Hi all! Just got back from a too short vacation. They're always too short, aren't they? Good luck with the job, Quixen! Best of luck to neilo with your bid for the council! <a href

It's good to see that we have some candidates going for this opening. I agree with the idea that a Metaverse Council Member should have at least some experience in the Metaverse. I hope that rule doesn't change. Other important attributes, IMO, would be independent thought, openness, integrity and creativity. At this point, we seem to have two candidates. neilo Lynx xxx Both are viable and worthy candidates and I can't think of anyone better to fi
Thanks for confirming that, suikos and Evil Stormbringer. I've noticed that AIs typically leave ships I gift to them right where they are. Sometimes, even if they are at war with another AI. I wasn't sure why until now. I've been moving them out of my way before gifting them lately, but now I know to just send them to the recipient first.
@ Mystikmind - Sounds like a good game you had there. Breaking out from such a disadvantage had to feel good. Just an opinion, but I don't see using Military SBs as cheesy. No more so than using Influence or Economy SBs. I've seen the AIs using Military SBs to attack. No reason they shouldn't be used for defense. Evil needs a strong military or it won't survive very long. Neutral doesn't need it as much, but on suicidal, I'll take whatever legal advantage I can find. In
Testing the Metaverse resubmit thingy. I read it in the forums somewhere. Seems to work OK. This is the same game as the one above with one more year added. 9.5K in one year. Not bad. All packed up and ready to go. See ya week after next. <A href="http://altmeta.kryofx.com/empire/
I personally feel that the requirment of extra terrestrials being much more socially advanced then us is quite questionable. If the last two hundred years have shown us anything, technological achievment does not equate to equal achievments in social progress. If anyhting, I would say the average person today is less generous and caring. My personal opinion on the matter is that IF we were to ever contact another civilization out there in the black, that we w
So, on most planets, would you recommend ignoring morale, influence, and farming bonuses? In a word, yes. In certain cases, I'd buy influence on a bonus tile for a temporary boost if I needed it. There's always the option to build back over it. Another question I remembered: is it a good idea to trade techs early on? For example, I tried making my own race, which started with HyperDrive, New Propulsion Tech
As far as extra-terrestrials go, I doubt they'd contact us if they could avoid it. If they could understand our various languages, they'd study us and find out how barbaric humans are. Even by our own standards, we pretty much suck. We can't even stand by our own treaties if they no longer suit us. That goes for any nation. I'd be willing to bet that any race that could cooperate enough to achieve intergalactic travel would respond to us in the same way we'd respond to a snake fille
I agree with Mystikmind for the most part. I wouldn't say "never" to anything, but it's pretty close to never as far as building galactic structures on good planets, unless there's a compelling reason for doing so. Mystikmind's focus on economy sounds right on target too. The economy will make you or break you. I play suicidal on small galaxies right now, because I don't have time for larger ones ATM. I might go with a larger one after my vacation. Maybe. For the
I've noticed those settings, but with all of the other facets of the game, I've ignored them so far. Have you found a use for them?
and there are alot of young adults here, although I am a bit surprised that there are some ppl in thier 40s playing "guess some ppl are young at heart or something" Being 42, I'd have to go with "or something"... And Embird... Thankyou . You're 42? Why, you don't look a day over 41 years, 4 months and 30 day
Congrats on breaking 100k, neilo! I don't think I'm going to try for that any time soon. Takes too much patience. My last submission for this tourney. Wasn't sure I'd get it in before leaving, but just made it.
If I am to be banned for speaking my mind, so be it. I shall not compromise my stance or integrity, or hell, my honesty, to try and be something I am not, especially online where anyone can pretend to be someone else. I can't see a ban as a valid threat in your case. There's simply no cause. I hope I'm not misreading the admins here. If I am, being banned from such a forum wouldn't be such a big deal. Furthermore, I
You shoulda probably stopped eating them Can't imagine the pollution the accumulated inside their little slimy bodies! Mmmmm! Hydrocarbons. tofu! Eww
First things first - Happy Birthday! I wish it was going better for you. I'm really glad that you posted the AAR. Your all labs strat with the flip in midgame was the one I used to win my first game on suicidal. That strat was actually chosen for me when I saw the 100% research tile on my homeworld. Could have gone either way. My second suicidal win was with the all factories strat. Some modifications to that, but we all have our ways of playing. I don't think e
I think I missed a comma in my post above. I meant to say one of, if not the most, ... Hope you didn't take it the other way.
Evil Stormbringer - Please don't take it that I was in any way chastising you. Your responses were justified and understandable. It's just that sometimes, even though we're right, we don't need to prove it. Sometimes, right or wrong, things can get so out of hand as to draw attention from the ban trigger fingers. I'd hate to see something like that happen to you. I'd count you as one of, if not the most honest and entertaining posters on here.
Agreed.
@ GeneralEtrius - That's a bit over the top, don't you think? Please try to tone it down. Wheeloffire was banned for "being a jackass" (BoogieBac's words). Are you exempt from the same treatment? @ Evil Stormbringer - Let it roll off. The child is out of control and trying to get to you. They'll do that when they throw their tantrums. Ignoring him will do more good than responding in this case.
Agreed. Well, everything except for that "back to work" statement. Do I have to?
Personally, I don't think I'd have a problem eating artificially grown meat. It'd be nicer if they could make a nice low fat ribeye that's cheaper than regular beef. The thought kinda reminds me of when my unit was deployed to southern Italy and the food we took for granted was scarce. The Italian Air Force served us a pasta and meat sauce that had ground snails (that they collected from the side of the road in the morning) instead of beef. Everyone was OK with it when we didn't kn
yo, yo, no way! That rap is so ghey. Go play in interstate traffic, tardboy. I'm sorry, but that's not 'adult satire', that's just being an jackass. Perhaps. But can you honestly say that you'd take offense at that statement? The difference is the maturity of the target. It's hard to think of children being immature when you see them immitating adults or acting tough. They are still c
I'd normally agree with you, Evil. We've become a bit too PC in general and can't seem to take a little light ribbing. In this particular case, I see it different though. Look at the profiles. GeneralEtrius is only 13. Wheeloffire is 31. A 13 year old can't be expected to understand adult satire, especially when it's directed at him. From what I see, Wheeloffire was warned twice, but ignored the warnings. Considering that prior bans didn't seem to help, I'd probably ban
I voted in the other thread, but it's probably lost in all of the comments. For the record, I'd put most bugs at a higher priority than new features. The saved game/turn0 thing isn't important to me other than it's a known bug. That one can wait until GalCiv99 for all I care. Can this forum handle polls? If so, the moderators could sticky one and be done with it.
One for the Yor. Probably my last game for a while. Going on vacation at the end of next week.
