Screen Goes Black after game start in Bug Reports GalCiv2 Forums

I have installed the game, updated drivers to the most recent drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled but each time it starts it allows main menu through the tip just before game start (Selection of player, size, etc is allowed to proceed); then it has the error pop-up and quits. Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated. Running WinXP with all updates (updates automatically done weekly) If more info is needed please tell me how to get the info and I'll follow up.
