But, chunky, you see the thing is my old turn-of-the-century computer ran GalCiv fine. This one can run Oblivion on it pretty well, so it's not exactly a pudding cup. I suspect that there is a specific conflict, apparently in the graphics driver, and apparently it has something to do with 'flipping the back buffer to the primary buffer' whatever THAT means. All I know about buffers is that whenever something goes wrong with them on the enterprise, kirk gets split by the transporter. Seriousl

Allright, from what I read, ialmrnt5 was the old, buggy version of an essential .dll used in the driver for GM-series intel graphics accelerator chipsets. This old, buggy one was replaced with a new buggy one, igxprd32.dll, and that is what I have. Many other games, such as Wow, CnC 3, and a number of other games I don't have, all get the same problem I am getting on this chipset. So, I have not yet found out what to do to fix this. I am kind of hoping there is an old, not buggy version I can r

"good" news: I tried a game with several settings disabled (hardware cursor, point vexors or something, and disable transform and lighting) and it crashed again. But! I got some more info from the log. It's all the same up to the end here: Debug Message: UIBeginGame called with g_ulLocalPlayerID = 0 Debug Message: UIBeginGameHelper: New Game Started Debug Message: UIBeginGameHelper: Mods are Disabled Debug Message: setting size 16 x 0 Debug Message: setting size 1

OK! I tried it out and I got one error message, this time from ifrmewrk, which is my Wi-Fi card's driver, and shortly after that I got a blue screen caused by igxprd32. I looked that up and it seems that a few other engines (notably WoW and a VRML renderer) have a similar problem. Following that, it leads back to ialmrnt5.dll. So, I guess that's right, ialmrnt5 or a related file is responsible. I'm looking for updates, but do you know any other possibilities? Also, where should I look for update

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-52, with the latest drivers and almost 3 Gb of Virtual Memory and 2 Gb Normal Memory. The graphics card is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100. I am sure of this.... I promise. The funny thing is that while I can't get this to work on my excellent laptop, It worked fine on my old machine. And, when it is running on this computer, I does great, no stuttering or choppiness. I am mystified. What happens is like this: The game plays perfectly well for

OK, I replicated the crash, in the first chapter, and here's the error log, from that session. If it looks OK, I don't know what to tell you, because I had to shut it down using Task manager. OK, What I discovered is that the error log only gets written to from DA, while I have been trying to run DL. Let's see if we can, maybe, get this same error in that chapter and I'll get back to you. And before anyone says it, no, I do have about 2-3 Gb of Virtual Memory, and the latests drivers.

OK, I have been messing with this problem for two days. There does not appear to be a debug.err log for "dark avatar" expansion. What do I mean? When I run DA, as part of the gold edition, nothing ever gets added to debug.err. The is no debug.err in the DA folder. I have cleared the debug.err file in the master folder and it only gets written to when I play a game from the first chapter (Dread Lords). Does this make sense to anyone? This is kind of a problem because I am having a proble

OK, nothing is being written to the error log unless I shut down the game normaly; the error log apparently doesn't work when there is an error. What I have discovered is that when I did manage to Ctrl-Alt-Del back to windows, there where three error boxes. Unfortunately, two of them had invisible text. The one I could read came up from iFramwrk.exe, saying simply, "The parameter is incorrect." WTGIF? Is there some kind of conflict with iFramwrk? It's a Wi-Fi controller, so I don't see why that
A debug.err is generated whenever you start a game. Deleting the file will make no difference once you start a new one, or load a saved game. PTTG, your debug shows that you exited the game normally - not that it crashed in any way. That debug.err looks like you simply opened the game, then exited. How can that be of any use in finding a fault?
I suspected that the log was not going to be helpful, I just w

AHHHH! It happened again! Some kind of false parameter or something. I'm just going to play [link="http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/"]Dwarf Fortress[/link] until there is a fix for this! AAAAAND I cleared the error log when I posted it, and NOW nothing was written to it. NOTHING! GAHHHHH!

I also have a GT8600 equivalent chipset, as part of a [link="http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=122558&catGroupId=31954&surfModel=Toughbook-52"]Toughbook 52[/link], and I am getting a very similar crash, sometimes a blue screen of death. This is only happening when there is a visual renderer, the main menu and other screens are fine. The funny thing is, on my old laptop with just a cheepie intel graphics chipset -
