SkinStudio refuses to work. in WindowBlinds Stardock Forums

So I'm trying to use SkinStudio, and it just closes immediately when I try to run it. SkinStudio 8, by the way. Not sure if it has to do with the fact that I'm still running WindowsBlinds 7, but if that's the case, it's kind of annoying that there is no legacy option for SkinStudio in my downloads on this site. I'll take ugly text in one part of the design, over ruining the rest of the design any day. [e digicons];P[/e] I knew when I was designing the concept for this skin that the search areas would be problematic, as I've had trouble when experimenting with the before. But that ugly black box looked far worse than the ugly black text that's left. And adding solid search bars would have killed everything I'm trying to achieve, so that was unacceptable.

Haha! I got it to work! [e digicons]:grin:[/e] Apparently, the entire area of the search bar image needs to have pixel data... even if that data isn't visible. I made the entire image black, then lowered the opacity to 50%, flattened the layer style, and then lowered opacity again to 1%. This creates an image with transparency so light, it's literally impossible to see unless you're really looking for it... but it's still there. BUT... no more ugly black ba

Well that sucks. I want the background to remain blurred on the transparent parts, but I don't want the shine effect. Oh well, guess I have to live with it. EDIT: One other question. Is it possible to have transparent search/address bars in Windows 7? I removed the background image, but there is a weird black box where the search bar would be on the explorer windows. I'm guess this is why most people just use solid white search bars... [e digicons]

I used the most recent one. As I said, nearly up until release. It wasn't a problem with any bugs or anything like that. I just hated how invasive Metro was and I see no reason to use it. If I really wanted some pretty boxes on my desktop to display apps, I'd just use Rainmeter. There are plenty of Metro skins for it. :p

I used the public preview release for a good 6 months after it was released. Nobody can tell me that I didn't give it a shot. I greatly dislike Windows 8. I went back to Windows 7 about a month ago and I won't be buying Windows 8. It's just too inefficient on a desktop. It's meant for tablets, and that's fine, but in my opinion, they should have released a "Desktop" and a "Metro" edition of the OS... and then maybe one with both. Or at least let me completely remov

I've been having this same problem. The last two items I've tried to place on the dock (Illustrator and StarCraft 2) both vanish after rebooting. All of my other apps that I've placed have stayed put. I'm using the Windows 8 Consumer Preview and the free version of Object Dock, by the way.
