and loyalty for some reason. Are the no-innate civs balanced out with more starting techs or something else? 2. If I select humans, then diplomacy and click on any of the o
