Hello all, I decided to make the move from Galciv III to IV. I'm currently in the process of making a small mod that would make Venus a colonizable "corrosive world" in the Sol System. I managed to edit the xml files properly, but I noticed that it seems to be quite difficult to edit or even view the .dds files. I wish to replace the clouds on Venus so that we would see its very thick atmosphere. Are there any modders on this forum that can help me find the appropriate tools t

Hey, I know it's been months, but I've found a way to change heightmaps for a custom planet. I always forget to take notes when I'm modding and I quickly forget how I get to do things, but here are some explanations I remember: 1. It is impossible to mod heightmaps through the mod folder. All new heightmaps must be placed in your regular game folder, where the original are. 2. The game will not recognize any new heightmaps by itself, you need to give it a little push: &nb
Good news, the /atlasgen command line has worked perfectly. And only needs to be applied once. Here are a few screenshots of my new, colonizable, Venus : I'm not so satisfied about the colors yet, but that's another line o
Could it be " genleanmaps" from this page? http://galciv3.gamepedia.com/Console_commands And is it possible to use commands on the steam version?
I've been running through the same problems while trying to modify the game recently and I wanted to bump this post up to see if anyone had found out a way to make custom heightmaps work. I can make a background image for a planet, but the continents can't show up no matter what I try. The heightmap I've made myself is located here . And below would be a picture of what show
Hey, I've been having some terrible difficulty with the continents. I've managed to upload a texture for the planet's background but no matter what I do with normal maps and alpha channels, nothing appears on the screen and the available tiles are simply scattered all around, not even touching each other. The NVIDIA tool does not work with my CC 2014 version of photoshop. Can someone help me turn a grayscale image into something that will work in game? Here
Read This And This
Thank you for the helpful links. I'll try to apply the textures after work. Now, I'm also wondering if it is possible to modify clouds as to cover the whole planet with Venus' thick atmosphere, so as to give it a different look whe
Hi everyone, I'm only getting started with modding GalcivIII and I have noticed how planets are now using many more texture, normal maps etc. to show up in game. Just as I used to do for Galciv II, I would like to add more planets to the Sol system, including Venus, Uranus and Neptune. I know there are already some maps and mods that do include these addition, but I really wanted to learn more about the image files used for the planets and how to add them in a mod. <p
Check? ... Well that didn't work! And yet I've bought the founder's edition using this e-mail address!
Theorically, a Confederation is a union of independant states without a Federal government. Therefore, all of your colonies would in be governing themselves without you to say a word. That's why I didn't choose this party.
I have lately started working on modding the political parties in Galciv 2. Although this concept is far from new and original, I wanted to get a bit of inspiration and help from you more experienced modders. My mod will replace most of the political parties and give them all more bonus abilities but also penalties, even when your party has a majority of votes. Much like in Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, no political ideology will come without flaws. I also want the p

Ok, then. Nevermind my stubbornness. So what about the movies?
Well, the first question is in the title. Wouldn't that be easier for everyone if it was the case? Also, I wanted to know if it was possible to program which movie plays for which event. Let's say I want the same cinematic to play for the dread lord mega-event than the one in the campaign, but don't want to overwrite the invasion movie, what file must I edit?
Oh, here's an other question for you experimented modders out there. Let's say I want to change the movie that plays for a major event (dread lord). For this event, the current movie is an invasion scene, the same one you see when you make your first invasion. I would like it to be the sequence that runs during the appearance of the dread lords for the dread lord campaign. So where do I change the command line that tells what movie plays for a particular event? I've managed
Great! just what I needed.
Hello! 1. Where is the .xml file containing the text for the mega-events? 2. Oh, and does anyone know where can I find a good modding guide for DA? Thank you!
Why not using the Bentusi as a somewhat powerful and rare anomaly? Once you reach one, it can give you techs you can't have otherwise, lots of RUs, [or just a random speach from an unknown and unimportant prophecy to make you really really angry?]
First of all, you must get a movie editing program.. like that piece of junk called Windows Movie Maker. Get the sequence of movie you want, mix up the sound, save it as a .wmv, and use "Rad Video tools" to convert it in .bik. You should be able to download "Bink and Smacker" which is the Rad Video tools at this URL: WWW Link Do not forget, when you convert the file, to set the right parameters for the movie. Exam
Oh great, it was right in front of me and I couldn't find it.. Nevertheless, thank you very much. Now I'll try to see what I can do with all of this!
Hi, I've started modding some of the movies (.bik files) in Galciv II lately, and I've just stumbled upon this problem with the "Researched tech" animation. You know, the one with all these robots moving their arm to show you how proud your fictional civilization is to have made new reaserch breakthroughs. It seems that to make a new animation, I must also change a picture file which represents the desk in front of which the robot is working. My English is quite bad, so I just made a ni
Any idea about when the first version of the mod will be ready? Can we have access to your forum? Can we join the modding team?
I'm wondering what models will you guys use for constructor, colony and freighter ships. Please tell me they are not as ugly as the Edward and London class. I want to see some nice federation curves.
On an other point of view, couldn't the GC2 "Carrier" just be a cargo or huge ship with a specially made module that would enable the ship to have the same effect as starbases or planets on ship range? The module could be 1.5 the size of a colony module and would let friendly fleets penetrate ennemy territory without you needing to colonize every planet in the way or build a bunch of frail starbases anyone could destroy. Just think of it as a mobile starbase with no other effec
