In my last game I had two odd things happen regarding my approval rating: 1) In the late game I was running at something like 80% taxes with a 57% approval. I tweaked taxes up one click to get approval closer to 51%, but approval instantly dropped to 1%! I was able to duplicate it over and over - it always plummeted to 1%. 2) I had an election shortly thereafter (with approval at 57%), which I was quite shocked to lose! How do I lose an election with 57% approval? Is there a

I've seen folks here refer to "mega-events" like Dread Lord appearances, Peacekeepers, plague, etc., but I've never actually seen one in game. Is it an option I have to turn on? I'm playing DL 1.4 - is it DA only?

Does having a high speed have any value in actual combat? The game documentation doesn't mention it, but a strategy guide says it has defensive value. Anyone know?

Some of the racial bonuses have benefits that are very clear to me (eg, +20% research), but some of them I'm not clear on. What do these actually do: Courage (does this go to my soldiering?) Creativity (is this some kind of research bonus?) Defense (does this actually apply to my ships' defense? Eg, if I have +30%, does by ship with armor 10 actually get armor 13?) Loyalty (doesn't morale already make a planet less likely to revolt? Why would enyone take loyalty over a mora

Hi folks, I'm new to the game (just finished my fourth or fifth time through). I've noticed that my economy tends to go into a tailspin during wartime, usually crashing me to zero spending at exactly the worst time. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? I'm not entirely sure what the problem is.
