No, I don't know of any race that can create a reasonable combat navy without a fairly strong economic backbone and several decent weapons/defense techs.

I would think that the size (in terms of targeting) and mass (in terms of inertia) would make evasive maneuvers for most if not all of the non-fighter ships in this game impractical.
And I wouldn't look too much into the lore on this site, it's misleading about the play styles (at least as far as the vasari are concerned) and almost, if not already, a year old now.
The thing that keeps getting me and makes me wonder about the AI's integrity is how everytime I change my off/def types to counter that of my opponent, the very next turn they have countered mine, unless they have a "weak" economy or worse, in which case I guess they can't or whatever, but seeing as how the AI wins the colony race every game now it's pretty hopeless to get an AI who has a weaker economy than you by the time you have the resources to declare war.
I could care less if it was in campaign format, but you can't say some ancient alien race is running from something big and scary and then we never find out what it is, which is what this is looking like.
I don't think we ever get any official response to these posts. We have the players who say, yeah, this makes no sense, it needs to be changed; and we have the players who say, the devs are gods, their logic is undeniable. Usually I'm pretty tech heavy in games, so when this event happens, I just outresearch the peacekeepers, but if this happens endgame, the game is over because you can never defeat them.
As much as I dislike bumping, any ideas on this?
I have my latest drivers for my dual Radeon X1950 Pro (crossfired)and I'm having the same problem as of DA 1.8. The various parts show up properly on the ship, but I can't see them in the thumbnail and ship thumbnails on the galaxy map also don't show up properly such as on the "ships in orbit" list. Although, the portrait if I have only one ship selected shows up fine.
When it's too late to discover any serious balance issues before the final release. Like I said, I have hope, I just hope I'm not let down.
I do find this disturbing. It's not necessarily putting me off, but like schem, I do worry about diplo issues, fleet formations issues, advent balancing issues etc, but I do have faith in SD, and since SD is siding with IC, I have faith in IC, i just hope it isn't ill placed.
I think we should be able to know which slot goes where in relation to starting positions on the setup screen.
That would a very useful function p5yy. Another one I would like to see is being able to select everything other than fighters and construction frigs. Or to bandbox everything but fighters and cfs.
Yeah I notice this when I play as well. Usually only happens after an hour or so ingame, I always figured it was related to my hardware though, because I've seen it happen on other games in a similar fashion.
The problem with that is that we only receive the money when the trade ships actually reach their destination, and I personally prefer it that way. I wouldn't want the trade ships to generate income on a /sec ratio.
Don't forget Germany is a police state, and you are guilty unless proven innocent.
You're a bit behind on the times buddy. East Germany may have been, but ever since the Berlin Wall fell, it uses a more judicial system. They can't just run around arresting whoever they want. And Germany has always been touchy on Nazi subjects, for obvious reasons. So this really doesn't surprise me.
Even an asteroid will be able to house enough hangars to guarantee at least one capital ship dropping unless they take the time to wipe out your bombers before they send the big guns through.
Yeah, who needs strategy anyway?
And when two fleets of near equal strength meet for battle you're happy for the outcome to be largely determined by the actions of the AI or elements of chance?
Yes. Not all of us have the reflexes microers have. And not all of us can micro multiple battles simultaneously. We shouldn't lose one battle and win the other just because, as the leader of an empire, we personally commanded one battle and not the other.
Because we all know that watching the right (or maybe wrong?) movie can excuse personal attacks.
I still think judging from the way it works ingame already, "flagship" is just the first ship. However, as I have said before, having the flagship convey some bonus or have some benefit would be nice, as long as it isn't game tipping (battle tipping maybe though).
What about reloading auto saves in multiplayer? (I also have a post about this in technical feedback.
I just wanted to thank everyone who replied to this, I have my new pc, and finally have it hooked up to the net (already had it for a few months).
We've also discussed what a flagship is, and why it wouldn't necessarily convene a bonus to your fleet. A flagship can mean the main ship in a fleet, or it can be the first thing (ship, product, service, person, whatever) of a given catagory. ie If sins was the first game the IC made (and I almost think i heard it said that it is) it would be the flagship game for IC. Hence, when you loose your flagship, you loose the first cap ship you made, and hence you couldn't re-designate anothe
I was just playing a game with my brother. It was a random med map and I was attempting to place a large (1000) bounty on our mutual enemy (AI) when sins Alt+tabbed without me actually Alt+tabbing, this had happened before on sp but it never affected the game, but it would keep doing it about every 5 mins after the first time it happened. This time however my end froze, but froze as in an eternal pause, I could still select ships and such, but nothing would move or happen and I was r
What about .34?
Same here, I love watching AI's battle it out, no matter what type of game (FPS, RTS, strategy), although sometimes I like watching from the sidelines but influencing battles in one way or another.
