Obviously we have to remember that this is just a game and other people use multimonitor setups to e.g. Play a game while doing something else. Next thing we'll be asking Stardock to make GalCiv themed computers... Hmm....
Galciv themed computers! I second that motion! My PC has a rail gun, booyahhh scumbag! Seriously though, just because the game supports mul

For all the talk about the maps and interface and ship designer (All of which makes me resemble a lonely island song) one thing that I haven't seen discussed yet is multiple monitor support. Imagine being able to put the colony management screen on a separate window? Or the science screen, or just about every screen other than the main view.... ... Or even have a second main view window. So you could put window 2 on an important part of the map while window one
I like the idea but as other pointed out it isn't practical. And for one more reason not already pointed out, there would be no reason to fight. It would be an infinite colony rush. LOL: I owned GC3 for 15 years, still playing my first game...1.7 billion colony's so far. It really is too bad though. I really like that idea.
The repository is a great idea. That stuff is teasing me like Christmas presents when I was a kid. Chinese tickle torture ain't got anything on GC3 waiting torture. One quick suggestion though, content should be dated and/or sorted (or be able to be sorted) in order of posting. It took me a moment to spot the new picture that was added just recently of the small ship zoomed in. When the repository gets larger, it will be harder and harder to spot new conten
Torian Baby Back Ribs. MMMMMMM Hickory smoked to perfection. Comes with your choice of 2 sides. (Sorry, no salads available.)
Well, according to the interview with Brad: https://www.galciv3.com/journals . They are changing it to ideologies. Looks like good vs bad thing is going to be going away. :)
My big issue with galaxy size is the range scaling. When you start an immense galaxy, the very first turn, you can reach almost a quarter of it. That's fine if you have few, few, few for stars, planets, habitable, but if you have abundant, abundant, abundant, the galaxy still feels small. Heck I normally don't even bother to research range techs. I look forward to a larger galaxy but even if they were to fix just range scaling it would be awesome. Have th
I don't recall anywhere saying steam would be required for this game. Did I miss a something somewhere? I have no problems with the game being available on steam, but I prefer that the game doesn't require steam. My issue with steam is that it is another log in. I don't like the proliferation of log ins that are required for things. I have a log in here, a log in on impulse (game stop) and one on steam and so on and s
Frogboy wasn't very clear what they were going to do with that. Personally, I wouldn't mind something like the CIV IV government Civic idea. You could pick say at species creation a set of moral principals. (IE, fine with slavery, don't like piracy, ETC...) Each would have a bonus and/or techs and your over all score would affect how other races perceive you. I don't think you should have to research this stuff. In this way you could have a race
I have never had that myself, however if it is the taxation than holy cow. If your approval is too low, you don't get new population. If you don't get new population than you don't have the tax base to maintain your empire. Do you by any chance have persistent money problems? I don't play on tough because I am too much of a wimp but that seems like a bad place to be. It seems to me the Terrans play best with lots of people and better
My list goes like so: 1: The ability to save planetary governors for reuse in other games. 2: The ability to put building types, instead of specific buildings for planetary governors. (IE research buildings in general instead of Xeno Research Lab in particular.) 3: W or another explore command that goes to random locations rather than trying to explore the map. (The explore algorithm sucks and once all areas are explored is worse.) 4: The o
I have had it working all this time so I know it works. In fact I have not had any issues with Vista 64 or Sins in the year that I have had it. My sins is in drive D: but yes I cleared both. Though I didn't erase the AppData folder until after the last install attempt. I can erase them and try it agian, it is just that it takes a long time to download and install it so I was hoping for something better then try again. Thanks for the re
As another beta is out for Entrenchement I went to install it. However you have to uninstall first. (VERY BAD, ITS A HUGE DOWNLOAD!) OK no problem, so I uninstall and reinstall. Then I go and try to play and I get an error "The procedure entry point RepoRtEventW could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll". So I went ahead and uninstalled and removed the folder and reinstalled the game again, (Another HUGE DOWNLOAD) but I get the same error.&nbs
The scouts like to search a bit and then bog down in keeping intel on the explored systems watched. I wish we could set them to explore the map as a priority and then update intel on systems.
I'm not sure if this works, but try selecting your desired fleet leader, then without deselecting the leader, select all the other ships that you want in that fleet. You have to hold the shift key down to select other units. Then you have to select them either one at a time or type at a time. One at a time is fine for small fleets like the ones I use. Since my fleets only normally have 4 or less ships in it I just click on
Some people mentioned mods, is there a way to mod out fleet autojoin either globally or for ship types? Yes, each ship entity file has a line for the default autojoin behavior: autoJoinFleetDefault TRUE To turn it off, just set it to FALSE. You will have to do it for each ship, though.
Thank you!
I too am having serious problems with fleet auto join. I came here to find out how to turn that useless feature off. Well at least I can do it for individiual ships. Sigh. Actually instead of a global auto join switch, we should be able to click on a button on the factory and turn it off for that factory. Just like the auto cast buttons for abilities. As already meantioned if setting the rally point of the factory to a fleet would work as well then that
I have the same problem on my system. Mine is Win Vista 64 on Phenom 9850 Quad running at 2.5 GHz with 8 gigs 1066 ram and two 9800 GTX with SLI (also set to single GPU for sins.) running at 1680 X 1050. Mobo is Asus M3HT Delux with Mempipe. (Not actually using mempipe ATM) Oddly my gamming laptop (Model: Gateway P-173XL FX) wasn't having any issues with multi play so I copied the save game over and the performance boost was very noticable. My laptop shouldn't be abl
The other day we were talking about the Hadron Collider (however we spell it.) and I pointed out that on the off chance it created a black hole that sucked earth up, some aliens out there would be like wow they totally just noobed themselves!
When I first tried making worm holes I was connecting them to normal systems. They have to go to worhole systems only. What you do is make a phase lane first, and then click on it, then change its type from phase lane to wormhole. I don't know much about what you are doing exactly so I coverd the basics just in case.
Add news icons (you know, the ones that show up on the right side of the screen) for battles and surrendered/otherwise gained planets. This would be great. You see, this way I can quickly zoom to these places without taking notes or trying (and failing) to remember them. That way I can build replacement ships or move reinforcements around easier. Also, it would make it easier to find those planets that suddenly find themselves in your empire like when someone surrenders to you so that y
There is something wrong with surrender in the game. The AI seems to follow some general rules of thumb that aren't always relevant. For example: I was playing a game where I had set the difficulty lower then normal because I was exploring the new economy, the result was I controlled most of the center of the map. The other 4 races were more or less each in his own corner. The Altarans were isolated deep in their own corner and had a big buffer of me all around them. They were at wa

It is on SDC. I've downloaded it. Admittedly mine said 0.96a[b].006 and the date is still on 19/2/2008, even after refreshing XML data..
0.97[b].001 is Beta 5
OUCH. Then the update doesn't show up for me at all no matter what server I use or after refreshing XML. I double checked it is set to show betas, but since I have installed 0.96a[b].006 already, it must be set.
Well, I timed it a little. "Normal" turn processing would take from 10-30 seconds (got longer later on), one of these "spikes" took upwards of 10 minutes. (Usual spike was closer to 2-3 minutes, I think... didn't keep accurate records past the one where I got really ticked at how long it took).Could the "spiking" have something to do with the map settings I choose? Max players, max nuetrals, but on a tiny map with few stars and fewer inhabited worlds?
I don't use any
I hope this suggestion wasn't already mentioned, after 14 pages it gets a bit difficult to back read and I am not sure of a good search for this. Anyway: I often kill extra money by going to the civ screen and finnishing builds for coloneys until I hit my budget cap. Say 15k BC to keep out of the 20+ penalty. This can get very tedius fast because of a few quirks in this screen. First: 1) When ordered by currently building (say market place), the order of the planets
