I just wish the AI would expand out methodically from it's homeworld so that the galaxy would end up with reasonably coherent boarders. I hate having AI planets diffused throughout my empire and each others empires, it is quite idiotic. Why idiotic? It is certainly something that I would consider doing in a multiplayer game, in some cercumstances, to limit my opponents opportunities and to be generally disruptive. Especially if I thought that I could

BTW - what rhyme? drrider
xeno lab makes sense as a step when you have Library, or a couple of other bonuses, on homeworld in the early game, and those tiles are the only labs you are building. 33% increase in tp production for least number of weeks building. drrider
One last word. If you're going to build or have built from parts, do some research. Maximimum PC (mag and .com), the tech sections of gaming mags and sites, Tom's Hardware Guide (oh, yeah!), Anandtech.com, CPU mag, SilentPCReview.com, FrostyTech.com, are all good places to get up to snuff on components. And read a number of full system reviews, reading between the lines for what the technical editors/reviewers consider really important; its not just about all power all the time. When
What will it be called and when can we expect to see it? Is there a built in map editor in the game? Any chance you could release more maps like that? Er...check the dates and the version numbers. You are commenting on an old, pre-v1.61 thread. Frogboy was saying that the map would be included in the final of v1.6 ! I believe in the scenario set-ups it is the same as the title here, Epic War. drrider
Forgot to mention the Corsair HX620 watt PSU. Really built by Seasonic, the king of quiet , high efficiency PSUs. Much reading on the subject, especially on SilentPCReview, also on Tom's Hardware Guide, convinced me that many conventional wisdom PSU wattage recommendations are overblown. Most current rigs (short of 7950 or 8800 SLI rigs) could probably run just fine forever on a 450 to 500w PSU. But I wanted headroom for a few years growth. The Corsair PSUs also have been tested to ha
ghostwes, Well, I started buying parts for the desktop almost a year ago, so some of my choices don't make sense in the current market. It was put together for me by a young fellow gamer who has the degree and makes his living at this (ex-Geeks-On-Call) but there were many demands on his time (read: delays to my PC) through the spring and early summer. I got an AMD X2 4000+, w/ the 1 Mb cache for a big discount, just as they were revamping their line (and before the Intel Core
Right on Deth... This has been my experience so far as well. I purchased some PC3200 DDR, but it's ok, because it's backward compatible with the PC2100 ram originally installed. My MB is ASUS as well, A7A 266 IIRC. Mr Wave, You should be advised that, although backward compatible, the presence of the 256Mb stick of PC2100 is probably limiting the performance of ALL of your memory to PC2100 speed. Possibly a better tech-head here on the forum ca
Oh, I dunno. Who is that, the Iconians, in the corner? They MIGHT have a chance, on Tough, if the rest of their cluster has OK planets. The Terrans are toast, of course. drrider
I don't understand, if you don't want to play "RTS feature" you can just select auto-resolve. Problem solved and the majority of people will want "RTS feature", you are very bizarre minority. No, he's not. drrider
Sorry it took me awhile to get back guys. Hectic end of week. I'll take a stab at it... to me it almost looks like a crayon drawing depicting "Rocketship 7" from the TV show of the same name beamed out of Buffalo, NY in the early 60's. (cigar or no cigar?) Close, in concept, but no cigar. In the late 50's / early 60's, at least in the New York / New Jersy viewing area, there was a TV cartoon show call 'Colonel Bleep'. Colonel Blee
Why did you jump from crippling to suicidal? I was doing OK pretty consistently on Maso, so I started posting to the Meta. Posted a couple of wins. So now I've been the Korath's (or occasionally the Arcean's) little playground dirt eater on every Obscene start I've tried (6, I believe). Pace yourself; work your way up. drrider
What is luck good for exactly? Luck on DL *I think* gives you an enhanced change of delivering a "critical hit" in ship battle and isn't anything I'd waste points on. In DA I'm pretty sure that luck defines the bottom limit on how much damage your attacks do. If you have 30% luck then if you have an weapon with attack 10 then the minimum "roll" you'll get is a 3. In DA I would think that this would be something that's worth sp
Do you think that enhanced speed has a significant effect in battle? There have been prior posts by player researchers and, i think, kryo to the effect that speed only effects movement across the strategic map. It does not have any affect on combat. drrider
Thanks for the timing tips. I didn't know you could control when your trade ships come and go(that is, when to send them out). You can't control when your trade ships cycle. You can only choose when the freighter that is establishing the route first arrives at the partner planet. that sets the cycle time for the new route. drrider
it was a rogue state that triggered ww1 One has to presume you are referring to the 1000-year old Austro-Hungarian Empire as a rogue state, since they chose to pretend that Mr. Princip was somehow an agent of Serbia (he was a Bosnian Serb, that is, ethnically Serbian but a citizen of Austrian Bosnia). This allowed them to exploit the assassination as an excuse to present untenable demands and justify mobilization to annex portions of Serbia.<br
Yes, it's fixed. Though some would argue there are other imbalances in the combat system. drrider
Dread Lords? I've yet to actually see them. In fact besides the super charged growing race abilities(or whatever that one is called) Ive had no repeats. That one never seems to amount to very much either. I don't believe that the pop growth boster is a mega-event, just a regular one. and the period of xenophobia certainly is not a mega - I've had it in DL. drrider
Its a typo: "...use up his movement points." drrider
Many of your members probably only saw it in black and white, originally. I'll even give a text hint: 0 N, 0 E. drrider
Terraforming is only automatic in DL. In DA you have to research the techs, but then you don't have to spend any time or points to convert tiles. drrider
Is it possible to build a starbase(or multiple starbases) with tons and tons of Inverse Tractor Beams and Stellar Wakes, and then sit a TerrorStar in it's AoE for a turn, followed by launching the TerrorStar at high speed? I've seen this being done with normal ships in MottiKhan's Technically Evil AAR. Nobody knows anything about how the TerrorStars will work, except what may be inferred from the 7 year old Gal Civ game. They don't exist until the ToA e
All that stuff is implemented in Starships Unlimited, which is visually more primitive than GC2, but a very nifty little indie game. Even if it is 5-7 years old (the original original version - Andrew has also done several free updates). Go to www.apezone.com. I've kept it on my hard drive for 5+ years. drrider
How about Tiberium! Like in C&C 1! You pretty much have never heard of copyright law as a force in the world, right? drrider
OK, guys, I know I'm not in the empire but I have a little challenge for the more life-experienced gamers out there, and y'all are the biggest concentration around. AN AWARD! 3 silver chin wiskers artfully braided during the boring parts of the last opera that SWMBO imposed upon me. To the first old f...hand who properly identifies my new icon. I was going for obscure but meaningful to those of us who have really spent a (long) lifetime fond of SF. drrider
