Is it worth it to get GalCiv 1, Altarian Prophecy, and GalCiv II for the storyline in the campaign modes? Or is it simply better to just get Dark Avatar and Twilight of the Arnor for the sake of the most "modernized" updated gameplay, with races that all play differently, and the be

I haven't gotten DA yet, so I just wanted to ask- how were the characters implemented? Were they hero units? Did the expansion have much of a plot?
As I recall, in the original GalCiv2, when you conquered a planet, it means you killed off the entire native population. Will that still happen in DA?
Isn't the whole "Drengin split up into regular evil villains who just want to enslave everyone and insanely evil villains who want to destroy everyone" just a throwback to the concept of the Ur-Quan from Star Control? Because even if it is, I can still dig it.
What? You kill off the entire population? I was under the impression that you kill the military, and the population is just assimilated- forcibly or otherwise. It doesn't make sense for, say, Torians massacring civilians or Korx getting rid of a local market.
Here's an idea: You know how in almost all strategy games (especially turn-based ones) like GalCiv you occasionally get to a point where you're getting BEAT, your enemies have surrounded you, they're chipping away at your infrastructure, your economy is dying, you're past bankrupt and you can't afford any more combat units? How about under certain campaign scenarios you have the option of declaring Economic Doomsday (or a less dramatic name, Extreme Wartime Measures)? This would be so
A suggestion, and three questions: 1. I see that the Drath's character model was drastically changed between Altarian Prophecy and Dread Lords. Couldn't you incorporate that into the storyline? Maybe the beefy-looking Drath guy from AP could have been from a warrior caste/clan/position. Or to show the deviousness of the Drath, he was just a fake image to depict their race as seemingly slow and dim-witted all brawn and no brain lizards, to throw off the humans in first contact.
The one thing that SE has over GC is the ability to build Dyson Spheres and ringworlds.
