Multi Core is though, a known dead end for consumer hardware.
How so? The number of transistors that can be placed on a chip continues to increase, and multicore allows them to continue increasing the amount of processing power per watt. I would disagree. I think we will be seeing quite a bit of doubling in the next few years: 8, 16, 32, 64, even 128 cores I think is possible before they start hitting the next physical barrier. Multicore is not going away from consumer co

Good system. The 9600 is a great card, and the Core 2 CPU rocks. I'm running a very similar system, except I'm using 64 bit Vista and 6 gigs of RAM. That new computer should serve you well :). It's a great setup.

I try to keep it to a simple military-like designation followed by a name. Usually a letter representing the role of the craft followed by a number followed by the name. I had a chart once, but I lost it - I guess I'll have to make a new one. A big issue I see is re-equipping a ship: In real aircraft, they can carry a large variety of weaponry that can be changed at the airfield. Indeed, you don't rename an aircraft every time you change weapons! With GalCiv 2, however, you hav

I play now, but that's just because my siblings play it as well. Frankly, if it didn't act as a form of communication, I'd much rather not play MMORPGs at all. Too boring, frankly - kill a gazillion monsters, stop by the auction house, kill a gazillion more and every once in a blue moon celebrate a new level. **yawn** No thanks, I never really quite understood the point of grinding.

Oh, for crying out loud, I leave for work, and come back to this . . . Bush's policy has always been that no options are off the table, but with public opinion and congress against him, I seriously, seriously doubt we're going to war with Iran. He'd certainly never get congressional support. Right now his policy is diplomacy, and I seriously, seriously, doubt he's going to declare a war with mere months left before he's done being president. Anybody notice the date th

There is an entire class of businesses called "non-profits" that make no profit at all, but provide very valuable services. Indee
Oh I see now. Thanks for showing me the error of my ways. Impulse is wonderful, wonderful. I don't know how I can live without it. I know it's free but I would really prefer to pay for it.
Well, I'm sure Stardock has heard your complaint loud and clear. The decision is ultimately up to them.

mumblefratz: I do believe you can purchase the game from their website instead of through Impulse.
The only people that I've disagreed with are the people that are telling me that I'm somehow wrong and that I should want and need Impulse.
Your desires are perfectly acceptable. You can decide you hate and dislike Impulse all you want. However, if I get rid of Windows because I hate it, then I'll have to face the fact that I lose the ability to run most of
That should never be a justification for piracy.
Agreed, but many people do what they shouldn't :(.
The games will be priced at the amount that the company feels will maximise their profits from the sale of it, as with any other good in this world.
Well, maximizing profit isn't equivalent to minimizing piracy. The price/profit curve and the price/piracy curve are two curves that may have different maximum and minimum values. In f
First, ObjectDock is NOT part of ObjectDesktop.
Which totally explains why I have it under the "My Desktop" tab.
OB is a . . a. . a magic thing that can do so much more. It can replace the taskbar with DX widgets and menues and clocks and meters and oh . . it's wonderful.
Okay, I stick with OB, then. *uninstalls and hides OD*. Okay - so, here I am with Object Desktop, looking for a possible Windows task bar replacement. Turns out OD does indeed come with two: ObjectDock and Object Bar. Which appear to be the same thing, with one just being a bit more like Mac OS X, and the other more like Windows. But they seem to have the same functionality - they're program launchers, and they both look like they're very flexible. So - my primary question is, is one replacing the other? What's the big difference? <b

"The thing I can not understand about the con$oles is that .. why the hell can't I install them to the hard drive, like I could with a modified XBOX." You're guilty until proven innocent in the minds of the big name developers. Frankly, these companies create their own piracy problems by charging too much for their games.

I don't think this is just for games, not in the long run. Sure, games can use platforms like this, but it's looking like that's where everything is going. The problem is, Windows' shell and update systems simply suck. The Start Menu is frankly not very good. Installing and uninstalling applications is hidden under the control panel. "All Programs" is a flat list with no organization at all, and ends up being a wall of company names. Keeping your computer organized is practically a full

Made something like the Antlion in Half-Life 2. Very good flyer (although in Spore, it's more like gliding?), very aggressive. [link="http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=antlionuw5.jpg"][/link]
So why exactly is it that I want to install a store on my PC? What precisely makes this any different from adware?
Is this a knee-jerk reaction to all forms of advertising, or is there something in particular you don't like about the Impulse store? If it's a knee-jerk reaction to all forms of advertising, you might as well stop using your computer completely and move away from all first world countries. Frankly, there is nothing inherently wrong with adv
why not talking to VALVe and work together instead of split Community?
I think competition is great, and it will end up making both platforms stronger. In addition, there is some difference in target markets: Steam really caters more to the hardcore gamers, and Valve has done a great job at getting even some of their biggest competitors on their system! Stardock, on the other hand, has a much broader audience that includes applications, customization, an
