Wha?...I'm not the only one logging on from work? My office is more accessible and people tend to walk right in and peek at my screen. Luckily, I can make up an excuse like, "It's the Galactic Civ website". Hmm...Maybe I should come up with something better. Being salaried and all, they give me a lot of slack as long as the job gets done. The term "boss" doesn't mean as much here as

@ TLHeart - Maybe the game is so stable for you since you have an older machine and therefore, aren't using any advanced features. Those of us who have "invested" in gaming machines tend to think that we should also be able to play. I've experienced many CTDs with this game. Sometimes, several in one session. The problems don't cease to exist simply because you don't see them. From what I've read, the more modern the machine is, the more likely it'll have problems with this game.<br
I agree that this bug hasn't broken the game. Since we know it's there, we can adjust our strategy to compensate. Overall, it's one of the best games out there. As far as future fixes, there are more important things that could use the focus. The CTDs being highest on my RADAR.
47 here. So far, I've been playing GalCiv2 more than I probably should. Almost every day since my wife bought it for me last month. The newness is starting to wear off, so it'll become less often as time blows by. My wife also likes playing games and we share a computer table where we face each other while playing or surfing. We each have 1 primary and 1 backup computer, just in case one hiccups or something. Can't have downtime when we're playing now. <img src="http://i
Thanks for the strategy tips, Wyndstar. Small or tiny maps are a harder run for me, since I tend to think more long term. Using your all labs strategy until I had all of the yellow techs and the Black Hole Driver, then switching to all factories helped me win my first attempt at a suicidal game. It felt like the tech trading was the key, since I could both sell and trade techs and then sell the newly gained techs while the AI still had money. Economy was a real challenge until the
Good luck on the trial, Wyndstar. Is anyone going to continue Wyndstar's current tournament? Perhaps a new post with the current totals and updates until this one is finished?
I know you're out of pocket for a while, but I figured you might update the tourney when you return. I hope everything goes well. {edit} Two submissions. {/edit}
I was pleasantly surprised at how well the Drengin performed. They're typically among the first to fall as an AI in my games.
Another for the Arceans.
I definately shouldn't be up this late playing a game. Kinda addicting, no? Here's my first.
[taunt mode]Post it, Purge. You know you want to. If you don't, you don't have a hair on your @zz. [/taunt mode] Seriously though. You played the game and it falls within the rules. I'd vote to have it count. I abandoned a game and started a new one when Wyndstar announced the Tourney. Looking forward to seeing the finals. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smi
Hi, Pitsnipe. *waves* I'm not a veteran, but perhaps I can help with this one. You can go to the metaverse and under the "Account" heading, click on "Edit My Characters". Click the "Default" button to the right of the character who's medals you want to show here. [shameless plug] You don't have to be in an empire, but are welcome to join the High Command. [/shameless plug]
Hi Loups. *waves* Yes, you can save a metaverse game and return to it later. I haven't sat through a whole game in one day yet.
Just turned 47 this month. Luckily, my wife is rather understanding about my playing the game. She even got it for me for my birthday.
Hehe. Dark Helmet. He was a case. "PowerPoint Is Evil. Power Corrupts. PowerPoint Corrupts Absolutely." -Edward Tufte I kinda like the alignment bonuses the way they are other than the influence/economy bug for evil. Good gives a little more challenge, but not so much as bumping up the difficulty would. Neutral gives a nice boost to the planets and productivity. I haven't played evil yet, but I'm sure there are some fun aspects of that, too. I'll cross that br
I'm playing with a "good" alignment for now. I intend to play on all of the alignments before it's all over with though. I've played "neutral" as well. There's no compelling reason in my case to prefer one over the other. I've so far been able to steal or trade for some of the evil and neutral techs anyway. I've noticed that some people have "chaotic" in their alignment. I haven't seen that in the game so far. Then again, I'm a newbie at all of this. How would I get that going?<b
This is more of a Microsoft problem than a Stardock one, but MS only seems to say to re-install SP2. Here's a quote from someone who found a solution. You'll find the post about halfway down the page. http://www.ozzu.com/ftopic33122.html I HAVE A SOLUTION!!!! Well it worked for me anyway. You need both the 9.0b and 9.0c full versions. both around 30Mb each. Unzip both to respective temp folders. then copy and paste the following fr
Congrats on making it to #1, Alex and gang! Seems like a nice place to hang my hat. Did anyone bring donuts? {edit} Found them! Thanks! {/edit}
Thanks for the great thread, Wyndstar! You've taught me quite a lot. I tried incorporating some of your strategy into mine in a new game last night, but on a large map at an easier difficulty (crippling). I'm not near your level, but I'll be enough of a threat in time. I'm pretty skittish when it comes to leasing. I've done it a few times, but those were delicate circumstances. A viable economy makes me more comfortable. Then again, I like longer games and am pretty new to
I believe some others have reported similar issues with various ATI cards. Can you post your debug? I'll try to do that tonight if I get a chance to play. It hasn't happened lately, since I'm not awake when AVG updates any more. It might be just related to that. I'm on 12 hour days through the weekends for a little while and my wife isn't feeling well. Kinda cuts into the play time. A question in the meantime. Do I need to save t
I especially like the people who 'see you coming' and wait until the last possible moment to pull out in front of me... those people are 'very special' to me because at that point, they'd better hope I can't get around them because when I do... well, let's just say that during the past three years my wife and I have counted three cars that actually skidded off the road due to some of my fancy 'maneuvers' like cutting in front of them and pulling the e-brake... that's
@ Zman2100: The download for your video chipset is here . When you click the link, it'll immediately request a download for your Intel(R) 82865G Graphics controller running on WXP Pro. (Note to others - this is ONLY for that chipset
I have a similar issue to your #2. Playing DL, the game screen sometimes goes black and appears to lock up. Moving the mouse around doesn't help. Task Manager shows the game to be running, but it's all black. I've noticed this every time AVG Anti-Virus updates, but it also seems to happen at other times. (Perhaps when another program takes the video's attention? Just a wild guess.) I found that clicking the left mouse button will sometimes bring the game back, but in my first game
I was curious about this, so I created a Metaverse account and a character. I'm on a computer that still has IE6 on it and there were no problems. (Guess I'll start playing Metaverse games tonight after work). Could the problem be in IE7 or the newer FF? Just a wild stab. [edit] Hmm...My Metaverse profile says I created the account on April 6, which is when I got the game. I chose my name today and made the character, but the account seems to be tied to my Stardock account.
in the state of texas it is against the law to commit a crime against another person without giveing them a 24 hour notice either verbal or written Hehe. Does that law make it legal to commit a crime as long as you give notice? Thanks for the chuckle. Did you find that one here ?
