I have got this too when choosing 8 races. However, when lowering it to 7, you seem to get 7. So I think it is only the 8 selection that doesn't work. Note - I only play Large or Huge. Never smaller, I don't know if it works for smaller maps.

I was thinking exactly the same thing myself. I was wondering if perhaps Alan Bradley was a son/grandson etc of DL. In the stories that Brad wrote and posted a while ago, DL is trying to destroy the dreadlords to save his son primarily. Perhaps he was successful?

To get the serial number, go to Stardock central, go to GalCiv2 and there will be a drop down option called Dark Avatar. Right click on Dark Avatar, select register, and click the button called lookup serial number. An email will instantly be sent to the email address registered with stardock. Get the DA serial number, copy and past it into the serial number section in Stardock Central. Make sure the Product drop down menu is set to Dark Avatar (_not_ Product Subscription which it is by default)

I was thinking something along those lines too would be heaps of fun. The espionage feature now is good, but it could be even better! It might be possible to do something like your 'James Bond' type spy, if the spies actions were treated as a kind of ethical event/planet colonization event (similar code), but giving only bad options to the owning race and also giving the message to the player, so they can see what havok their spy is causing. Although the spies would have to be much rarer or else

Go to Stardock Central. Go to games. Under purchased games, it should have GalCiv2. Select GalCiv2, look at the drop down that appears and you should see Dark Avatar. Right click Dark Avatar, select Register Products. In the screen that pops up, click the request serial number button. It will be emailed instantly. Check your email, copy and past the code into the serial number area. Make sure you change the product from Games subscription to Dark Avatar (I had this problem). Then press update, a

I can't seem to get my Dark Avatar pre-order validated. I did exactly as Dark-Star said, requested the serial number, got the serial number, but when I entered it in the serial number box, it says it is invalid Can someone point me where to go please? EDIT - Nevermind. found the answer.

I agree with Scintor and Lord of Ruin, those are fantastic ideas for minor races and would make them much more fun and interesting. Presently they are only there as another way to get some more econ/industry capitals, trading and bully for some techs. It would be great to be able to have them join a major empire peacefully (maybe when you are in an alliance, and having a high diplomatic ability would increase the speed in which they join you) and grant a small empire wide bonus, such as <br/

Is anyone else concerned about the Korx abilities (start with all trade techs)? I can see what will happen - they will trade them all away ultra quickly and we will end up with EVERY race having all trade techs rather too soon. I think a better ability would be that their trade ships cannot be attacked (like the galactic wonder) and/or that their trade routes are not destroyed when at war, but only receive half income. It fits in with their background story (I remember written in one of the back

I always play as the Korx, and usually stick with evil. The special weapons and galactic wonders sway it for me. I believe that with evil you will probably save more money anyway than you will gain through the additional 3 routes (starbase upgrade fees gone, plus if you get the wonder that allows free ground invasion techniques). Just watch out if you start next to the Altarians or those damn space Cockroach Torians.

I agree with JanuHull, minor races in BotF were very well designed. Even though not all the minor race ships were that great, it was heaps of fun just trying to collect them all. I would but a GalCiv2 Expansion pack that focused purely on minor races with no other changes at all (but heroes would be good ) there is much more that could be done with them, such as getting them to join your empire peacefull

I think the addition of heroes in an expansion pack would be the single most awesome thing Stardock could do with GalCiv2. Definately want to see them before GalCiv3. Think of the possibilities for missions - you could have a regicide style mission like in Civ4, it would bring great variety to campaign missions. You could even have a hero style spy, with a big spy bonus who can undertake special missions.
