Starbases are another of those implementations that I can't understand. They're there only for you to spam a sector or planet with as many as permited, to give you an accumulated effect. They're exploit/cheese material - I mean, look at the tiny hull exploit. Even their effects *sound* cheesy, trade route spamming? SBs should be built in orbit of your own planets, not in the middle of nowhere.

someone loses because a nearby wormhole popped out a zillion Drengin battle cruisers without warning. Hmm, and logistics? And don't the Drengin SA do something similar? And some mega events? This kind of argument is weak. You already have the stargates in the background story, use them. They're power hogs, that's their weakness. Use that to control them. See the lack of creativity? The new features in DA, when I said they should be in the base

Why don't you post YOUR idea of a 10/10 expansion so that I can rip it to shreds? Ok, how about a bug free, cheese free, thoroughly tested gameplay and campaign module? Rip me to shreds please. Sure DA has some new stuff (even though...), some fixes and improvements. The fact is, some of them were *needed*, like the combat system (even though it now presents other problems). Is DA perfect? Nope. Not a 10 then. You

To be perfectly honest, asteroids, planet environments, custom player creation, they should all have been introduced in the base game, not in an expansion pack. They're more or less basic for this type of game. That there had to be an expansion for this can only be regarded as strange. As for the best expansion being the "10" to which all other expansions should compare to, that's about the most absurd opinion I've heard on the subject. Only by reading these forums you could think 7.8 i

Not sure about being evil-only (if you had to research it to get rid of the effect, only evil civs could do that). It should, however, make you take a major hit to your alignment, in the evil direction of course. And the diplomatic repercussions should be huge, with war being declared by the target's allies. Another effect could be to "contaminate" all farms in the planet, effectively negating their effects (and affecting pop). But for this to be effective, I guess planets would have to be m

Like Entropy suggested, what about adding a lower cost prereq ability for the early game and make the current ability more time consuming to research. How about have the early tech reduce the soldiering ability of the planet and/or reduce the population by 50%. It that isn't useful enough in the early game it could reduce or stop population growth and/or production for a set amount of turns. I don't quite understand how this SA made it to the game, if yo

So why doesn't it affect only the player? It's just a game, right? It doesn't have to be realistic, right? It's supposed to shake things up and keep the player on his toes, right? So why does it affect the AIs? If the whole point is just to have fun...

but Im tired of hearing Kryo talk about beating maps in 20 turns or so with Spore cheese. Like it's actually something good. This other game I played years ago had a Virus tech that would affect not only civilian pop, but also any teleports made to and from that planet, spreading the virus. There are no teleports in this game obviously, but maybe it could be a way to quarantine planets instead of outright "conquering" them. Also, that game had a le

Seconded. I don't find this childish humor in GalCiv2 the least bit amusing. It'd be so much more immersive if these silly texts didn't ruin my illusion of running an empire every five minutes. Thirded Yep, not funny at all, the little robot is also somewhat childish. Somehow I don't imagine a robot using that kind of language (W00t, and the like). <br

Don't know if this has been sugested already, but how about making them a requirement for the ground assault's air superiority bonus? The bonus would only apply if the attacker has tiny hulls (fighters) in orbit, and the size of the bonus would depend on the # of tiny hulls, up to the current max.

@ ToS Iceman - last I heard, SE 5 was as buggy as hell, has this been remedied? and whats your evaluation on the game? Yep, it's buggy, but there's a balance mod that's pretty good, and there's an official patch coming soon. The game system is very much the type of game I like. Ship design, tactical combat, planet environments, production based system, solar system layouts, huge and intrincate techtree, a more "realistic" design... it has some crappy stu

My point is that you seem to assume that people who have different opinions than you have "stupid assumptions" and what not when they're not stupid assumptions, they are simply conclusions arrived at by a different path than you may have taken. Just to be on the safe side, the stupid assumptions I refered to were by the *races*, not by you, and I quote myself: That's a pretty stupid assumption for space faring civs, Going back r

The Laws of Physics said it is Impossible to extrude tungsten into a wire so thin, because it is Too Brittle! Science Fiction uses the word Fiction for a Reason. Tungsten is too brittle?! Aghh! It's one of the most physically robust metals there is. And you're right, fiction says it all. But this is not just a matter of fiction, but of nonsense and contradiction. Can't use the "fiction" excuse for that <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL

This part I have to respond to because I think half the issue may be a reading comprehension issue. The Arceans have never had a visit from the Drengin. I don't think it is a comprehension issue as much as it is a problem of there being 2 different backstories, and you might be "forgetting" what you wrote. The Drengin, in *one* of the backstories, launched an invasion fleet against Arcea, and the Arceans shut down the gate and anihilated the "in

The Drengin and Arceans didn't communicate together to make the stargates. They both came up with it on their own. Nice coincidence Same device, at the same time, thousands of light years apart. Anyways, the storyline says "Between the two of them...", which lead me to believe that they had somehow cooperated. You could have put the Precursors somehow "handi

The Torian home world isn't that far away in terms of light years so you're not tlaking thousands of years to send communications back. Hmm, so why did it take 70k years for the stargate to get there?! I'm not trying to make an issue out of this, I merely replied to your farming explanation, and pointed out some inconsistencies in the story. And there are a lot. For instance, how did the Arceans and Drengin communicate with each other to invent the starg

Apologies. Somehow I'd gotten the impression you balked at "RP" stuff for GCII. I probably misinterpreted some of your KISS talk here & elsewhere in response to some folks feature suggestions. I certainly respect the value of keeping mechanics & UI as simple as possible even if the main reason I love this game is that it can get soooo complicated RP is good as long as it's kept within limits, else it risks losing the RP status. I am simply pointing out that 100,000 years ago, the Drengin and Arceans were already advanced civilizations while humans were hunting and gathering. Secondly, you state it's a stretch that the Drengin and Arceans couldn't figure out hyperdrive or fusion power? Why is that a stretch?[/quote] So in (an additional) 100k years, *2* already very adv

I don't recall us ever sending spies to Mars. Of course not. Probes and remote missions are hardly spies... And I guess an alien structure is easily recognizable as a farm or a lab, they usually come with a neon sign... <TABLE cellpadding=8

Softening up the target with various weapons like the tidal, mass drivers etc Isn't it strange that you can't have orbital bombardment because it leads to mass genocides, yet you can have such a powerful control over nature (invasion tactics) that in the end result in genocides??
