its easy to play generals without focusing on their minions. as Miyamiya said, Idols are just gear options. the skill based minions have varying degrees of usefulness depending on the general. Queen of Thorn's Shamblers are excellent minions and I almost always use them. Sedna's Yetis kinda suck and I rarely use them. Erebus Nightwalkers kinda suck and I rarely focus on them, but its almost always worth getting 1 point in Coven to expand from 2 to

there's a basic package of citadel upgrades that you really need to get, and pretty early too, to stay competitive in most games. here they are: Building Health 1 - grants regen to buildings, they won't regen at all without this Building Damage 1 - grants splash damage to buildings, they won't deal splash damage at all without this Gold Upgrade 1 - by far the most efficient of the gold upgrades, 1800 gold for +4 gold per second for whole team. this one i

Rook has remote harrassing with Power of the Tower. he can leave a Light Tower near a flag or other strategic location and get automatic harrasment hits on the enemy even while he's off somewhere else completely. leaving one or two rook towers behind won't be nearly enough to kill someone or even keep them out of an area if they really want to be there. but it will weaken them substantially so that they won't feel comfortable staying around to fight off challengers for the spot. <p

at the moment i don't think they do. notice that in the first definition, the one that's not commented out, the Structure category has a SpellFire = 1.0 value. it seems that only Artillery does extra damage to buildings in the first definition. what this looks like to me is that GPG had been expirimenting with a much more detailed and differentiated armor type system but they disabled it for the release build in favor of a much more straight forward one. &

no, unfortunately i haven't verified this empirically yet. these results are from interpreting code and nothing else. i'd be thrilled if someone can assist me and try to get some observed results. it might be harder than you think though since the tooltips are not easily accessible and also quite prone to bugs or are just out of date. for example, there is an undocumented feature of the Raise Dead Banners at ranks 3 and 4 they provide a Guardian Aura that boosts armor t

for those of you who, like me, have been curious as to exactly how this buff functions, i've got some results for you. this is stuff i learned while checking out the data files for the game. you can find the code for this in HOak_Abilities.lua this somewhat crude table conveys the general idea of how this works. there are 6 levels of buffs you can have. your buff level goes up by 1 for every 3 spirits you have. if you have ranks in Soul Power you gain an additional cons

balance is always a matter of "opinion". merely stating that fact doesn't transform the debate from valid to invalid. the mana argument is not a stupid one. it is a metric that many of us, in our "opinions", believe is a useful, accurate, and easily comprehensible numerical standard that can be used to assess the abstract notion of "balance" with. its attractive to me (and others too i suppose) because it is a good quantitative tool. qualitative assessments are va

i was browsing through the LUA files and found something I think might be particularly useful to know. here it is, exactly as it appears in the data files. there appears to be 2 definitions, one of which is currently active (the one appearing first), and the second of which appears to be disabled (its commented out). draw your own conclusions. -------------- #****************************************************************************</

extacide, i chose to compare Bite with Penitence specifically because there's so much overlap in what the two skills do. they both inflict a debuff that slows movement and increases damage taken. you're right to take into account the different base stats of Oak vs. Erebus when considering this. Oak has somewhat higher base mana and regen than Erebus but much lower gains per level. i

i think you should compare Bite and Penitence. both abilities are somewhat similar, though there are important differences. here's the chart for Penitence (source: http://demigod.wikia.com/wiki/Penitence ) cast time: .1 (nearly instant), range: 20 units, cooldown: 7 seconds, note: stuns for 0.1 seconds, will int

i think there's a relatively easy fix that i'd like to see implemented in an upcoming patch. currently Rank IV Heal deals a small amount of AoE damage (200) to everything in a radius around the target you heal. this damage isnt really enough to make a huge difference in combat but it is enough to tap creeps so you get your share of gold and exp when they eventually get killed by something else. its also enough to make sure you get Assist credit on a DG that gets killed

there are alot of ways to play Sedna. some of them are support and healing focused. some are not. she makes a great support character if focused around Healing Wind, Heal, and Magnificent Presence. she makes a very good Duelist if you focus on Pounce, Silence, and Inner Grace. i've yet to find a build thats any good at clearing creeps, seems to be a weak point. you really just need to let your team know what your role is going to be. there's nothi

meh, its a good suggestion. until Favor is fixed it should be disabled. not really fair to make someone play a ranked game against someone who can use a favor item if they can't also use a favor item.

Exile isn't meant to be played on Conquest mode. its set up so that pushing into the Citadel area is nearly impossible. its a great map to play on Dominate, Fortress, or Slaughter mode though, try it out sometime. I know everyone plays Conquest by default but the other modes are fun too. some maps are made for Conquest. these maps all have one thing in common: multiple approaches into the Citadel area and portals in the mid-map region

its just Bite. the rest is fine. Bite needs a longer cooldown in my opinion. 7 seconds way too short, should be like 12 or 15. either that or increase the mana cost by a large amount. one of the two changes should fix it. as it is now Erebus has a huge amount of staying power combined with high burst damage capacity. one of those two things has to be changed. less staying power (higher mana cost for Bite) or less damage (higher cooldown for Bite).

thanks again Brad for demonstrating that my trust in your company has not been misplaced. i'm greatly looking forward to upcoming improvements in what is already a very fun game. i would very much suggest that the the demo version should be limited by randomly choosing which demigod you get to play as. that way it would entice people to play the demo ALOT to get to try all 8 demigods. it would also allow access to the full experience but with enough of a hurdle th

I want a classic fire breathing dragon for the next Demigod. Name: Trogdor the Burninator Type: Assassin Ability 1: Flame Breath - frontal cylinder AoE attack dealing massive fire damage to everything caught in it -rank 1 = 250 dmg, rank 2 = 500 dmg, rank 3 = 750 dmg, rank 4 = 1000 dmg - area would be a cylinder extending out to a range of 15 units out, it should be about 5 units wide - instant cast time, cast with a g

edit update: the 2nd installment of this guide has been written. you can find it here - http://forums.demigodthegame.com/351074 - thanks for reading! i've been seeing a commonly re-occuring theme in various posts that come up in these forums. alot of players (particularly new players who don't have Demigod beta or WC3 DotA experience) find that they get killed alot. people have varying reactions to this, so

spike damage is fine, as are all of her abilities, which is exactly what i said and exactly what you quoted me saying. you didn't actually address the opinion that i did state, which is that because she receives no passive benefit at all in open mode the natural playstyle is to try and stay closed as much as possible. i feel like this kinda limits the viability of a nuking build for Queen and makes her defensive shield+shamblers build much more appealing.

i'll say it two ways, first in the good old fashioned stand-by of internet forums: its fine, lern 2 play. second, the way reasonable adults would say it: the game has a learning curve. the single hardest thing to figure out is which fights you can expect to win and which you cannot. almost everyone who is complaining of dying to UB is making the same mistake. they are over-extending because they underestimate the damage deal
