I'm gonna go off a bit on a tangent here and suggest something along the lines of graphics rather than features. I personally would like to see more shaders in the game. Maybe some shaded exhaust from the engines, maybe some reflections and bloom on the metal. One of the great things about shaders is that they can do all sorts of neat stuff without taking a lot of memory, since all they are are mini-programs running n the GPU. In addition, I'd like to see the lights placed on t
My God - to imagine, the shear chutzpah of writing a program that improves on or uses the features of another program. And making money off of it! You are right sir - there is no more immoral act than making money off of the backs of others in this way
Lest you forget, this is not your average, everyday productivity application. This is a game, and like any other game, there are rules. This is a game meant to be played by humans, and it is expected that an average hu
The companies are simply trying to blame their sales problems on pirates, and therefore they get excessive DRM to prevent pirates.
While I don't like DRM as a method of preventing piracy, it is true that a lot of people will ignore ethics and legalities and get a free copy of the software if it's more convenient to get the free copy than it is to get a legit copy. Yes, a lot of people will pay for a game if it's more convenient to pay rather than steal. The real
your argument is moot, it's a two way street.
It's not a street, it's a downward spiral of bad behavior. Continuing your own bad behavior while demanding the other party fixes their bad behavior won't fix anything. Why should they have the sole burden of changing behavior? Why should you be free to continue while they have to change?
A large corporation takes steps to murder everyone that does business with them because they could be spies from ot
This has to be the worst of all, total speculation how someone can claim this is beyond me.
They may not have disclosed the exact methods for obtaining the numbers to the public, but I'm sure that in court they did indeed show that their methods are not "mere speculation."
So they are assuming that all these subscribers that were to damn lazy to play the game and cheated would have played it for seven more months with out Glider?
I don't
Here's another thumbs up for the download statusbar. Great addon. :CONGRAT:
This is 2008, we're not exactly living in an enlightened age of altruism and morality. Hell, we're not even moving in that direction, rather the opposite.
. . . all the more reason to stand up for morality and altruism. Isn't it time we started moving in the right direction, and started encouraging people to act morally?
For treating everyone as a customer and not a criminal.
On the other hand, and I know this isn't a popular opinion in this thread, I don't see the harm this causes other players.
Even though it's a game, yes, it does have an economic system. A bot can easily give the bot user a competitive advantage in the economic system that no human can ever have. By the way, the real point is not the damage it causes to other players, but rather the damage it causes to Blizzard. The damage it causes to other players is a s
How do you guys get Japanese characters to show correctly? That seems to be still having problems for me.
Check your fonts, make sure they are installed correctly.
Firefox 3, good browser but i am surprised that no one has said anything about the lack of skins and plugins for FIrefox 3?
Because I didn't notice too much. Most of them seem to be working fine.
I am really surprised that they didn't work on updating the skins
I'll spell it out to you again: A rational individual will choose the option that gives them the most utility.
This is utilitarianism, and it's debatable as to whether it is the best rational philosophy. I would say, however, that it's a lot better than the "pure selfishness" philosophies that have been presented thus far. I would agree that a lot of the philosophies being touted here are questionable reasoning. There is nothing irrational about doing something
as someone was saying earlier in the forum (assuming they are correct) the bot has to load the game into RAM (as any program does), and the judge apparently used this as the reason for calling it copyright infringement.
He did indeed use this as the reason. But not necessarily that the bot did the loading - it doesn't matter what loaded the game: Even if the OS loaded the game into memory, it's considered copying.
As per your logic if i buy that candy bar they still charge me a fine for picking it up and walking around with it because i "could steal it at any moment!"
One of the many reasons I'm not a big fan of many current DRM strategies.
You have two options. Option 1: You get the game for free Option 2: You pay for it.
Option 3: Don't get the game. It is after all a luxury, not a necessity. After all, if you people truly think you're actually being "rational," games wouldn't exist to buy anyways.
I think we're all arguing about the same thing. does anyone disagree w/ this: the hacker/modder was wrong, legally and ethically the judges call was BS and blizzard was well within it's rights to sue/ seek compensation anyone got a problem w/ that
I have a problem with the statement "the judges call was BS."
however I think Blizzard sueing some one instead of banning them and anyone else using the bot is like taking a sledge hamme
Vicarious infringement occurs where someone has a direct financial interest in the infringing actions being committed by another and has the ability to control it, even if they do not know that the infringement is taking place and do not directly take part in it.
Okay, thanks for the clarification. Looks like there's more to it than I initially thought.
the basic and underling technicality the judge apparently used opens the door to the logic that any owne
If Michael used any portion of the game to create the bot then he was in full violation of Eula as well as copyright infringement .
Actually, he was found in violation of contributory copyright infringement, along with a couple other things for these reasons: -He was creating software that breaks the EULA, and therefore directly contributes to breaking the EULA. -To make matters worse, he was profiting from this contribution to break the EU

No.
If you make a good enough product people will buy it.
Yes. Many people buy candy. Which will henceforth serve as my example. For one thing, I hate having to search for a needle in a haystack, and so many news places simply aren't citing their sources, and it drives me CRAZY.
The geek squad people said that dell computers ( I have a dell xps ) have something in their bios that prevents thrid party graphics cards from working with their machinges, so you have to buy cards through dell. Is this true, or was that geek squad person crazy?
I wouldn't put it beyond them. These OEMs have a bad habit of trying to pull such stunts in the past. How often this really happens is up for debate. In any case, I don't see how a BIOS problem could loo
I dunno, there have been so many threads about this topic - maybe it's time to just condense them all into one thread.
I'm not sure if these are on a scale of 0 or 1 to 6! But what the hell scores higher than a quad core?
I don't think any machine actually scores a 6 right now. Microsoft has reserved higher numbers for future machines, I think. Your good points emphasize that Vista has a lot of little new features rather that one big new feature: That is indeed the experience most people will have. The big features in Vista are really for the developers, the people
The software industry makes staying within standard contract law nearly impossible. First, by hiding the terms of the EULA from the purchaser until after the sale. Second, since I can not possibly know what I've agreed to with the purchase of the software until after I get it home and open it and read it I can't agree there was any willingness on my part during the sale process to agree with what I would have to live with. If I am unhappy with the license terms I can no longer return it b
The guy from NVIDIA is essentially right there's really not alot of growth for CPU's
There is, actually. They're going parallel, and in the future massively parallel. And if there's anybody who knows all about the technology on microchips, it's Intel. I'm not buying this idea that nVidia has the upper hand in microprocessor design. If Intel wants something done, they have both the R&D and the manpower to do it. They're like a battleship: They may take a while to change to
